I always thought people saying “Top 10″ meant it was one of the top 10 episdoes ever. Little did I know….

Surprised there is a show today. Although I look forward to every show it may have been better to save this content for a day when Gary wasn’t clearly showing signs of running out of gas. Plus, he had a built in excuse to skip a day since there weren’t 1000 yesterday! Hopefully this is just for one day because the content has been amazing since 400. I’d definitely be in favor of less shows if it helps keep the spirit of the show at its peak. Gary…take another vacation (even if its only from the show) and recharge.

QOTD: Ok, so I won’t be trying those any time soon! But, will definitely keep it on my list for the future. When I’m rollin’ in it!

Dang. Gary we need the thunder!

    QOTD: Definately, especially with cheeses.

Vertical is a great idea for a show. I rarely drink Sauternes anymore but I remember it and can appreciate it so it will be fun to follow along.

  21. February 21, 2008

    Fangorn81

Oh BTW Thanks for giving us one today! I was refreshing my computer like every 2 min here like a total loser!

  22. February 21, 2008

    Brandon T.

I’ve had a ton of sauternes, and by far the best was 1983 Chateau Rieussec… so freaking delicious… I finally understood what it means to drink a wine at its ‘peak’… and it also made me want to see an episode of WLTV where gary pours big magnums of sweet sauternes all over the pretty body of a lovely girl and she slathers petit verdot grapes on garys buttocks while they scream and recite poems laughing with excellent sexuality?

  23. February 21, 2008

    Gary-LOVE these cheeses!!!!!!!!!! :)

    Great Show!!!

Ive been waiting for a Sauternes show.

QOTD: Ive never tried a Sauternes before, so I dont know if I like it or not. I have a bottle of 1995 D’Yquem, but I dont want to open it for a long time. I may have to look into a 1/2 btl of a less expensive sauternes for immediate consumption.

  25. February 21, 2008

    */^_^\*

qotd: tried a cheap one. it was okay i guess. i’m even more of a neophyte with desert wines than i am with sparkling wines. something i’ll have to work on.

  26. February 21, 2008

    Susan

Gary- PLEASE Bring back the sniffy-sniff & the energy in the intro!!!! :)

  27. February 21, 2008

    Deano

Gaey sorry you didnt make it to the 1000 comments. I didnt know you can ship out the cheeses. I will have to take a look. I bought the ann pack so i am stoked about that.

    QOTD:
-No i havent. I am not that much of a fan of desert wines.

  28. February 21, 2008

    Fangorn81

So if I sit here and personally leave 1000 comments, does that count? Or would that be in the realm of totally psycho, thus negating hte awesomeness of getting to 1000!

Let’s get some CKC action back here! I’m already spending more money than I should, but I just can’t break into the price range of these wines!

Anybody has a spare bottle of Sauterne they are trying to throw out let me know!

  29. February 21, 2008

    Nick

I’ve only had it once, but I liked it. I’m sure I’ll have many more in the years to come. Oh yeah, I LOVE CHEESE!!!

    I ALREADY MISS THE ENERGY!!!!

  32. February 21, 2008

    DaveyDonut

We need to get you upset more often! ;-) I loved the show, AND your energy level today… your introduction didn’t hurt my ears, and I really enjoyed the content! Really liked the discussion about the producer here. Spectator scored the 2005 95-100… I may have to hunt some of that down. Its prices don’t seem to have risen too much since the original pre-release price.

I know I know, now you’re going to go really bonkers tomorrow just to make up for it!

QOTD: I do like Sauternes but haven’t had too much of it… but probably my favorite pairing of all time is Sauternes with blue cheese. It is SOOOOO damn good! Do you guys have this Rossini cheese from Piedmonte? It’s a Gorgonzola aged in red wine and wraped in grape leafs. It’s so funky, but has these amazing caramely notes! It is SO DAMN GOOD with Sauternes (or by itself). Go get it!

Nice ep. Well Gary, if it will make you feel any better, I am willing to go back to yesterday’s ep and post another 500+ comments to raise the number to 1000 :)

Ok for real though, I am not gonna leave 1000….I actually am headed out to my local wine store.

    Instant gratification!

What do you mean 2001 was only an okay vintage?
2001 was amazing vintage in sauternes!

    Just keeping facts inline.

    Gary,
You have to understand that we obsessive/compulsives just set ourselves up for failure because of our passion for a subject. I have a group called the Wino’s and even though they tell me that they read all my emails, they never respond. So, I know how you feel (all give and no return), but you know how many people you touch each and every day so keep the chin up.

  40. February 21, 2008

    hugh

G-man….so depressed today!! :( …..at least you’re not stuck in Salt Lake (cancelled flight into JFK) …..i love the stickies, in fact, one of the first wines i ever had (circa 1987) was a ‘59 D’Yquem (I think I told u that when u brought the ‘03 to the offline)….i’m desperately trying to keep my hands off my few 1990’s

i think u should have had the sauternes on the b’day show….

  41. February 21, 2008

    Dr T from N. Carolina

Thanks for the episode, even if you were feeling a bit down. I enjoy Sauternes, although I prefer 5 or 6 puttonyos Tokaj

    Cool show!
QOTD: One @ the Chicago WLTV party.

  44. February 21, 2008

    John Watson

Never had Sauterne before. That’s a little spendy for my experimental palate. Can you recommend one that’s affordable for us with a limited budget?

  45. February 21, 2008

    MattUD

Interesting show despite the somber mood. QOTD: I am yet to taste Sauterne.

  46. February 21, 2008

    Chris

Loved all the talk today about the climate issues facing each particular vintage and the analysis of how that affects the wine/winemaking. Also really loved the vertical tasting, and the cheese inclusion. I thought this was a great episode even with subdued Gary.

QOTD: Haven’t yet tried a Sauternes, but I will now.

  47. February 21, 2008

    BobbyTiger

To: Gary VAAAAAAAAAAY-NEEEER-CHUUUK! A number is but a number. Having said that, and while there is no way I’m splitting with that kind of money for a “sippy-sip” of the C de F, I did enjoy the ep. Have had an occasional sauterne, which I generally like, and am currently drinking a Santa Julia Tardio, (2006-Mendoza, Torrontes dessert wine. Quite nice. I’m feeling a little blue my man, so please step it up.

Your fans are psych…ing you !

We whom have been here……….or uhhh have returned here from two years ago
love you…. so don’t sweat the small stuff; it’s all small stuff, except health!

    Be happy… don’t worry……..

Lurkers are a tough bunch. They’re those guys and girls at the 7th grade dance who are glued to the wall and watch all the other kids dance and have fun. Screw them…I’m in for the good times.

QOTD: Not a big dessert wine drinker. When I do have a sauternes, I go for the 1/2 bottles.

(Thanks again for everything and another congrats on 2 awesome years.)

  50. February 21, 2008

    Aldownunder

Sauternes is great but yes it’s pricey. Gary why not do a show on some stickies from other parts of the world? (2002 D’Arenberg Noble One from Aus is great).

Everyone should check out the roquefort/sticky wine combo, it’s the whole salt/sugar at the same time thing. Like salted and sweet popcorn in the same tub, seriously try it, it’s bizarrely delicious!!!!!

  51. February 21, 2008

    bigmay

Cheer up Gary! We love you like family.

QOTD: Thanks for bringing us a vertical of Sauternes. I have fairly limited experience with them but have really enjoyed the few I’ve tried. Most recently I had one (an ‘01 but I don’t recall the producer) paired with foie gras in some kind of Moroccan-inspired preparation. Excellent! My favorite Sauternes thus far was a ‘90 Suduiraut.

  52. February 21, 2008

So many of my friends hate sweet wines :-(

Just love them with a nice piece of cheese, some fruit, or on their own.

Great show. Will get the 1990.

  53. February 21, 2008

    cameron w

Sauternes – Yes I do. I haven’t had a ton over the years though.

  54. February 21, 2008

    Dr. J

QOTD: I actually have had a Chateau D’Yquem Sautern about 2 years ago at a Super Bowl Party. I don’t know the exact vintage but it was around 10 years old. It was amazing then, and I’m certain I’d appreciated it even more now that my pal is more developed.

Gary, Regarding your deflated mood, although I am not happy that you are sad, I’m OK with you having some down days. No one is happy all the time. I accept you where you are today, and don’t need you to be anything other than yourself.

    ~A Girl Named Judy ;-)

    Hey Mr GV

Greetings from Denmark, and from a long time viewer but a rare commenter´.

Just wanted to say – I don’t see the number of comments being that important.

I personally only make a comment, when I feel I have something real to say – and I guess the inspiration just wasn’t there yesterday – sorry :-)

And YES I love sauterne – and I was actually a bit taken a back over how “quietly” you went over these usually amazing products – especially the 1990.

But still! – a thousands thanks for doing today’s show (and yesterdays, and the one on the day before that, and the one before that and the one before that, and …)

    :-)

  56. February 21, 2008

    CindyW

QOTD: I like sauterne very much, although it’s just an occasional treat for us.

The first time we ever tried a sauterne was last Spring after watching an episode of WLTV. I can’t remember why, but you wanted something to fix your palate (was it after the pink zinfandel tasting?). My husband and I were both getting over a nasty influenza that had impaired our tasting and sniffy-sniffing ability. We hadn’t had wine in a couple of weeks, and we decided to get some sauterne to fix our palates. It was a fabulous wake-up for our tastebuds. :)

  57. February 21, 2008

    Syrahhhhhhhhh

Dude? Who are you and what did you do with our hero?

