QOTD: Louis Bernard Cotes-du-Rhone-Villages. 70% Grenache & 30% Syrah. And I thought it was excellent.

Answer to QOTD: 2005 7 Deadly Zins, Zinfandel, Lodi, Cal. I can’t say it brought the thunder at all. The nose showed some interesting creamy, coconuty raspberry, but the pal turned into an awkward bitter-chocolate-trying-to-be-a-green-bell-pepper kind of feel. And great to see you back, Gary. Really great. Super great.

    QOTD: Little Penguin Pinot Noir

    GREAT TO SEE YOU BACK!

2006 von Hovel Oberemmeler Hutte Riesling Spatlese

Scents of grapefruit and oranges on the nose. A strong, but not sour, taste of grapefruit to start that tails off in a flavor that tastes exactly like lemon flavored tea.

QOTD: Pierre Sparr 2006 Riesling from Alsace. Rumblings of a little thunder off in the distance.

QOTD : Luna Di Luna Chard/PG Blend. Simple ’school night’ white that is inexpensive.

  7. March 21, 2008

    Russ J

QOTD: 2006 Fagiano Rosso Red Pheasant, a 50/50 blend of Barbera and Dolcetto from Piedmont. Really pretty good and only $6!

QOD: 2003 Alma Negra Mendoza Malbec/Bonarda. For me, it did not bring the thunder. Extremely dry and over oaked. Though I was looking for something different and this one fit the bill to be sure. Great packaging though. Could kill a rhino with the dense bottle.

    Welcome back!

QOTD: 2004 Byron Bien Nacido Pinot Noir; if an explosion of cherries, barnyard, and a little meat translates into thunder, then yes… I’d say it brought it in a big way!

Great to have you back, Gary. I missed my (almost) daily Thunder fix. QOTD: The last wine I has was last night; a Riesling from a small Naramata, BC winery called Joie, who make some excellent whites (if you ever come up here try their “A Noble Blend”). Off-dry, and very nice with the spicy mango butter chicken we had for dinner. Good wine, although I think their aforementioned A Noble Blend brings a lot more in the Thunder department.

Great to see ya back in the saddle again.

QOTD – Last wine I had was the 2005 Dusted Valley Vintners “H3 Horse Heaven Hills Syrah”. I had several bottles and need to start making room in the wine shelves for the new releases shipping/arriving soon. Wine was nice, brought some thunder but price is a touch high.

Great show Gary…good to have you back.

Your kosher wine show persuaded me to go and buy one and try it, and you know, it wasn’t that bad. In fact, it was darn good. Thanks for getting me to think outside the box.

QOTD: It was a Golan Sion Creek Red ‘06

Last wine was the 2006 Arido Malbec, from Mendoza in Argentina. $8 a bottle, bit of a fruit bomb, but really good QPR.

QOTD: Optimus from Swedish Hill Vineyards, NYS!!! It indeed brought the thunder!

Hey Gary …good show! Happy Spring (with fabreze!)
finished off last night 2003 Shotfire Ridge barossa I had away for a couple of years and it really really improved from the last time I had it… Delicious!!! I have a couple more bottles but wish I had more.

QotD is something “everyone should be able to answer”. Wow and yet duh. If you can’t answer that, your license to watch the show should be revoked.
Last nite: Mt Eden 1992 CabSav.
Speaking of license taken away, my wife presents it blind and I say 1995 Bordeaux. My drinking license should be revoked.

Glad to have you back GV!

QOTD: Rosemount Estate HILL OF GOLD Mudgee Cabernet Sauvignon 2003. Saw if for under 10 bones at Meijer of all places. It was decent… nothing mind blowing but for under 10 it was a perfect snag for a weeknight wine imo.

  18. March 21, 2008

    BruceP

QOTD: 2004 Walter Hansel 3 rows Pinot Noir.

  19. March 21, 2008

    Johnny Utah

Ramos Pinto 2000 LBV Port last night…23 Bones…beautiful silky texture, well balanced (the heat was contained), nice raisons and baking spices…definitely has aging potential, but is drinking nicely…good stuff!

    Welcome back GV!

ok, Gary, you’ve finally dragged me out from lurker status..
I’ve finally caught up to the huge backlog of shows, so I can comment on them in a more reasonable amount of time. Hopefully I can keep up and remain ‘delurked’.

QOTD answer: 2005 Geyser Peak Cabernet… it didn’t bring the thunder for me, especially for the price.

  21. March 21, 2008

    Kristen

Rock on GV! Keep rampin up the energy!
QOTD: Indaba Chard- Good QPR chard- I am diggin the SA wines lately- great valued every day wines that give respect to true varietal characteristics.

  22. March 21, 2008

    Justin Viger

Nice to have another real show. Not that the filler episodes were bad.

Question of the Day: 2004 Chateau Haut Perthus Bergerac and it did not bring the thunder.

    Welcome back Gary!!!

QOTD: Last wine I had was last night with dinner at home and it was a 2004 Marietta Cab. Sav. It brought the thunder to my husband and I!

  24. March 21, 2008

    Harry

I was drinking a Clos des Menut, Bordeaux, which despite being open on my kitchen counter for five days, still brought the thunder.

  25. March 21, 2008

    BSwanson

Last wine: Altos Las Hormigas Bonarda Mendoza Colonia Las Liebres
For under 10 bones, it definitely brought the thunder.
