QOTDs: I’m missing your party by 2 weeks. I’ll be in NYC on April 14th. I’m sad. I don’t drink very many pinot gris/grigios. I have found them to be mostly disappointing, but I’m willing to try again.

If we’re really quiet for the next episode (with cheese) we can listen to Gary’s arteries hardening. Be good to yourself.
QOTD: can’t recall the names but had a couple of great Pinot Gris from Oregon.

QOTD1: Trying to convince the better half that a WL party is a reasonable way to spend an afternoon. Did I miss some information on the party? Any ammo would help.

QOTD2: Can’t recall that I have tried much Pinot G.

Hey Vayniacs, its great to be back! It has been several months since the last time I made it to the site and watched an episode. I have had a crazy time starting a new job and moving to a new city. Anyway, you have been missed.

Ironically, this is the first time that I can remember ever trying a wine prior to it going through the “Gary Gauntlet”. I have had the Chehalem twice and found it to be quite refreshing and approachable.

Am I the only one that thought the Pinot Griggio looked and sounded like a Chardonnay/Viognier? To me it lost points because it seemed it was trying to be something it was not. Just my two cents…

QOTD: I live in the middle of a cornfield in Iowa, so unfortunately I will not be able to make it on the 29th. I have not explored the Pinto Gri(s)(ggio) world enough to have a favorite, but would say the Chehalem is worth a try.

Q(s)OTD: Nope, can’t make the party, though I wish I could. And I don’t think I’ve ever had a PG other than your basic Cavit. I did pick up the A to Z you tasted on Episode #312 – just haven’t popped it yet.

QOTD: Elk Cove Pinot Gris, not much to compare to though… I never looked at the vintage but I remember opening and pairing with scallops.

QOTD1: Yes, definitely making the LONG, ARDUOUS, and DEATH-DEFYING journey from MA which should accord me/us with VIP status, n’est-ce pas?
QOTD2: I enjoyed the A to Z Pinot Gris more than any other I have tried (from Oregon). Haven’t tried any from the Alsace yet, though.

    Cliff and Darcey

Coupla things, housecleaning: How, exactly, do you know what a sheep’s-butt component smells like?

    Orey-gone?

It’s a great labor-of-love for you to tape these programs ahead of time for us while you are gone: thanks GeeVee, we appreciate it!

QOTD #1: YES! Darcey and I will actually be in NYC that day, and it will be our last day! We are coming from Virginia (VA Tech area), so this is something special for us! If we can figure out how to get to you (we will have no car) from the Upper east Side, then back, then we’d LOVE to be considered as part of the 100 Vayniacs going out from 3 to 5! Maybe I’ll email you or one of your staff to get ideas of how to get to WL from the UES for that day! We’re very excited!

    QOTD #2: Don’t have a favorite yet!

Big G, Your Head to Head shows are fun stuff, but I do miss the 20 min + Episodes with 4 or more Wines. I guess when you get back from out of town.

QOTD: I wish I could be there, but only 4 days later I’ll flying off to Italia so only one long trip at a time.
QOTD: pt 2 I like Pinot grigios in the Summer, so I’ll let you know more then.

    Love the stinky butt cheeese.

    1. So tempting. A bit far.
    2. The only bottle of Pinot Grigio that stands out in my memory is from St Supery, and it’s one of the contextual bottle-affinities…dinner out with a good friend who freaked out a bit when her whole red snapper came with a face. We had to trade plates, which involved me giving up a pile of wasabi mashed potatoes.

Excellent episode – quite the battle.

And who got you the glasses, my friend? For an even better head-to-head do the Eisch Breathable Glasses vs Riedel. The Eisch glasses will blow the Riedels away.

    QOTD #1: No
QOTD #2: I’ve had some Alsace Pinot Gris – nothing to write home about and so many Italian Pinto Grigios that I’ve gotten bored with them at this point. I do prefer the northern Italian producers like Lageder and Tiefenbrunner.

Elk Cove from Oregon has made the best Pinot Gris I have had. I found I prefer the Oregonian style better.

Have you ever considered a live webcam broadcast from the Thunder Party, so the Vaniacs that are unable to be at the party can see the fun?

    Thanks for thinking about it………

  25. February 26, 2008

    George from NEPA

    Gary,

Gonna try to make it on 3/29. I would be coming in from PA (hence the name) for about a 2.5 to 3 hours ride so hopefully I will make it.