QOTD: I have a sauterne in my cellar but I’ve never had one. It’s a 2004 Les Caves Fleury Chais de Meribel. Anyone know if it’s any good?

  58. February 21, 2008

    Harley Stan

Gary, interesting show today comparing three wines different vintages.
QOTD- I haven’t tried a Sauterne yet, but I plan to. Have a great day!

  59. February 21, 2008

    Dale Cruse

SIR Gary Vaynerchuk should have done this show. Sauternes would be right up his alley and would have allowed Gary to stay true to his threat of not doing the show because yesterday didn’t get the requisite 1,000 comments.

  60. February 21, 2008

    Daniel

First time viewer great show, your style makes an enjoyable passion of mine even more enjoyable. Cheers

  61. February 21, 2008

    Michael Mohammadi

    QOTD: I Love Sauternes!

  62. February 21, 2008

    Vette Tony

QOTD: Never tried Sauternes mostly because of the cost.

  63. February 21, 2008

    AVP

QOTD: Yes I do. You’re gettin’ chlorine, but one very distinct flavor I get often from sauternes is a super glue component or sometimes paint thinner. Like dried apricot slices glued together and poured honey all over them.. Nice. Tomorrow I’m having various french dessert wines at a tasting with a french wine importer. Yam-yam.

  64. February 21, 2008

    PBL

Bring back the real Gary – IMPOSTER.

  65. February 21, 2008

    The Fanjestic

Qotd – can’t really say for sure because I’ve only had a couple, but I was guess that I probably am – or will be once I start drinking more desert wines.

Thanks for doing a show anyway GV – makes my day a little bit brighter!

  66. February 21, 2008

    JC

Thanks for the show Gary. I watched yesterday’s show when I got in from work at 2AM last night and I left a comment. QOTD: Sauternes kicks!

  67. February 21, 2008

    Neil

QOTD: Yes I have enjoyed Sauternes many times – usually with Foie Gras as an appetizer. I have had 2001 Chateau Rieussec which was delicious and the 2003 wasn’t that bad either. Never had the D’Yquem. I actually bought a few bottles of Sauternes from WL (can’t remember the name) that weren’t of the same caliber, but for the price were okay(not great). I have a couple of 2005’s sitting around. Speaking of which, you have spoken at length of Bordeaux but how was 2005 Sauternes rated?

I was going to write something about “cheer up about yesterday’s comments,” but realized that it must have been a let down to do the Spread the Thunder contest drawing, pick a lucky Vayniac, give away 5 Apple TV’s and 25 schwag packs. It probably doesn’t occur to lurkers that their comments are payback for the WLTV show. Anyway, have some more cheese, cheer up and turn the page for tomorrow.

  68. February 21, 2008

    John

Regarding Sauternes, I love the stuff. The only thing that prevents me from drinking it all the time is the price. I had a ‘96 Guiraud a couple of days ago that I thought was really nice, but what the heck do I know?

How about some Banyuls sometime soon?

  69. February 21, 2008

    Shah

I liked the show fits the mood outside.

  70. February 21, 2008

    Ryan

yes i love Sauternes i had a 1982 Cheateau De Rayne Vigneau Cru was the BEST…

  71. February 21, 2008

    Christine

QOTD: I’ve had at least one Sauternes that I’ve enjoyed. I would like to try some more in the near future.

  72. February 21, 2008

    SS Chris

I had never had a dessert wine until WLTV…..now I absolutely LOOOOOOVE them (what’s not to love). So thanks for that.

….and stop being such a Tewkesbery girly-man…..you get more love than anyone on the friggin’ planet. That upscale-living softened the Belarus boy!!

  73. February 21, 2008

    Sam B

aldownunder: Noble One is produced by De Bortoli not D’Arenberg (although Darrys do a noble wine also, just not the Noble One).

Agreed though it is a very good wine. Especially when looking at the price in comparison to good Sauternes.

  74. February 21, 2008

    GrapeStuff

Good ep, GV. I adore Sauternes…looking forward to the ‘05 Guiraud i got on futures!! That was a great ep to watch…thanks for popping those bottles for the show. Sauternes and foie gras is one of my absolute favorites – I know its a cliche pairing, but it really is perfect.

We have a few sauternes from the mid 1970s that my girlfriend’s dade gave us – and, in my opinion, they are just starting to hit their stride.

QOTD: Love it! And darn lurkers…..POST COMMENTS!!

  75. February 21, 2008

    kadair

    Hey Gary,

Sorry to see you down. For all the work that you do as well as the passion you bring day in and day out it is sad to see the lack of comments. I myself feel bad that I have not left as many comments as I should have. I also wanted you to know that is was a joy to meet you at the Vayniac Cab kickoff party this December. Keep up the great work. You are truly inspirational!!!

  76. February 21, 2008

    Jack

GV: I watch you to get cheered up and excited about wine. I feel like getting a two buck chuck and getting drunk after watching today. Where has my wine muse gone? Get the thunder back!

  77. February 21, 2008

    SS Chris

oh forgot the QOTD: Yes I’ve had a Sauterne….thanks to an great small offline this summer at BLT Steakhouse(Tampa, Tampa’s POPS, Paul, Brooklyn Paul, KAHUNA, E-Rock, Barbotus, Julius and TheDumbPhase…Ian had to cancel at the last minute…you were invited but blew us off). And it was the 1990 d’Yquem per the ridonkulous generosity of the Dumb Phase….can you imagine, the first Sauterne I ever had was that?

HUGE PROPS to James (TDP), but also to you (see….more GV love)…as the offline wouldn’t have happened without WLTV. :)

  78. February 21, 2008

    brorjace

Sheesh sorry your bummed gary. 600+ is a lot of comments though! And thank you for doing the different vintages, very interesting.

QOTD: Yes, but very inexpensive ones, and never too old, unfortunately.

  79. February 21, 2008

    damon aka unknownwine

Sadsack Gary. Sorry we didn’t come through for you yesterday, even though I did my part. I’m with you on the Sauternes and Fois Gras, especially when it has some kind of fruity sauce.

    any killer 05 sauternes???????

  80. February 21, 2008

    CuriousInStLouis

Sauternes make me moan out loud!!

Your comments about the petrol scent is dead on. For me it comes across as burnt rubber and is not very prominent.

  81. February 21, 2008

    Christohper J

QOTD: Never had one. I will add it to the list!!! I am going wine shopping this weekend.

  82. February 21, 2008

    mbannon

Green apples with bleu cheese and Sauternes is one of the finest moments in life…MMmmmmm!!

Sorry you didn’t get your thousand comments yesterday Gary. I haven’t even finished watching the episode yet, though, so you should be able to count on at least one more once I get through it. One comment at a time, eh?

  83. February 21, 2008

    spyder47

QOTD: I’ve had dessert wines, but never had a Sauternes. Maybe someday.

Not sure why you are in such a down mood. You have a ton of friends … loving family … successful + fun job … more than your share of fame … etc. Time to COWBOY UP!

  84. February 21, 2008

    Andy

Hey G thanks for sharing the world of Sauternes with the Nation…..
QOTD— A Sauternes is a great dessert wine, but we always forget about it…
usually have a late harvest Reisling or a great Muscat..

  85. February 21, 2008

    Antony

Sauternes..? I used to work for a guy who loved the stuff so I’ve had one or two – mainly on his expense account. I also had a truly great desert wine in Catalunya, produced locally, but cannot remember what it was. Wrote it down somewhere but…

Must also give a big shout out to Marcelo Irurita who is the coolest wine producer I have ever met (though that isn’t really saying that much). His family, in Uruguay, produce a great desert wine: Botrytis Gewurztraminer Irurtia. Support the good guys and check it!

Gary, sorry you’re so bummed today. I e-mailed a few of my wino friends about your website. You’re doing a great job: keep it up!

  87. February 21, 2008

    Dave

I’d take a sauternes over a port most of the time.

  88. February 21, 2008

    yathink2

QOTD: I like sweets occasionally but, I am afraid to drink a sweet wine since that is not my preference. I would like to taste one, but a whole bottle… Nope, cant do it

  89. February 21, 2008

    MattJ

Qotd: Like Sauternes quite a bit. I haven’t had much, but I bought 2 half bottles of a 2003 vintage 2 years or so ago. Brought some home to mom and dad and had it with some blue cheese from a local producer in MN. Was a great time.

  90. February 21, 2008

    ninefingers

I have tasted some fine sauternes Ch, dYquem 1959, Chateau Guirand Sauternes 1st Grand Cru 1962, ,Ch. d’Arche Sauternes 1967, and Ch. Luduirant Sauternes 1962.

But I think (I also like rieslings) the German Beerenauslese and TrockenBeerenauslese better than sauternes, has much better feel in the mouth and the nose is more flowered-fruity.

I have a 1976 Schneider’sche Wehlener Sonnenuhr Beerenauslese,, 1976 Schneider’sche Wehlener Mhnzlay TrockenBeerenauslese and a 1964 bottle Schloss Vollrads TrockenBeerenauslese (given to me by my mother a Christmas long ago) sitting in the cellar awaiting their drinking!!

Have had some great dessert wines-just last weekend shared a beautiful amber colored 2002 Sine Qua Non “Noble Man” -pricey at $80 per half bottle. The bottle is cool, which I am a sucker for. Also can’t wait to open up a 2005 Jorge Ordonez Especcial Malaga. Never had the pleasure of a Chateau D’Yquem, but loved the Chateau Rieussec that I tried a while back-can’t remember the vintage. Eiswein, Trockenbeerenauslese, love them all. Wine drinkers who say they won’t drink white don’t know what they’re missing.

