Never been to Seattle, but I’ve been to WA many times, because I have family in Vancouver WA (right across the border from Portland OR). I was there was when I was a kid in 1980 & Mt. St. Helens had just blown her top. There was ash all over the streets and sidewalks, and I still have a jar of ash that I scooped up. Prior to the eruption I remember being able to see the mountain from the front yard. After the eruption, no top left on the mountain… had to stand on top of the roof to see the volcano. Amazing.

The Big Time Brewpub near the UW campus has a great university-town feel to it. Good food, great beers. Just two blocks away is the UW campus, which is one of the prettiest university campuses in the U.S., and I’ve been to a lot of different campuses. It’s like a big park, and a great place to walk around.

Ok, so why would one pay $24 for a Washington Loosen (say with me everyone Low-zen) consulted wine when you can get one of Loosen’s Erdener Treppchen Wines for $19, the 2006 Kabinett won the German Rieslingspreis (Riesling Prize). $24 for meh vs $19 for Ausgezeichnet ! Sorry, I am not THAT patriotic.

QOTD: I like the ferry rides to the islands. A unique PacNW experience. Afer that the food, then the wine.

QOTD: Seattle has to be my favorite place in WA, and probably my fave big city in the West. There’s this guy with a donut cart down in Pike Place and he brings me joy (and makes me five pounds fatter) every time I go. I also love the Walla Walla area for their Syrah prowess.

QOTD: When I was working for RCA inthe 70’s and 80’s Washington was part of my region that was based out of San Francisco. I remember vividly that on my first 7 visits to Seattle I never saw the sun. In fact, it got to be the standard joke. The Seattlites would always say, “You should’ve been here yesterday, it was 80 and sunny”. To which I would routinely reply, “It’s NEVER been 80 and sunny here on the same day”.

    Hi Gary,

yes, I have been to Seattle a bunch of times and always stop in to the Metropolitan Grill on 2nd St (Ave?). They have the best steaks, cigars, seafood, and anything else a hungry man could want. That is my favorite part of Seattle.

QOTD: Love Seattle and miss it horribly. Love it like GV loves manure and veggies. More, even. Still have a tiny condo downtown that I think of as my real ‘home’. Love being able to go downstairs (literally) to Pike Place, buy my fish from Harry at Pure Food, walk 4 or 5 hundred paces to Pike & Western Wine for a bottle of something tasty, stop at DeLaurenti’s for bread and olives as I walk back home…fix dinner and watch the ferry boats pass my window.
Did I mention that I really, really miss Seattle? But – I will be there next weekend for the first time this year! Hurrah!
QOTD 2: Why the hell did I leave there?

Great to see you out, about and obviously happy.

QOTD: Yes. The brother lives there. Will be back in the summer for his wedding. Like the trees and the water (and the tasty salmon therein)

Good episode, would have liked to see the east coast pull out the victory.

QOTD I have not been to washington, but my brother recently took a job out there wand would love to kill two birds with one stone.

Great show! Hope to get you to the Mile High city soon. I have never been to the North West yet, but hope to go soon. I have a some friends in Portland, so they will have a ton to taste!

Wow, this is shaping up to be an epic week! Awesome show! Again, I don’t get to drink much New York, but it seems like the west won this battle.

QOTD: Was in Seattle on vacation with my fam 14 years ago (Good Lord, I was 13). Cool city, the seafood market is really cool, and the meal in the space needle was pretty rad too.

Great Show GV, Thank-you for bringing the Thunder to the Pacific Northwest, now we just need to get you across the border into BC

Qotd: Yes quite frequently, due to the proximity to Vancouver. Favorite part of Washington is the Gulf Island, followed by the Gorge perhaps the most Magical concert going venue ANYWHERE. PERIOD… and as for the city itself I have friends in U-Hill and just enjoy the Neighborhood because of that…

QOTD: I live in Seattle, and I love this city to death. I love the diversity of the city, and the diversity in climate in WA.

Couldn’t make it to the meetup unfortunately.

I love this format for the number of wines tasted and the showdown, though I didn’t find it very exciting. I just couldn’t get fired up like like normal… maybe due to the large number of distractions, poor sound, and mediocre lighting (just some thoughts). I can’t wait to see the other stadiums! If I weren’t a lowly grad student, I’d hook you up at the horseshoe Gary!

QOTD: Haven’t been, but have heard it’s fantastic (and has been since the 50’s when my grandpa was stationed there!

So terrific to see you on the road! Thanks for sharing the Thunder from the Northwest! Gotta agree on the Patriots (BOO!) and although I haven’t been a NEW YORK any team fan, you’ve given me a whole new perspective. You Jets fans aren’t so bad after all…course we have DaBears which suck OAKMONSTER! Super Show! Feeling the Thunder! Want some of that Wiemer! YUM! Keepemcoming, we’re watching! GROUP HUG!

QotD: I’ve been wanting to go there for a while now, but haven’t made it out there yet.

Are you sure that wasn’t a backdrop and you were broadcasting from Newark! “Eat at Joe’s” billboards, trains and alot of noise. The “flight” you referred to was the jets taking off. Man that was loud. Other than that and the infamous “Not Available” it was a good show.

Bring out the German Rieslings to put a Blitzkrieg on the Seattle wines! :)

QOTD: No, I have not been to Seattle specifically though I’ve been to the Pacific NW, Idaho (Cour d’Alene) and Oregon (Willamette Valley) for some good Oregon Pinot. Some day, beautiful country.

    Have fun G-Man
