Sauternes…I’m not sure I would like it, but you got to give it a shot right? Sweet typically isn’t my thing but the pallet changes so maybe I will have to seek some out this weekend.

QOTD: I have had one, thanks to your suggestion some months ago and it was very nice. BTW-they seem to last a long time after opening as well, so a 1/2 bottle is good and you can sip on it for days:)

Hope you’re feeling better today bro. I was going to buy the anniversary pack but you’re sold out. :-(

QOTD: I love Sauternes. They’ve rocked my world a few times. Need to buy some more.

Is sauterne like gewurtzaminer or muscat? I don’t care for the super syrup like wines. Perhaps I’ll try one at a restaurant.

Never had a Sauternes. Honestly, I’ve never had a dessert wine that I’ve absolutely loved. My pal hasn’t come around to them yet. I do taste dessert wines on a regular basis just to see if I find one that I might like.

Sauternes are great, but obviously quite pricey. I but them in the half bottle size.

GV, don’t hang your hat on yesterday. You keep bringing it, bring it sad, bring it mad, bring it in your thunder-awesomeness…we’ll still be watching GV cause we love wine and we love what you teach us.

QOTD Never had the noble rot from France, but I’m going shopping after work GV, and I’m buying one cause you told me to (well you didn’t tell me, but you sure did encourage me to try it!) See Gary…it’s not all bad. Chin up, Super-man.

I take partial blame for the low-key show. I was one of the ones who prodded Gary to do a show…on Twitter and Facebook.

QOTD: Haven’t had one. I do like dessert wines like Muscats and ice wines, though.

    Dear Gary,
I stumbled across your show about two months ago and have been a avid follower since. I have told my friends about the show. As I started to watch the show today you appeared somewhat less enthuseastic, mentioning that you were dissappointed you did not get the 1,000 comments you had hoped to get. I may fall in the catagory you identify as lurkers, although I don’t feel like a lurker. There may be many reasons one does not respond but does apperciate and enjoy your show. 1) techniquely challenged 2)age, I am probley near your father’s age, but I don’t look as good 3) it appears to be a young persons format and I enjoy the youth. I do enjoy your show, although I live in Oklahoma and many of the wine’s you review are not available in Oklahoma. Norman

Dude, you ARE being silly with this down mood thing. You know better than to blame the customers.

QOTD: Completely, absolutely, totally. Perhaps the greatest wine I’ve ever had was a d’Yquem.

I love sauternes. Have some Reiussec and La Tour Blanche stored away. Although, love the Michele Chiarlo Moscato d’Asti Nivole coming in around 12 bones for half bottle. Perfect size to share for small group.

Hello Gary, never had a Sautern. I would love to see one with free shipping, and not too expensive. We’re having a tasting in my house with the anniversary pack on the weekend after you taste them…

    Cheers

I’ve been a lurker for too long, after hundreds of great shows that have turned me on to all kinds of wine I never knew about – this is my first post!
I love Sauternes – just gave one for a gift a few days ago! From show # 406 – going to buy a Cab Franc fom the Loire Valley today, going to look at Bandols, and have been looking for St. Albain (sp?).
    Thanks for all you do!

Love Sauterne!!! You nailed two important factors that I Educate My Customers about G.V. 1- Foie Gras and Sauterne…a MUST Pairing…the Ultimate Pairing with Foie Gras 2- Blue Veined Cheeses such as The Roquefort, perfect pairing with Sauterne or Late Harvest Wines etc. BTW, you have to have Justin get you some CABRALES from Spain…stronger than Kryptonite and the Most Powerful Blue Veined Cheese on The Planet!!! That is also Perfect With Sautherne.

One Pet Peeve of mine as a Sommelier…is what I call the “D” Word that I never use when speaking about Ice Wines, Late Harvest, Fortified Wines, or Botrytised Wines like Sauterne “D”essert Wines. I prefer the term that was on your Chalkboard…. “Sweet Wines” or “Nectars”. As you can see…you reccommended Foies Gras as the Ultimate Pairing with Sauterne… Not alot of people have Foies Gras as a Dessert… Point Made?? Love Ya GV.. don’t feel bad about the E-Mails… You know those LURKERS!!!

Never had a Sauternes yet, I’m well overdue to try one. I love other dessert wines, late harvest vignoles, rieslings, etc… Great stuff. Good show.

Great show. Something that I never get to do at home.

Have to say that to everyone who doesn’t like the super-energetic opening: down-in-the-mouth Gary is worse. Leave a comment. When the show started today I thought that I had mistakenly happened upon one of the first (serious, subdued) episodes from two years ago.

    Go Gary, Go!

So I guess we need to play the part of GV today. There are too many things to be happy about to be bummed. Like the fact that your “job” allows you to try $100 bottles of wine and $20 a pound cheese and talk about it! :)

Keep up the awesome work, looking forward to many years to come, cya at Bern’s. And oh yeah Go Dolphins…..

    Wow you’re spoiled. :P

QotD: Yes I enjoy Sauternes but haven’t had more than a glass or two.

GV i am having trouble logging into the blog section so I could not ask my question there. What time is the appearance at Bern’s in Tampa?

GV, your problem is you don’t fully understand the world of statistics! Only half the world is awake every 24 hours and other half is at work so the data must be normalized. 755*((0.5*0.5)+(1)+(0.5*0.5))= 1132.5 YESSS!! Congratulations on your second anniversary and thanks for the 2ANNI special.

very interesting show. it’s helpful to see different vintages of the same wine. and i am all about the pairing episodes – i’d love to see more of those.

qotd: i might have had a sauternes before but i’m not 100% certain. anyways, the white dessert wines i have had have always been delicious…in smallish doses.

can’t wait for the 4 pack!!!

GV I too am bummed more comments weren’t left. I know there out there cause I’ve told at least 500 people. I know you will be back in full swing as you are to passionate to be down for long. Hang tough GV you make a lot of people smile.
The dessert wines I have had come in much smaller bottles, very nice though.