Thanks for the show today GV, I adore Sauternes. I’d be pissed about the no 1000 comments as well, they did it for your ‘real’ b-day, so why not WLTV’s 2nd b-day? Hmmm. Everyone must like you more than the show ;)
QOTD: Again, love Sauternes, I’ve had that 2001 Fargues and it rocked my world – paired it with Creme Brulee, unreal pairing, to die for.

First I have to admit I have been a lurker, but not anymore. I watched the show yesterday and I thought it was great. I’ve been meaning to tell my friend to watch and I was really going to last night but I didn’t because I don’t know if he would really care for it. I’m such an idiot. How could he not like it? So I’m going to go tell him to watch right now and I’m going to make sure he watches yesterdays episode first and then maybe a couple of the classics. I’m sure he won’t be able to stop watching and he’ll start looking forward to it everyday just like everyone else who watches.

QOTD: I’ve never tried Sauternes and I may not anytime soon even though I would like to. I’m somewhat new to wine and there are so many things to try that I might not get around to anything that expensive for awhile but I look forward to the day when I can do that.

  94. February 21, 2008

    Sharon

QOTD: I’ve only ever tried Sauternes once – just a taste. I can’t remember the producer. But it was great. All hail noble rot!
Wow, I thought no show today. Thanks for having a show :-) . I just checked and 674 comments from yesterday’s show. Well, it was on kind of later than usual. Maybe you need another show w/your Dad for another ratings blockbuster :-) .

Don’t blame you G-Man. If the lurkers get excited, you get excited. “Let’s do a smell?”I was was screaming “a sniffy sniff!”

QOTD: I’ve had a few during special dinners on vacation and they are truly “orgasmic” but due to their QPR I’d rather buy some Dom as in Dominus.

Having some your your “signature” Cardinale tonight with some pasta. Should be interesting.

QOTD: I’ve only tried Sauternes once, and it was well before I really appreciated wine. I couldn’t tell you the vintage or the producer…(yikes! how sad is that…?)

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

I love the sweetness and all the fruity flavors of the Sauternes. They rock! Just like you Gary. Sorry you didn’t get your 1000 that you asked for. I think that they will come once the weekend is here. You know how people watch you on the weekends too. Chin-up young man.

QOTD: Always wanted to try a Sauterne but the $$$ kept me away. Seeing how you broke it down is making me rethink this and at least try a half bottle since we are fans of blue cheese. Please keep up what your doing. You are changing the minds of the Ickeroos (look up the word in Cab Calloway’s Jive Dictionary) of the wine world.

    Shout out from North Carolina.

  102. February 21, 2008

    Dave Canada

QOTD – I like sauternes but it really is always a QPR issue. There are some Sauternes that are close to $200 and for that you can get an Azsu Essencia for shit sakes which will blow most sauternes out of the water…..Tokaji is #1, then Vintage Port, then Sauternes.
    * I have never tried a d’Yquem though so maybe I have not had my eyes opened……

  103. February 21, 2008

    BobMac

    Love the sauternes.

Oh my! I clicked play before checking to see how many comments you got yesterday, and at first I thought maybe you were dying or had for some reason lost the will to live. Where is Gary?! But I understand, it’s frustrating when so many people are on board and you get caught up in the excitement of two years and then it falls through. I agree that you’ll probably get it this weekend though!

As for Sauternes, the only bottle I’ve had was really just too-sweet, sticky junk. I was very disappointed because I had laid down some big bones ($30 for h/bottle) and it just didn’t deliver. (My tasting note for that wine says, “Even though I don’t know what it means, I think this is what all the wine writers are talking about when they use the word ‘cloying’.”) So I had sort of given up on Sauternes until this episode. Thanks.

  105. February 21, 2008

Too bad you didn’t hit 1000.
but, dude, you just tasted nearly $300 worth of Sauternes with some killer Bleu Cheese AND you are only 60 some friends away from 5000 on FB. Cheer Up!

  106. February 21, 2008

    Mandy

Today we have a new addition to the WLTV lexicon… the pouty-pout.

Cheer up! You just tried 300 dollars worth of wine while the rest of us at home drooled. That’s pretty good pay back, yes?

  107. February 21, 2008

    Katherine

QOTD: I don’t think I’ve had any. Yet another assignment for my pal.

Don’t be bummed, GV. Lurkers will be lurkers. The show is awesome. KUTGW (keep up the good work).

Sorry about not getting the 1000 mark. But I did my part! I left a comment!! And just because I love you so much, here’s another one. :)

But seriously, Jack is right. Where has Gary gone? Bring him back! We all want his infectious spirit to invade our computer screens again!

QOTD: Don’t know, haven’t tried it yet, but I have tried “ice” wine and wasn’t crazy about it…. However I will have an open mind and try some Sauterne the next chance I get.

  109. February 21, 2008

Well, this is terrible. The Feb. weather stinks, everyone is cranky and sick at work and GV is down. We’ll all have to leave 2 or 3 comments to yesterday’s ep to make it up.

No on Sauternes, (kind of pricey) would love to try. Late Harvest Rieslings and Moscato have been our usual.

Poor Gary. See what you lurkers have done? Sucked the spirit right out of the man. Don’t let them get you down Gary!

QOTD: We honeymooned in SFran in summer of 1990, had a glass of 1987 d’Yquem…something like $30 a glass, outrageous…. but loved it, wife loved it… few years later bought 24 halfs of 1990 d’Yquem,,, we now open one each and every July 21st…18 to go.

AFA todays ep…. if people aren’t going to comment, give em’ Sir Gary for a week or two, screw em’ if they don’t want to play…… I’m here for ya bro!

I’ve never had a Sauterne, but it sounds like I’d like it. I’ve only just recently moved on from being part of the CKC, so I’m not sure it’s something I’ll get to try soon (at least not until I get a real job!).

Cheer up, Gary! I didn’t even get a chance to watch yesterday’s episode in time before you were saying you were sad there wasn’t 1000 comments. Didn’t help I’ve been sick like everyone else and their brother…

Anyways…interesting episode. Sauternes is one of those desert wines I still need to try. The price doesn’t help… Someday…

Kinda depressing, seeing you so sad… QOTD: the first time I tried Sauternes it blew me away. It was one of those, wow, moments in wine that show just how much diversity is out there in the world of wine!

    Keep up the great work!

    winemadness

QOTD: I have never had a sauterne. However, you have definitely peaked my interest. Maybe a half bottle. How long do these wines last after they are opened?? Do you need to keep them in the fridge? Gary, snap out of it. Your usual high energy level really makes the show enjoyable.

  117. February 21, 2008

    Lenny

Last time I had a Sauterne was many years back. They were OK. I prefer Port of Sherry for a dessert wine.

I watched yesterday, but didn’t leave a comment. My computer was down for several weeks, and I was playing catch-up.

Don’t measure success by the number of comments, or by how everyone responds to your requests. we are a very independent bunch. Be happy about that.

Sweet- way to focus in on an episode about la pourriture noble! And although it sucks that you’re sad, I think it was a good mood to have for this educational ep.

QOTD: Only one, 2005 Chateau Les Tuileries Sauternes. It was all honey, all day long. But I find the QPR difficult so I prefer to drink muscat or port if I’m going for dessert wine.

Hey Gar, let’s turn that frown upside down! :)

Yeah, I dig Sauternes. I’ve got a d’Yquem, some Suduiraut, Rieussec, and for more everyday occasions, Guiraud, and Haut-Bergeron, Filhot, and a Lamourette. Plus I love other sweet wines (late harvest Rieslings and Zinfandels, and Chenin Blanc (Quarts de Chaume), Yalumba muscat, a Trockenbeerenauslese from Kracher (1/4 size mini bottle), port, tawny ports… Ok, I have a sweet tooth.

  120. February 21, 2008

Today’s episode reminded me of a tasting of Coteaux du Layon’s about 10 years ago: Was the ‘95 as good as or close to the 1990? We never really came to a firm conclusion other than adopting COTEAUX DU LAYON as one of those wines we should seek out when considering a Sauternes. Any chance you could feature these wines on one of your shows? Aslo good with Roquefort!

Gary, sweetie… You had 182 comments on your first anniversary show, and around 670 on yesterday’s before I watched today’s ep. I want you to think about this just for a moment.

I’m glad your email made me laugh, because episode #413, while informative, left me (and my 15yr old, who often watches w/me) feeling deflated. “Smell”?!! That’ll be enough of that crap! You did seem to be working rather hard at being subdued, so I have hope.

QOTD: I’ll bet I would like Sauterne. Haven’t had one due mainly to price intimidation. But I really enjoy a good port, have had some late harvest rieslings and some other dessert-type wines that I’ve liked very much, so if I could find a $30+/- Sauterne…

  131. February 21, 2008

    tarheel17

    Question for you, GV:
why did you taste the sauternes older to younger?
And have you ever rated a cheese less than 90????

QOTD: Mon Dieu!! Est-ce que j’aime les Sauternes?!?!? Mais oui!! I remember a tasting which was my friend’s 26th birthday — well….let me just say that he was born in 1947… need I say more? Think Yquem here. omg.

  133. February 21, 2008

    RonD

Do I like Sauternes? YES, many times over! It is one of the many wines that I require periodically. We have a few 1990’s in our cellar and have to agree that they’re one of the best “values” out there. I typically look for Rieussec, Climens, Doisy-Vedrines, etc.

Beyodf Fargues, what do you recommend?

