Blame Canada!! The Weir Estate wines comes from Creekside Estate, a really cool bunch in the Niagara region. 06 was not a great year for Niagara, try the 05 Laura’s Blend or 05 Broken Press Shiraz from Creekside. Better yet c’mon up and see these guys!!

Yeah Canadian wine! You need to do one from St Catharines, which is right in the same area :)

When you said mourvedre was also known as Motaro I immediately thought: Mortal Kombat! Remember Motaro the ugly mutha with his whippy tail, hooves, and overall bad attitude? And then I could have sworn you said the nose had a heavy dose of violence instead of violets. Awesome.

You made me laugh out loud so many times this episode (favorite comparison: lanky 5th grader who is 6′9″ and can’t do a layup…I knew a lot of those types..).

QOTD: I’m obsessed with WLTV…but also facebook and blogspot. If you are into Pandora, you should check out LastFM. They have teamed up with Pandora to create PandoraFM as well. Basically, what they do is track what you listen to, whether on the Pandora radio, the LastFM radio, or even your computer player, like iTunes or Media Player, and feed it so you can share what you are listening to with your friends. So, for example, you could visit my profile on lastFM.com (clabuff) and see what I’ve been listening to recently.

I have a LastFM widget on facebook, too. It’s pretty sweet! Check it out:

Don’t feel bad, Gary. I learn a lot from the disappointments… probably more than from the winners. And when you are the one who is pulling the cork, it saves me the money.

As for Altesino. The better half and I visited them a few months ago on our Italy trip. They are great people. Very generous with their time and very humble. By the way, that winery is hell and gone off the main drag. I thought I must have been lost. Shame on you for trashing them! Just kidding. Keep it real. Maybe someday, you will visit San Francisco and we’ll pull the cork on a bottle of their ‘01 Reserve Brunello. Hopefully that will redeem them in your eyes.

QOTD: Internet obsession at the moment would be online comics (again).

Over facebook, bounce in and out of forums like you would not believe.

So much going on at the moment. Email is important, but WLTV is great for a little bit of a disconnect and refresh.

Gary, the vino might not have been great but the show was. Good to see the wine from the Niagra Peninsula, I was there last year and went tasting, they have some darn good juice up there. Still have several bottles in the basement.
QOTD- WLTV of course but I have been surfing Ebay alot lately.

Thanks for doing another Canadian wine. I totally agree – great, interesting nose, than a good academic wine – but missing a few screws.
QOTD – lots of wine sites; travel stuff

Not all wines have to be winners-otherwise, there is no excellence.
I have to disagree with Ben Janssen South Australia, who said, “Mate I don’t think you have the happy medium needed to score accurately wines from the old and new world.” You were quite clear about why you didn’t gush over this wine and told everyone to make up their own minds about “fruitbombs.” That is no less accurate an appraisal than reading Robert Parker or James Halliday and knowing their points of view. (Ben and d’Arenberg would probably be happier with their reviews.) Your honesty and consistency is what makes these reviews accurate and valuable. You save me time and money. Thanks.

QOTD: anything wine related, and eBay

These types of episodes are probably more useful to me than the super duper wines you have because it helping me develop my understanding of the wines.

I learn when challanged and these examples are challanges.

QOTD My obsession, other than this format is my firearms forum.

Greetings GeeVee … Just because the wines weren’t all you had hoped does NOT mean that ths show was not good, it was great! We NEED to see how you react, and it is especially helpful for wines you don’t really like … we learn so much that way.

QOTD: Don’t you know, Gary? YOU are my Internet obsession!

  24. March 4, 2008

Great show Gary. Even if the wines weren’t that great it’s your energy and humor that make it fun. We also use Pandora. It’s great isn’t it! Of course your show is also our internet obsession. Welcome back and have a great week!
