QOTD 1: I’d love to be there, but the cross-sountry trek is more than I can afford.

QOTD 2: I’ve had an ok Oregon Pinto Gris (Panther Creek) and an ok Pinot Grigio (Salvalai) recently, but I’m looking forward to my next WL shipment with a bottle of Fantinel Tesis Pinot Grigio coming VERY soon, and maybe then I’ll have a proper answer for this one.

I love that you give white wines some R-E-S-P-E-C-T!

QOTD: Navarro Pinot Gris from Anderson Valley

GARY!!! I’d love to be there on the 29th, but I’m based in western MA. I’d really love to make it, but I know I wont get there any earlier than 1pm or so.

PLZ add me to the special later list!!!

    Gary,

I think that the main difference between Pinot Grigio and Pinot Gris is the market share and the growth of each category. Pinot Grigio was growing 5 times as fast a few years back and many wineries made the move to Pinot Grigio because they could sell more wine than if they use the pinot gris name.

Anyway, favorite PG is King Estate.

I’m definitely going to come, although I can’t stay all day.

I can recall a couple of good pinot gris/pinot grigios over the years. One was from Napa–I think the maker was Luna or something. I’ve had some good ones from Alsace. I have had many from Italy, but nothing stands out particularly. My experience with is grape variety is one of pleasant tastes, but never overwhelmed.

    Love the battles this week!

    Q1-I wish!!
Q2-Not sure on the Pinot Gris, however my wife and I had our first Alsacian Gruner Veltliner tonight and it rocked!!! Never would have tried this let alone known what Gruner was before WLTV, thanks GV!

    GV,
Thanks for bringing the cheese into the Thunder…..please, bring more to the mix with great wines.
I am not a big Pinot Grigio or Gris wine fan, but I love Tai food. However, your review of this Fantinel might change my mind.

Good episode…..keep the cheese coming..and please say which one the cheese pairs best!!!!!

Will not be able to attend. Work and such preclude this.

Have only tried one PG and cannot recall at this moment what it was. It was OK but I need to explore it further.

QOTD #1: No. Our grant has not come through yet.

QOTD #2: Warming up to the Pinot gris and grigios. Looking forward to finding a favorite soon. Had a Parducci (grigio) from Cali, which for less than ten bones was pretty tasty.

Love the head to head format GV.

QOTD 1: 3/30 is Shan-Dub’s 32nd… Maybe I can convince her that a great way to spend her B-day would be to visit the “Dirty Jers” and WL…

QOTD 2: Best PG I’ve had is one that my Father-In-Law made from purchased “Italian” juice (it could have been from Cali, NY or elsewhere, but you don’t argue with the guys in Pittsburgh’s Strip District). Really interesting bannanas and honey on the nose. Bone dry, but he didn’t rack it enough times, which left an interesting little C02 “frizante” that gives it a good acidic backbone. The most odd thing about it is that the finish is super long with bannana, pineapple, and pickled ginger notes. I don’t love white wines, but I find myself wanting to save some of this.

Sorry, not going to make it for the party, too may other trips this year.

I really liked the 2005 Wine by Joe Pinot Gris at a tasting. We bought some bottles and it was good but not amazing, but that’s the one that sticks out most in my memory.

We were also big fans of the 2005 J Pinot Gris.

QOTD 1: Wish I could, but I’d be fibbing if I said yes.

QOTD 2: Don’t have much selection here, I would have to pick one of the high volume brands, most of which have tasted the same to me. I did recently have the store brand PG from Whole Foods and found it acceptable.

QOTD1: NO! Phooey. If I had a million dollars, or half a million, or a quarter million, or heck, if I had $2000: I would be there! I am so jealous.

Also, I think you are going to be surprised by the hordes of people that show up.

QOTD2: Bandit Boxed Pinot Grigio! Oh yeah. No, I’m serious.

    We will be there 3/29.

I think your shows this week would be the best way to learn about wine: a side by side comparison. Unfortunately, I can’t afford to have two bottles open at the same time!

QOTD: I wish I could be there on 3/29, but sadly, funds say not.

    QOTD2: I don’t know pinot.

GV, I will be at the 3-29 event and will be brining a crew (12) with me in an RV….make some room. We will show up at 11am and roll out around 1pm

    Great show Gary!

QOTD #1: Since I live in So Cal, I won’t be making the Thunder party, however my wife and I are attending a wedding in May in Jersey City so we’d love to stop by WL if we get a chance. Have a great time on 3/29!

QOTD#2: Pinot Gris isn’t really my cup of tea so to speak, so no comments here.

  19. February 27, 2008

    MW_DM,IA

QOTD: Wish I could, but that’s quite the distance to come up with an excuse for traveling so suddenly. I’ll find an excuse to come visit some time.

    WineFellow

QOTD 1: NO, I will be at my fantasy BB draft that night. Hey, Gary is a fantasy geek too!
QOTD 2: I have been digging the King Estate Pinot-G (in da hizzee) lately. Lighter, with some dang tasty lemon curd flavors. Of all time, my favorite was a Gris from Preston Vineyards, waaaay up at the top of Dry Creek Valley in Sonoma. Go there, buy some bread, drink some wine, play some bocce.

  21. February 27, 2008

    Bill & Wendy Wilcox

QOTD1: Wendy and I are trying to get our schedules lined up to be down on the 29 March 2008. I’d say 50/50 chance… depends if I get a travel assignment or not for that time period.

Regardless, we enjoyed meeting you and the WL crew at the Boston Wine Expo a few weeks back and your cheese was great. Should be even better in NJ.

    QOTD2: No, not yet.

    Warmest regards