  134. February 21, 2008

I was blessed with the chance to taste a 1976 d’Yquem in the summer of 2006 and have been on the hunt for an affordable bottle of it ever since then. I’ve never had foi gras yet though….great show…bumber you didn’t hit a grand yesterday…

Missed the second anniversary commentary yesterday. I just got the new Wine Spectator, then, and was distracted. Oh well. Seems like a long time–2 years–and a very short time, as well. The 400 episode mark seemed so much more remarkable, incredible, awesome, radool. I’ve got an open Doisy Vedrines on the counter that was started a week ago. Also, some truffle cheese to go with it.

  149. February 21, 2008

    Robin C

QOTD: I think I’ve just had Jordan’s 1983 The Riviere Rousse which is modelled after Chateau d’Yquem. It was wonderful. Dessert wines are special occasion wines for me, so I don’t have them much, but so far I like sauternes the best.
The show is stopping and starting a lot and Quicktime isn’t kicking in, so I’ll finish it tomorrow.

    Hey Gary,

Comment ne pas aimer le Sauternes ?! Yumm. Who doesn’t love Sauternes. How I came about to know Sauternes was through my Uncle from France who has posh and distinctive tastes. Sauternes is a bit similar to the Pineau des Charentes. Sauternes can also be taken as a digestive all depending on the occasion. I am glad you did Sauternes, I did not think New Yorkers knew about Sauternes and then again you are the wine specialist, pardon me & originally from Russia. It’s true, Sauternes is expensive but it is ever so yummy. Love the combination with the cheese, might just try it out as well or perhaps a desert, Sauternes is also very good with desert or lemon – lime pie, meringue, yummy stuff. Great show Gary !! :D

  152. February 21, 2008

    sciamachy2

I was too busy checking out the wine values on your site, while following orders to pause yesterday’s show, and to redirect my thoughts toward spending money. There was no time left to leave a comment. Doesn’t ordering the Anniversary Pack make enough of a statement and merit thought? I have no idea what wines will be included in this collection, and yet I have so much faith in you, GV, I purchased it. That should speak volumes!

QOTD: Have never tried Sauternes but would certainly love it if one was included in the Anniversary Pack!

Love the show Gary. I just started watching this week. And we also found out that we were pregnant today, so it’s the perfect time to build up my wine collection since I won’t be drinking any. I’m hooked on the show though. Love it.

I do LOVE dessert wines but am not blown away by sauternes, they just don’t seem balanced to me, not enough acid. I prefer trockenberenauslese, German ice wine, Kroker anyone??

Tarheel you are right, he should have tasted them in reverse order.

  160. February 21, 2008

It looked like the Sauterns and cheese cheered you up a bit… Don’t be down.

Man, Gary, you’re really excited about games aren’t you… I’d even say giddy.

QOTD: I haven’t had a Sauternes, I did like the 2005 Peter Lehmann Sémillon Botrytis though.

  162. February 21, 2008

I love Sauternes, though I don’t drink it as much as I’d like to. I was fortunate to be exposed to it during a series of wine seminars I attended years ago when I was in my mid-20s — a D’Yquem, yet :-) .

    Gary,

Get ready for the HBK Vayniac Crew!!! 3rd Thirsty Thursday!!!!

    MrJCG1

Thanks for the show Gary and on one of my favorites.

QOTD: I love Sauternes. However being fairly new to wines, I made the mistake of opening a bottle of 2003 Chateau Lafaurie-Peyraguey (97 Pts WS) a bit too early. Would have cellared it if I had been a bit more knowledgable at the time. But thank you for your tasting notes. I kept describing that funky taste as hair dye but you’re right it’s a petrolium taste. Thanks again for the show. Tough to stay away sometimes.

The wine czar felt just a tad blue,
That the comments had failed to accrue,
    But Roquefort fits the bill,

I enjoy Sauternes, and have had it a few times, the oldest one was over 25 years old – very special… But as far as dessert wines go, I prefer a nice riesling or cab franc Niagara icewine

    Cheer up Gary!!!!

    GV, Shake it off man.
Had a Sauternes about a year ago and did not like it. Way to sweet for my palate. That is why I don’t like Port also. Maybe it had something to do with being a cheap Sauternes as I believe I payed around 20-25 for it. Because of that though I would never pay 100 for a sweet wine. An no, I have not yet tried an ice wine.

  172. February 21, 2008

What…the 4 pack is already sold out!!! Not fair!!!

  173. February 21, 2008

Ok I get it, you love games. But GV, let’s get real here. It’s no big deal you can’t command 1000 comments. Notice that the Vayniak nation feeds off your energy and passion, and when you do a show like today it just brings down the whole family. No need to pout, you are doing a good job, and you shouldn’t need comments to stay on top of your game. I roll with port as my dessert wine, but will seek some sauternes to see the comparison.

QOTD: I’ve had other dessert wine, but not Sauternes, so when I get flush again I’ll give it a try.

I have a question back, which may need to go to the Ask Gary app when I don’t have a 16-day-old in my lap (she really loves the show but makes it hard for me to type!). If the 1990 was so brilliant, what’s to keep the $60.00 2003 from being that good in 2021? Could you tell that?

    QOTD: NO!

Mood of the Day: You have my permission to count this comment (because it’s coming from ME, as worth 10 comments). Also and alas, could it be that there are more than a few out there perceiving your threat as another cry of “Wolf!”?

And finally, Robin C said, “The show is stopping and starting a lot and Quicktime isn’t kicking in, so I’ll finish it tomorrow.”. I had that problem in spades yesterday, to the point that the ep was almost unwatchable. Perhaps there were many others having the same difficulty. (Fine reception today, tho’.)

QOTD: I have never had a Sauternes, but will have to look into it. I believe we have all three varieties you mentioned in the blend growing here in our vineyard in S. Oregon.

Sorry that you did not reach the 1000 mark on yesterday’s show. That would bum me out as well, especially on the 2nd year anniversary. Hopefully others will leave comments this time as I know how much they feed your show. I guess I will have to keep doing my part and leaving one for you. I was once a lurker, but have broken out of my shell. Your core set of Vayniacs will try to cheer you up.

PUNISH US GARY! THANK YOU SIR MAY I HAVE ANOTHER! Withhold the “sniffy-sniff” if you must – it just fulfills the masochistic lurkers’ fantasies! On a serious note: I’m betting the bucket would have been quite palletable today.

QotD: I’ve never had a Sauterne. Though I’m curious to try it out, I’m afraid the price point is out of my league unless it’s specifically for a birthday or something.

I just had my first Sauternes at a tasting a couple weeks back. I’m a newbie, so I definitely did not expect the intensity. It was a 1985 Chateau Gilette. It rocked. Thanks for doin the show even when you’re down.

    Gary,
I always turn down the intro to the show, but this time…. Your making the twins upset. Like my dad always said “Get over it or I’ll really give you something to pout about” Time to wipe their little eyes dry.
Never tried a Sauternes, always been a Port man, Taylor Flads 40 year mmmmm….

qotd: haven’t tried it yet, but am looking forward to it. maybe i’ll break out a bottle of that and a bottle of the hungarian dessert wine (forgot the grape) for comparison sometime.

Sauternes can be wonderful wines. Liked the episode – even if it was laid back Thursday.

Aw Gary… GARY! What’s up with the frown? Hey, at least you’re getting me out of lurk-mode.
Hate dessert wine (won’t get near port, never tried any sauternes though…) but loooove me some blue cheese. Fourme d’Ambert too, deLICIOUS!

Wow…a cameo from Episode #92 Gary Vaynerchuck! (Link it up!)….a subdued “Vay-ner-chuck” intro….
    threw me off.
Never had (heard of) Sauterns…but excited to look ‘em up.
    thanks…
and GaryV don’t worry…if people’s thoughts and feelings about you would automatically type themselves into the comment sections…

Buck up! I was feeling bummed this morning, myself. Trying to find a parking space stresses me out. I heard this on the radio, and it cheered me up a bit though:

Is it lame that I felt all warm and fuzzy after hearing that? Hey, I can’t help that I’m all super vulnerable before I’ve had my morning coffee.

I’m really sorry I didn’t leave you a comment yesterday….I did submit a wine question and “friend’ed” you up on Facebook….(can I get partial credit. But seeing what a downer it was for you not to get a 1000 yesterday is a downer for me. Sorry!

As for sauterne, I think I have had some but it’s been so long ago I don’t really remember what I thought of it….probably was unremarkable…why else would I not remember it?

Back in the 1970’s I visited a nice dress shop in the Georgetown section of Washinton DC. We were ushered thru the store to a hidden garden in back where we were served sauturn and tiny sandwitches while models came out to show us the latest styles. Whenever I taste these wines I think of that day. Jerry the 2thdr

After mostly drinking dessert wines like muscat, I was once fortunate enough to try the 1976 Chateau d’Yquem. I almost wish I had done so after I had tried a wider range of dessert wines, just so I could have had a greater appreciation of it. That said, it was amazing–it seemed as complex as an herbal liqueur, like MP Elisir Roux.

Yes I love Sauternes, but I don’t often have it because it would put the pounds on.

    Who is that kidder…

Hi Gary, is that about the season? Close people around are all tend to getting a little down this two weeks. Maybe about the season, maybe about our aging.

Whatever, QOTD, Sauternes can go along well with my wife’s cheese cake, so, good choice for me except the price. Maybe some other sweet wines from Bordeaux. I remember you found a under 10 dollar thing last year, and that is awesome. Is that a Sauterne? Whatever, good day~

Despite the low-key style, I enjoyed the hell out of this episode. Sometimes I even prefer a more chill GV. Dig your style, brother.
Big time wines always get me excited, although I have a hard time seeing myself ever buying a bottle over the $50 price point. I’ve never had Sauterne, but I am definitely interested after seeing this episode.

