Love Sauternes, and we already have a tasting group. It was my turn last and I did provide a 1985 Lynch Bages after which we had Sauternes and Foie Gras. It was incredible, although, some were not so sure about the liver! I believe it was one of the best pairings I have come across. I also through in some blue cheese. Aint life grand!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry , Gary, our wine club is the third Friday (not Thursday) of the month. We get 50 people each month to blind taste 6 wines. Keep up the good work.

Ditto Montana Sage, plus you know how many people watch you without the comments. Do it for the love of the game!

I love Sauternes. I recently had a bottle of the 2005 Chat Filhot. It was pretty amazing for $21. To any posters that are on the fence about buying a dessert wine, or a Sauternes specifically, you should really try some of the cheaper, but still highly rated, dessert wines like the ‘05 Filhot. It’s a GREAT entry into Sauternes. Try a Cockburn Ruby Port for a dessert red. At $10-12 it’s a solid entry into Port.

    The inveterate lurker here:

Placing great weight on the number of comments for a particular episode is about like relying exclusively on ratings for a wine. I never miss an episode, haven’t since I first heard about WLTV over six months ago, and I’ve gone back to check out most of the back episodes. But I don’t comment unless I’ve something to say. When it comes to forums and comments, the level of “background noise” on the internet in general annoys me, so I try not to add to it.

QOTD: I adore Sauternes. Had a Château d’Yquem (wish I could remember the vintage) a few years ago that altogether changed the way I look at wine. It was stunning. Also love late harvest Riesling, Tokay etc. So I have a sweet tooth.

    Back to lurking…

QOTD: I’ve Sauternes for Christmas dinner since 1979, before drinking age……

Shake it off, Giggles. Consider this your e- pat on the back. If you’re like this again on laid-back Friday, it will be an e- kick in the ass.

You know we love and can’t live without you.

QOTD: don’t have many opportunities for Sauternes, but enjoy the lesser-priced stickies from Germany and Australia.

Now, I would like to try a Sauterne.

QOTD: I do like sauternes, but my girlfriend adores them. I think she is seduced by the sugar. I think I prefer a good icewine over a Sauternes if I’m going to have a desert wine.

Hey Vayniacs! Consider going back to yesterday’s show and leaving a comment. They’re within about 200 of the 1000 Gary wanted – it’s not too late, and I hate to see him so bummed!

Gary, I love dessert wines. Maybe it’s from my time living in Australia and drinking their “stickies”. I’ve had sauternes with foie gras and it is an amazing combination of flavors. I’d probably drink more sauternes if it wasn’t so damn pricey. So I look around for other botritis alternatives.

    WineFellow

No sniffy sniff? Give it a smell? WTF?

I love Sauterne, but I hate spelling it. Excellent with the foie, especially if the foie has a little fruity compote action going on.

I feel bad about not commenting on the #2 show, just too busy to hit the site yesterday.

Sorry to see you down today, Gary.
I love sauternes, but I don’t get a chance to drink it that often.
I’d like to try it with some of that great cheese you were having.
    Cheers.

Yeah…that ending was pretty depressing, lol. Don’t be bummed Gary! Give it a little more time, I’m sure we’ll reach 1000! If not, I’ll go back and post enough comments to get us there :D .

Other than the handful of depressing moments, I actually enjoyed the show. Lots of good info, focused, and more cheese!

QOTD: Sauterne is a little rich for my blood (in other words, no, I’ve never had it). One day!

Never had one before. Missed the energy today, don’t let the lurkers get you down Gary! Next time I’ll just leave an extra 300 comments!

qotd: Can’t say as I have. They cost too much.

Aren’t bad moods satisfying, though? I thought it funny that you paired your Sauternes with the “blues”. Yum! Think I’ll run out and pick up a creamy roquefort.

I have never tried Sauterne. I’ve always associated Bordeaux, Burgundy, etc with France. Never gave the dessert wines a thought! Ports, late harvest zin, viogner, etc from Cali is usually how “I’ve rolled.” This could be an interesting experience, but pricey. Thanks Gary!

    JerseyGirl turned CNY vayniac

QOTD: Yeah, I’ve had a few Sauternes and I thought they were nice. In terms of dessert wines I tend to prefer late harvest vidals and rieslings, or icewine, but sauternes can be very good.

Sorry you’re so bummed gary! Maybe tomorrow will be better!

Dad bought Sauternes long ago. The kids grew up enjoying these jewels. Looking through the cellar the other day I came across a ‘71 D’yquem. The last of a case!
PS: Mott, found a ‘64 Tokai 5 Putonos.

  23. February 22, 2008

    Sassodoro

I have a fair amount of Sauternes in my basement, but somehow Mrs. Sassodoro and I seldom end up drinking it. At the end of a meal we have generally had enough wine and aren’t looking for more. We’ll just have to find other occasions.

Too bad about not making 1000 comments. Still, the site is showing 780 at the moment and that is not to be sneezed at.

It will be ok Gary…I do like sauterne with foie