QOTD: Based on my solitary tasting, I’m a Sauterne fan.

I understand you’re a little upset, but you should be happy while throwing back Benjamin bottles of wine. Also, if it makes you feel any better; I barely had time to leave a comment yesterday since you brought 30min+ of the thunder, which I enjoy and don’t like to rush.

Sorry you are not feeling the love Gary! I might pick up some Sauterne this weekend if I can find a half bottle that is not TOO much. I am going to go back and find some episodes on Port and watch them as I have never tried it and I am hitting up the wine store this weekend!

I am excited for the anniversary 4 pack show, I am glad I got mine ordered yesterday and I ordered some wine with the free shipping code, thanks for hooking us up with that!

    Chateau_Plonk

I love me some Sauternes. They’re pricey sure, but there are some very similar and much less expensive equivalents in the Barsac region next door to Sauternes that can give similar tastiness. And for even less money, check out the sweet wines of the Juracon region in southern France which are made in a similar fashion. People who shun sweet wines are silly. Oh well, more for me.

  274. February 22, 2008

    Ben Janssen South Australia

Been to Bordeaux and had a few Sauternes.
When I came home to Australia once of the first things I did was seek out Aussie Sauternes’s only to be disappointed. So far I have found them to have over the top fakeness. Tasting more like lemonade and fruit juice. Big price point on the Sauternes. I’m glad I brought some back from Bordeaux.

  282. February 22, 2008

    Chris S

Ok, my initial response was a bit emotional, sorry about that
    QOTD:
I had a Sauterne that my grandfather, a big wine appreciator, brought to a family holiday meal. It was good though much sweeter than any wine I had tasted before. It was like honey that had been diluted but not lost any of it’s sweetness or richness, it was just more liquid. It was pretty impressive, than it was sweet without being thin.

  283. February 22, 2008

    Yoni Rabkin

QOTD: I really want to try them out, but lack the coin-age.

  284. February 22, 2008

    Brandon T.

Dolce is too sweet in my opinion… it’s good, but not worth the price, and has less apricot, botrytis goodness than good sauternes…

  285. February 22, 2008

    J Crazy

QOTD: *and I have to say it’s a pretty weak question* but I’ll answer it not the less: I like tasty wines. I’ve had some Sauternes that was awesome and I’ve had some that tasted like plain old apricots and honey with nothing exciting to them. I’m not a huge sweets fan so I’m a little biased but when they come in with balance of sugar, fruit and acidity I’m all bouty bouty. But that’s the same with everything. No one bats 1000 and no wine region or producer puts out 100 pt. wines every vintage. So, yeah, if it’s good I like it. If it sucks I’m not such a big fan.

  286. February 22, 2008

Trockenbeerenauslese is the greatest word in all of wine, in my opinion… also great are icewines… which can be so damn concentrated with flavor… man, i can just imagine a bucket full of trockenbeerenauslese, icewine, sauternes, petit verdot jam and other jams and fresh honey all mixed together and dumped over the buttocks of gary and other pretty girls and slathering it in while they recite poems and laugh and it would be great with excellent sexuality!

  288. February 22, 2008

    rimarfish

QOTD: Never had a Sauternes, although i like dessert wines. I’m way due to try them. I love Tokaji on the other hand.
    Don’t be sad gary.

QOTD: I like Sauternes. Had a De Fargue (non vintage) recently that I wasn’t so impressed by, but the Chateau Guiard non vintage is exceptional. I was lucky enough to try a low end Royal tokaji…holy crap. That was a dessert wine in a class of it’s own.

QOTD: Im still in cheap man wine mode, but I like the fact that you have all these varieties because it lets me know what I should be looking to track down as I develop my personal wine tasting library.

Next chance to try Sauterne, I will! Remember we all love you!

Hells Yeah, I’m bringing the THUNDER today baby! I LOVED the episode GV. From the sarcastic start to the fantastic finish, I was one the edge of my seat begging for more ;) . Come on people, leave a freaking comment! Tens of thousands watch, 680 leave a comment -what kind of support is that on a 2-year anniversary!?! This is free TV! Normally, it takes millions to run a television show, and all GV just wants is a little emotional support. All you have to do is type your name and email into the appropriate boxes and click ‘add comment’. You don’t even HAVE to think in order to leave a comment. Your post counts toward the total no matter what you write in the comment section…

QOTD: Maybe I’ll try some Sauternes if the wine bar/restaurant will put it on the receipt as “expensive grape juice”. Then -and only then- would my expense account pay for it!

  296. February 22, 2008

After the big 2nd Anniv paty episode this one felt like a hangover. GV so muted it felt like he was medicated or we were all being punished for

Awesome episode!! really, really classy and nice. QOTD: I love Sauternes!! I have a small (not so small anymore) sub-collection of Sauternes and dessert wines. I have a couple of 1996 Chateau de Roland, which is the year that my older son was born, and I’ve been fortunate enough to have drunk two or three bottles of that one. I had a couple of Chateau Giraud, which is 1er Cru, but drank them. Gary, THANKS for all you do. It’s all so much fun and A LOT of thunder spread around.

  298. February 22, 2008

Glad to see you did a tasting on sweet wines. Pricey but worth seaking out at least once in your lifetime, very individualistic wines with a lot of character.
    Good show

No reason for you to be down for not reaching a 1000 — Just think, 600+ comments…where else could you see that? Sometimes it’s more about the content of the comments than the numbers. And as long as you keep bringing the thunder, there’s always a chance to reach that goal. GV, your the man! Enough said. QOTD — Never had it but will give it try.

That was depressing. Fire up! ;) Too many good things in the world to think about. Appreciate the wine education today– admittedly pricy wine, so have not had one yet. Even 1/2 bottle would be tought to throwdown. Maybe, some day on an expense account, bonus day situation! Looking forward to the old Gary later today!

GV I too am bummed more comments weren’t left. I know there out there cause I’ve told at least 500 people. I know you will be back in full swing as you are to passionate to be down for long. Hang tough GV you make a lot of people smile.
The dessert wines I have had come in much smaller bottles, very nice though.

very interesting show. it’s helpful to see different vintages of the same wine. and i am all about the pairing episodes – i’d love to see more of those.

qotd: i might have had a sauternes before but i’m not 100% certain. anyways, the white dessert wines i have had have always been delicious…in smallish doses.

can’t wait for the 4 pack!!!

GV, your problem is you don’t fully understand the world of statistics! Only half the world is awake every 24 hours and other half is at work so the data must be normalized. 755*((0.5*0.5)+(1)+(0.5*0.5))= 1132.5 YESSS!! So I guess we need to play the part of GV today. There are too many things to be happy about to be bummed. Like the fact that your “job” allows you to try $100 bottles of wine and $20 a pound cheese and talk about it! :)

Keep up the awesome work, looking forward to many years to come, cya at Bern’s. And oh yeah Go Dolphins…..

Great show. Something that I never get to do at home.

Have to say that to everyone who doesn’t like the super-energetic opening: down-in-the-mouth Gary is worse. Leave a comment. When the show started today I thought that I had mistakenly happened upon one of the first (serious, subdued) episodes from two years ago.

    Go Gary, Go!

Never had a Sauternes yet, I’m well overdue to try one. I love other dessert wines, late harvest vignoles, rieslings, etc… Great stuff. Good show.

  311. February 22, 2008

    LarryTheWineGuy

Love Sauterne!!! You nailed two important factors that I Educate My Customers about G.V. 1- Foie Gras and Sauterne…a MUST Pairing…the Ultimate Pairing with Foie Gras 2- Blue Veined Cheeses such as The Roquefort, perfect pairing with Sauterne or Late Harvest Wines etc. BTW, you have to have Justin get you some CABRALES from Spain…stronger than Kryptonite and the Most Powerful Blue Veined Cheese on The Planet!!! That is also Perfect With Sautherne.

One Pet Peeve of mine as a Sommelier…is what I call the “D” Word that I never use when speaking about Ice Wines, Late Harvest, Fortified Wines, or Botrytised Wines like Sauterne “D”essert Wines. I prefer the term that was on your Chalkboard…. “Sweet Wines” or “Nectars”. As you can see…you reccommended Foies Gras as the Ultimate Pairing with Sauterne… Not alot of people have Foies Gras as a Dessert… Point Made?? Love Ya GV.. don’t feel bad about the E-Mails… You know those LURKERS!!!

  312. February 22, 2008

I’ve been a lurker for too long, after hundreds of great shows that have turned me on to all kinds of wine I never knew about – this is my first post!
I love Sauternes – just gave one for a gift a few days ago! From show # 406 – going to buy a Cab Franc fom the Loire Valley today, going to look at Bandols, and have been looking for St. Albain (sp?).
    Thanks for all you do!

I love sauternes. Have some Reiussec and La Tour Blanche stored away. Although, love the Michele Chiarlo Moscato d’Asti Nivole coming in around 12 bones for half bottle. Perfect size to share for small group.

Dude, you ARE being silly with this down mood thing. You know better than to blame the customers.

    Norman Summers

    Dear Gary,
I stumbled across your show about two months ago and have been a avid follower since. I have told my friends about the show. As I started to watch the show today you appeared somewhat less enthuseastic, mentioning that you were dissappointed you did not get the 1,000 comments you had hoped to get. I may fall in the catagory you identify as lurkers, although I don’t feel like a lurker. There may be many reasons one does not respond but does apperciate and enjoy your show. 1) techniquely challenged 2)age, I am probley near your father’s age, but I don’t look as good 3) it appears to be a young persons format and I enjoy the youth. I do enjoy your show, although I live in Oklahoma and many of the wine’s you review are not available in Oklahoma. Norman

    Shadowbird

I take partial blame for the low-key show. I was one of the ones who prodded Gary to do a show…on Twitter and Facebook.

QOTD: Haven’t had one. I do like dessert wines like Muscats and ice wines, though.

  319. February 22, 2008

    Iron Man

GV, don’t hang your hat on yesterday. You keep bringing it, bring it sad, bring it mad, bring it in your thunder-awesomeness…we’ll still be watching GV cause we love wine and we love what you teach us.

QOTD Never had the noble rot from France, but I’m going shopping after work GV, and I’m buying one cause you told me to (well you didn’t tell me, but you sure did encourage me to try it!) See Gary…it’s not all bad. Chin up, Super-man.

Sauternes are great, but obviously quite pricey. I but them in the half bottle size.

  321. February 22, 2008

Never had a Sauternes. Honestly, I’ve never had a dessert wine that I’ve absolutely loved. My pal hasn’t come around to them yet. I do taste dessert wines on a regular basis just to see if I find one that I might like.

  322. February 22, 2008

Is sauterne like gewurtzaminer or muscat? I don’t care for the super syrup like wines. Perhaps I’ll try one at a restaurant.

    Justin Thorp

Hope you’re feeling better today bro. I was going to buy the anniversary pack but you’re sold out. :-(

QOTD: I love Sauternes. They’ve rocked my world a few times. Need to buy some more.

  324. February 22, 2008

    DavidB

QOTD: I have had one, thanks to your suggestion some months ago and it was very nice. BTW-they seem to last a long time after opening as well, so a 1/2 bottle is good and you can sip on it for days:)

  325. February 22, 2008

    Chuckythe2651

Sauternes…I’m not sure I would like it, but you got to give it a shot right? Sweet typically isn’t my thing but the pallet changes so maybe I will have to seek some out this weekend.

  326. February 22, 2008

    KNode

QOTD: I’ve never had a Sauternes (or any dessert wine for that matter). They’re usually a little too pricey for me, but hopefully one day I will have the chance to give them a try.

QOTD: I think my bro made me try one ages ago, but back then I wasn’t “into” wine so I can’t be sure. I do remember the syrupy sweetness and that makes me think it was a Sauterne. I like that they are available in “half-bottle” amts, more likely to seek one out that way.

Dude – I CANNOT handle you being so low-key (okay, and maybe a little BRATTY) One of the things that makes your show in my eyes is your over the top energy. I get it though, we can’t always be 1,000%, but don’t let your ‘tude be because the lurkers don’t comment!!!!

  329. February 22, 2008

    Marc Bienvenue

Sauterne is a very special wine, i love the botrytis action…that’s give the gold’s liquid.
Very helpful to see the difference between the vintage and the age.
    Thank’s Gary

    BoiseWiner

Why so bummed…it’s always about quality not quantity :) You ARE changing the wine world, you DO make a difference and we LOVE watching you! I know many who don’t like to leave comments for whatever reason – it takes time out of drinking wine LOL.

QOTD: Have never tried a Sautern but have a half bottle of 2003 Late Harvest Botrytis Riesling we picked up at a little winery in Washington. As it was $40 I guess someone has to die before we will drink it LOL. We heard that the best food to pair it with is a tiny marshmallow roasted on a toothpick over a candle *grin*.

QOTD: love sauternes, but cant afford them usually :(

Great to see an episode of 3 different vintages. 2001 is hailed as a great sauterne vintage, some even say it is better than 1997. i was in sauterne this summer for a week and the wine makers liked their 03’s. i am still nervous about that vintage in general. i would love the 1990.

QOTD: love sauterne. it is not for every meal, it gets heavy. my favorite is sauterne with a carved out pear with roqcfort. it is good with the fois gras, but i kinda prefer reisling VT with it.

This, in some ways, is the show at its best. Lots of great information/background on a wine that I never would have otherwise been interested in. Thanks!

I am a fan, it is a great wine once in a while…it is pricey to drink regularly like you mentioned. My last desert wine was Baumard Coteaux Du Layon Clos Ste. Catherine which I picked up after watching the show you did on it.

No apology necessary, you have every right to be upset…#412 was a big day and a great show.

    Gary,

This is my first comment left mostly due to your mood on da Thunder show today…

First off, thanks for taking the time to produce such a high-quality, fun, entertaining show. You have build a loyal army of lurkers who watch, enjoy, but remain silent (slowly we seem to step up one at a time… and make a comment or two)

I’m embarrassed to say that I was a Georges Duboeuf Beaujolais drinker before meeting up with the VaynerNation of WLTV.. While in Spain this summer, I was able to talk almost as if I knew what I was talking about as we were served wonderful, inexpensive wines made along the Costa Brava. Feeling that I needed to “Branch out” recently French wines have been on my table, and I have you to thank.

This thanksgiving, my family and I enjoyed a wine assortment of wines. For several, it was the first time tasting an Alberino which was the hit with the meal. You, sir, were there in sprit.

Just so you know this isn’t a proposal for marriage ;-) I’ll also “blame” you for the steady stream of benji’s out of my wallet, into the wine community! That said, it’s a good trade.

Take care, go SPURS (do you wanna borrow a Tim Duncan Bobble-head for your desk sometime ??!) and Thanks!

I am leaving a comment cause i just dont like the label of being a “lurker”…lol. GV, your still the best wine show on the internet. I have a feeling you’ll be getting your own TV show very soon. Mark this prediction.

Holy Crap! Somebody run me a warm bath and hand me the razor blade. Not only is it cold, cloudy and damp outside but, GV’s mood may very well have put me over the edge ;) Dude, snap out of it….QOTD, Never have I had a Sautern…. come to think of it, I think I’ll quit drinking wine all together…. it just ain’t fun anymore… ho hum

I don’t like for GV to feel bad, but I do like not knowing what happens ;-)

    #1 Lurker in the hizzi.

Gary, get over it. You got more lurkers than posters. I love the show, but don’t comment. Your mood today inspired me to post, because it sucked. Keep that up and I won’t watch anymore. Anyone can taste and comment, but you need to keep the Vayniac spirit alive. That’s why we watch.

QOTD: I’ve never tasted a Sauternes before. I would never buy a desert wine at that price point. I rather get a Cali or Chile Cab any day. I have never liked desert.

  346. February 22, 2008

    Carly

Aw, poor Gary :( I hate to see you down in the dumps. Nothing a bottle or three of wine and a couple of good cheeses can’t cure, though, right?

QOTD: I have never had a Sauterne, since I don’t roll that deep. In general, I haven’t been a huge fan of the dessert wines that I have tried because I don’t like very sweet wine, but I hope I get an opportunity to try some more in the future (because my mantra is: trynewthingstrynewthingtrynewthings…)

  347. February 22, 2008

    Donna Marie

QOTD: Sauternes are not at the top of my list, but I probably would enjoy them more with a little bleu cheese, or maybe even that steak-dessert wine combo, several back episodes ago.

I have a fair amount of Sauternes in my basement, but somehow Mrs. Sassodoro and I seldom end up drinking it. At the end of a meal we have generally had enough wine and aren’t looking for more. We’ll just have to find other occasions.

Too bad about not making 1000 comments. Still, the site is showing 780 at the moment and that is not to be sneezed at.

  354. February 22, 2008

Dad bought Sauternes long ago. The kids grew up enjoying these jewels. Looking through the cellar the other day I came across a ‘71 D’yquem. The last of a case!

QOTD: Yeah, I’ve had a few Sauternes and I thought they were nice. In terms of dessert wines I tend to prefer late harvest vidals and rieslings, or icewine, but sauternes can be very good.

Sorry you’re so bummed gary! Maybe tomorrow will be better!

  356. February 22, 2008

    bill ward

I have never tried Sauterne. I’ve always associated Bordeaux, Burgundy, etc with France. Never gave the dessert wines a thought! Ports, late harvest zin, viogner, etc from Cali is usually how “I’ve rolled.” This could be an interesting experience, but pricey. Thanks Gary!

  357. February 22, 2008

    sharon

qotd: Can’t say as I have. They cost too much.

Aren’t bad moods satisfying, though? I thought it funny that you paired your Sauternes with the “blues”. Yum! Think I’ll run out and pick up a creamy roquefort.

  358. February 22, 2008

Yeah…that ending was pretty depressing, lol. Don’t be bummed Gary! Give it a little more time, I’m sure we’ll reach 1000! If not, I’ll go back and post enough comments to get us there :D .

Other than the handful of depressing moments, I actually enjoyed the show. Lots of good info, focused, and more cheese!

QOTD: Sauterne is a little rich for my blood (in other words, no, I’ve never had it). One day!

No sniffy sniff? Give it a smell? WTF?

I love Sauterne, but I hate spelling it. Excellent with the foie, especially if the foie has a little fruity compote action going on.

I feel bad about not commenting on the #2 show, just too busy to hit the site yesterday.

  362. February 22, 2008

    Nick Lewis

Gary, I love dessert wines. Maybe it’s from my time living in Australia and drinking their “stickies”. I’ve had sauternes with foie gras and it is an amazing combination of flavors. I’d probably drink more sauternes if it wasn’t so damn pricey. So I look around for other botritis alternatives.

  363. February 22, 2008

    LauraG

Hey Vayniacs! Consider going back to yesterday’s show and leaving a comment. They’re within about 200 of the 1000 Gary wanted – it’s not too late, and I hate to see him so bummed!

QOTD: I do like sauternes, but my girlfriend adores them. I think she is seduced by the sugar. I think I prefer a good icewine over a Sauternes if I’m going to have a desert wine.

    The inveterate lurker here:

Placing great weight on the number of comments for a particular episode is about like relying exclusively on ratings for a wine. I never miss an episode, haven’t since I first heard about WLTV over six months ago, and I’ve gone back to check out most of the back episodes. But I don’t comment unless I’ve something to say. When it comes to forums and comments, the level of “background noise” on the internet in general annoys me, so I try not to add to it.

QOTD: I adore Sauternes. Had a Château d’Yquem (wish I could remember the vintage) a few years ago that altogether changed the way I look at wine. It was stunning. Also love late harvest Riesling, Tokay etc. So I have a sweet tooth.

    Back to lurking…

I love Sauternes. I recently had a bottle of the 2005 Chat Filhot. It was pretty amazing for $21. To any posters that are on the fence about buying a dessert wine, or a Sauternes specifically, you should really try some of the cheaper, but still highly rated, dessert wines like the ‘05 Filhot. It’s a GREAT entry into Sauternes. Try a Cockburn Ruby Port for a dessert red. At $10-12 it’s a solid entry into Port.

Sorry , Gary, our wine club is the third Friday (not Thursday) of the month. We get 50 people each month to blind taste 6 wines. Keep up the good work.

Love Sauternes, and we already have a tasting group. It was my turn last and I did provide a 1985 Lynch Bages after which we had Sauternes and Foie Gras. It was incredible, although, some were not so sure about the liver! I believe it was one of the best pairings I have come across. I also through in some blue cheese. Aint life grand!!!!!!!!!!!

I cant believe it didnt hit 1000 comments on the 2 year show,
QOTD Yes, but the first was a mistake at work when someone open a half bottle of d’Yquem so after hours he let us all have a glass, Loved it and love sauternes.

The roquefort is appropriate to your mood: blue cheese for a blue guy.

Sorry I didnt watch yesterday or else I would have left a comment. Your demeanor today has put me in a funk. “Lets take a smell,” OUCH that hurts.
    QOTD
When I was first getting into wine my uncle to me to a big wig tasting and had some amazing wines but the one that I remember was the 90 d’ yquem. It blew my mind then and flung open the doors of the wine world to me.

  379. February 22, 2008

    Karl Laczko

What a sweet episode! (..and it’s OK to be a bit blue, matches the cheese.)

QOTD – Not sure yet, only had tastings rather than a proper drink. I have a starter version, Château Roumieu 2005 Sauternes, in the cellar, but who knows when it’ll be opened. At the moment I’d choose Tokaji first.

  380. February 22, 2008

I like the vertical approach. It must be difficult to to with inventories though.

I do like Sauternes, but it also signals an end to the wine drinking at a gathering.

  381. February 22, 2008

    fangorn81

Ok, so it looks like we’re not gonna make it YET AGAIN!

I challenge everyone to a top comment on the list duel! I am gonna fight to keep one of my comments in the most recent 2 under the episode!

If you get tired of all my lame posts, bury them!

  382. February 22, 2008

    downtnmark

This was soooo cool. Red wines come in dark bottles and you can’t see their color evolution. It was fascinating to see how the color of these wines evolves over time (even between the ‘03 & ‘01). Thanks for doing this vertical tasting.

It’s funny how the one thing that you cannot suppress, even when you are “majorly” bummed, is the SNIFFY SNIFF. We would miss it if it didn’t show up either.

  383. February 22, 2008

Sincerest apologies for not leaving a comment yesterday! I am just now catching on to the Thunder show. Fantastic! Please don’t get down about the “Vaniacs” not hitting the target yesterday. I’m sure there were hundreds, no, thousands of newbies out there who caught the show but haven’t been caught up in the wave of enthusiasm enough to leave a comment. . . yet! Oh they will . . . they absolutely will! As the Japanese would say, “Gary-san, genki dashite . . . ganbatte kudasai!”

The low-tone GV is just fine. To do a show like this 5 days a week you are to be commended on your constant high energy approach. Nothing wrong with the occassional softer approach.

Ah, yes. Mr. Psychological Manipulation! LOL on “let’s have a SMELL”!

Try comparing the 1990 to La Tour Blanche 1990 my favorite D’Yquem substitute. I would be very interested in the outcome. I still have a few bottles in the cellar.

GV, just getting caught up on my WLTV over the past few days…dessert wines rock, so interesting. Esp like Sauternes. Don’t let the snow get you down! Idea for a good QOD for Mr. GV – what would you drink if you were trapped in the Wine Library in a snow storm?

Hi, it’s often tough to keep going but you just have to march on. The show is quite valuable as a tasting reference point. I love sauternes – I bought a case of the 2001 Laufaurie Peraguay. It is stunning – fabulous complexity and a super presence of botrytis. Tonnes of pear and peach flavours but cut across by mature acid and angular botrytis. I give it 95. I also have the 1988 Guiraud. It’s a beautiful gold brown colour but in fact not as good as the 01 LP despite the vintage. I give it 91. I have the 03 Reuissec – I agree with your assesment on the 03s, they are somewhat flabby. I give it 90.

Anyway I’ll look out for the 90 and 01 de fargues, maybe the 05 en primeur. By the way, tried the 05 meyney, it was super. I agree the 05 Bordeaux are top. Keep up the good work. You can’t be on top form every day.

  400. February 22, 2008

    Wine Not?

Cheer up, Gary! You have more fans out there than most people have hairs on their head! Seriously!!!!

QOTD: Sauternes….big YUM on that! We did an “Aging Gracefully” tasting about a month ago and finished with a d’Yquem. It wasn’t that old (2002, I think) but still was a beautiful mouth of honey! And I would never drink one without a nice hunk of blue cheese around somewhere!

  401. February 22, 2008

    Bill & Wendy Wilcox

Wendy and I had a Sautern in-house so we tried it along with you. Lots of fun with our cheese and desert.

So now, knock it out of the park!

QOTD: I’ve never had a sauternes wine :’(, yet another area to go exploring :D , loved the episode. I assume when it comes to dessert wines that if they have a good acid fruit balance (fair chunk o’ acid) that they’ll typically age a few years. I have a few cheapies (15$/375mL) that I picked up in 1/2 cases so I’ll be able to answer it myself in a few years but hopefully I’m not wasting my time.

Keep up the effort, people are starting to leave comments – it’s improving month over month the averages are up!

  404. February 22, 2008

    Dave from VA

QOTD: Gotta give it a try, had an interesting white dessert wine from Kluge here in VA recently that is aged in bourbon barrels and is pretty tasty. In general I prefer port for after-dinner beverages.

  405. February 22, 2008

    The Chinonator

I really enjoy Sauternes, but in my house they are for special occasions only since my wife doesn’t like them. I’ve had Rieussec, Yquem, Giraud and more. I find that Sauternes have to be served alone or paired with the right dessert. Otherwise they can be an awkward end to a fine meal. There must be several drinkers to justify opening a 750 mL bottle. Finding an aged Sauternes at the local wine store is a rarity in my locale.

    GV:
As far as education goes, this was a great episode. I was just happy to actually hear “D’Yquem” pronounced outloud so now I know how to say it after reading about it for years.
However, without that classic GV pizzaz it left me feeling like I just drank some gray ghost chardonnay.

Cheer up buddy, you’ve got 1000+ comments in episode 412 as of this comment.

  411. February 22, 2008

    Canadian Chris

too funny. Love the roaring 40s, had some for the first time a few weeks ago.

QOTD: Interesting story – bought a half bottle of 04 Ste Helene, without really knowing what sauternes was about. Popped it, poured it WHOA HOLY SMOKES what’s going on here?! Figured out it’s a dessert wine in a hurry. Didn’t blow me away, but I’m imagining what a good one tastes like… will be hunting for 500mls of the 90 fargues next time I visit Premier in Buffalo!

  412. February 22, 2008

    ScottG

I’ve never has a Sauternes, but I do like sweet dessert wines once in a while. Price has kept me away, but there are some nice sweet wines out there in the $20 or less range.

  413. February 22, 2008

    YoungDave

BOGUS that we didn’t get to 1000 comments yesterday…maybe I should have left another 300 to make the quota.

QOTD: I LOVE to experience all wines, from the most dry Sancerre to the stickiest, sweetest Niagara icewine… but to have a whole glass of the sticky stuff isn’t my bag. However, I gotta give it up to Sauternes, St. Croix du Mont, Hungarian Tokaji, Austrian and German Beerenauslese and other Noble rot wines for their unique flavors and complexity and AMAZING ability to pair with stinky and bleu cheeses and, as you mentioned, foie gras. I hope the energy is back soon! Cheers, and thanks as always.

  415. February 23, 2008

    Larry D

I was a little puzzled that you would do a vertical from old to new. I guess it is because as the wines age, they grow in subtlety?

  416. February 23, 2008

    BenF

You GV come on brother lots of us were there for ya… don’t punish all of us because some lurkers did not come out to comment… Anyway great show lets roll with some lower priced late harvest dessert wines…

Thanks for the comment about 1/2 bottles as that is the only way I buy Sauternes as they are cheaper and age faster. You got dangerously close to Sir Gary at times though. What happened to sniffy sniff?

  419. February 23, 2008

    Cliff and Darcey

Awwww GeeVee, I feel so bad! Hey, I left a comment! It breaks my heart to see you so low in spirits! Cheer up … so many of us out here watch and learn and drink and just LOVE what you do. You’ve got more friends than anyone I know!

QOTD: Never had one, but did taste one at the local wine store. Would certainly love to drink that 1990 or 2001 that you had on the show, but Jeeeez, they be ’spensive!

GeeVee … keep up what you do! And OH, BTW, please don’t stop rating the wines. Darcey and I have only been steered wrong ONCE in over a year of watching and buying wines that you recommend (usually from WL) … and THAT was the Alamos Malbec; we can’t see why you would have recommended that one, BUT that was the only one, so I am not complaining at all. We rely heavily on your opinion, and Darcey and I consider ourselves so lucky to not only have amazingly similar tastes in wine as one another, but to have amazingly similar tastes in wine as you! THAT is incredible, and we have consumed SO MANY great wines that we would never have known about if it had not been for you, and for you rating them, so please don’t stop that valuable service. You have literally changed the way we drink, the way we taste, and what we buy and what we try.

We can’t kiss your ass any more than we already do! We totally DIG WLTV!

  420. February 23, 2008

Patience is a virtue, my dear Vaynerchuk. Some of us don’t have a chance to leave comments until the weekend. Episode 412 now has over 1,000 comments.

QOTD: I LOVE Sauternes. The last one I had was a 1947 that you brought to a WLTV offline. I’m a sucker for noble rot wines. Berenauslese, trockenberenuaslese, etc. Just wish I could afford to drink them more often.

Here’s my QOTD: why buy a wine that won’t be at its peak until you’re too old to appreciate it?

  421. February 23, 2008

    luvgrapesqueezings

I love Sauternes! Good EP GV!

  422. February 23, 2008

    WMiree

QOTD: Yes, I love Sauternes! I have been buying and drinking them for several decades. My oldest is a 1975 Chateau Climens. My oldest Chateau de Fargues Sauternes are 1988, 1989, and 1990. I have noticed that they tend to lose some of their overt sweetness with significant age, but gain remarkable complexity in its place. I agree wholeheartedly with you on the food/wine pairings of Sauternes with blue cheeses or foie gras: they have got to be the greatest of all food/wine pairings.

I loved your show today, and focused better with the lower key presentation. You know, you can still do this with enthusiasm instead of melancholy.

Actually, the item in this episode that really brings the thunder for me is the Fourme D’Ambert, my local Whole Foods has had a wonderful supply of it since about 2 years ago. Any where from nibbling on it with wine to making an alfredo-style sauce out of it, yum!

QOTD: I happen to know everything there is to know about Sauternes! I love Sauternes. I love Sauternes on pancakes. I love it on pizza. And I even take Sauternes and put a little bit in my hair when I’ve had a rough week. What do you think holds it up, slick?

    GV,
Great episode. Catching up so I didn’t get a chance to leave a comment for the anniversary episode.
QOTD: Never had Sauternes before, but wife and I are going to a fancy French restuarant for our anniversary on the 26th and am thinking about seeking out a Sauternes if they have one. We almost always skip on the dessert, but this year we decided to skip on gifts for each other and just have a really nice dinner. Think it’s time to enjoy the evening and spend an extra hour trying some cheeses and hopefully a Sauternes after our meal.

Fella sooooooooo sorry for not adding a comment sooner on the 2 year ani, only getting to watch now, been very very busy at work.

GV, I’ve only tried one Sauterne and was a little dissapointed. It had awesome fruit but I didn’t feel that it had the acid to balance it out. Your cheese and Sauterne pairing had my mouth watering so I’m going to hunt down a couple more and give them another go.

  446. February 25, 2008

Been having some problems connecting to the Internet so I only caught about 2/3 of yesterday’s show. Actually been behind in watching since I got sick too. I have confidence that the thunder will be back soon.

I love me some Sauternes. I’ve had 2 different producers- big fan of Ch Rieusac.

  448. February 25, 2008

I actually think Sauterne is great. I thought the 2001 Fargues was great. I did not get the chlorine thing at all. Do you think there was a problem with the bottle you tried?

    ScottyWed

Haven’t tried the Sauternes yet, but I will now. I’ve been happy to see a good selection of 375 ml bottles. I’ll pick up 1 for this weekend. Dude, cheer up. Your show still rocks.

Oh, Gary-missed you today! Your crazy enthusiasm is always soooo infectious. We need your “sniffy-sniff” and “tasty-taste”! Don’t let the lurkers get you down.
qotd-love Sauternes, but also am quite happy with the less expensive late harvest wines. When are you coming to Oregon??

  452. February 26, 2008

Not had a first class Sauterne a little pricey for this wine lover, I’ve tried a few 2nd class and have enjoyed them. The cheese is another great idea bring them on and I’ll try them along with you. As always you’re a show man up or down.

  453. February 26, 2008

Is the color change due to the action of light through the clear glass bottles? Would the color change still occur if they were kept in dark colored glass? Just wondered.

  454. February 26, 2008

    Keith Brown

Yeah!!! I love the low energy. NOT!! QOTD: Nope, never had a Sauterne. I don’t roll that deep. Yeah, when the father-in-law is buying…hmmmm…

I am a little behind so watching this about a week late…Gary you did reach over 1000 for the anniversary show, better late than never, right?

QOTD: I did have 1 inexpensive Sauternes, and I was not blown away. I would love to try one of the big boys though. A little out of my price range at the moment though!

Great show Gary, you are an inspiration.

Went to a whisky and food tasting, and ended up being given a 1/4 a bottle of yquem 95 from the guy sitting behind me who didn’t like the whisky paired with dessert, bought the wine and didn’t want it all.

Wow! That was almost like watching a Sir Gary V episode. Amp up, Dude! Some of us watch about a week’s worth of episodes all at once so our comments appear a bit later than others.

QOTD: Yes, I like Sauternes, but I haven’t had much. I did have it with Foi Gras and it was amazing. I bought a half dozen of the half bottles of the Chateau Filhot you guys had and it is a really nice dessert wine.

I have had one bottle and it was pretty darn good. I see the count finally went over 1000. Hope you are in a better mood, but sometimes it’s OK to be a little down, it make us happy when things are better.

Yes I do and I was actually lucky enough to try a young Chateau d’Yquem. Pretty crazy stuff, I hope I get to try an aged version so day. Cheers

    Gary,
Thanks for this episode. I am a huge student of wine and one of the most fascinating things I find about it is the story behind every wine. This was a good teaching episode and I especially enjoyed your information about the history of Chateau de Fargues.
QOTD: YES, but it’s hard to find good ones at an affordable price

QOTD – Enjoy them, but have had mostly cheaper ones.

Tried to email Gary directly using that link after the Anniversary show…got shut out 4 times. Sorry Dude…you can only expect us to work just so hard before giving up. I will try again since I have a comment /concern to share with him.

    GV:
Sorry to see the glum mood.
You have to stick it out and show patience.
I am a professional and I travel a lot and therefore I catch up on WLTV in almost 2 weeks worth of episodes.
You had over a thousand comments by the time that I got caught up.
    So – just chill man!

Sauternes – love them. I had my first Sauternes at Restaurant Jules Verne in the Eifel Tower along with terrine de foie gras (pate to us yankees). My wife is not a big fan, however we have not had foie gras together yet.

Another to try is Pacherenc de Vic Bihl (spelling?) from SE France near the Pyrenees. Give it a whirl!

GV its 3/6 and I just finished watching this depressing episode. Like you, and probably many of people out there, I like games and find losing very displeasing. More so went the confidence is rolling strong. You can contribute the blame my direction, I didn’t even watch the episode due to my schedule. Maybe, that should be taken into consideration,… or maybe not. Damn lurkers!
QOTD: Have not had any Sauternes…

PS. Dry those eyes GV, we’re changing the wine world.

Hey Gary, I just didn’t understand the order you tasted the wines……..why from 1990 to 2003 and not the opposite????

Glad to see you did the show even tho in a mood.

    QOTD: Do love Sauternes.

    Thanks for the show!

QOTD: I adore desert wine, but I have only been lucky enough to try one Sauternes and it rocked my socks! Unfortunately the prices in NZ push wines like these out of reach of the average vino head.

Cheer up Gary, I am new convert to WLTV and love it!

Shooting you some love from NZ! Keep up the great show!

    Gary,

Just watched the show, what’s with the mood? You can’t let things get you down like that and not bring the normal GV Thunder that we all come back to see everyday.

Your passion and normal excitement is what really gets me into your shows.

Cheep up Gary!!! I know there are lurkers abound, but even though they are LAZY ASSES the fact that they still watch shows they love you. Great show, I love me some Sauternes. Ive never seen a Fargues anywhere, but hopefully I can find one at some point in me life. QOTD: I adore them….. I guess thats an unfair statement since Ive only had it twice, but the aromas and tastes were like… wow! Sadly a lot of the nice places ive gone to havent carried Sauternes, mostly ports and late-harvest types. Thankfully ive thrown some coin ( well, bills actually ) and cellared some d’yquem, Guiuard, Riessaic, etc. Cant wait to get married and pop em 15 years down the road ( or more ).

How can a wine with an obvious flaw (chlorine?) be rated 93?

Gary we love you and as of today you have way over 1000 comments on the 2nd year birthday episode.

QOTD: I don’t think I love them. I have not really had a boitris wine I have loved. It might hurt that I come from Canada and have the chance to drink great ice wines a lot. But I find them to be a bit weird. I love that you had swimming pool as a tasting note. About 3 months ago i was drinking a late harvest zin and I didn’t get the smell at night while I was drinking it. Yet the next day when I went for my swim as soon as i walked into the pool I realized what that smell was. Thanks for doing this show Gary, as a CKC I get to impress the girls with the knowledge I pick up from this show.
