Gary, it was fun watching you dance the tightrope in front of Rob from Boudreaux, as you tasted his Cab Reserve live. But overall, ruthless honesty as usual.

QOTD: Who do I love more than anybody else in the world? My wife and daughter. They’re changing my world, and I like it! :)

maybe Gary will find some hot model and bring her on the thunder show so they can slather grapes all over their bum while laughing and reciting poems with excellent sexuality?

Very good show. Really like the live crowd. Hopefully the BC Okanagan Wine Festival folks invite you up sometime soon and I can sit in on one of these.

I got to taste the Gramercy Cellars Syrah at the Grand Tasting and I really enjoyed it – I think it is a little pricy but it is definitely going to open up nicely in 3 years or so. And Greg, the winemaker, is the nicest man alive!

Great show, Gary – I wish WA would have shown better. You and I know that Washington is pumping out some really great stuff!

QOTD: I love my family and my man like nothing else!

QOTD: Easy, my daughter. No one else is even close.

Hope you were referring to the 2004 regular cuvee of Boudreaux and not to the ‘transition wine’ (the 2003 that you had on your show)because that’s the vintage we all have.

After the revelations about grandma’s medicinal techniques, I think we’ll all take a pazz on any Vaynerchuk Family First Aid Kit that may show up alongside the olive oil and label lifters at Wine Library Stuff.

I loved the Boudreaux Reserve, but it’s a little out of my price range. I also appreciated that Gary can talk honestly about a wine when the winemaker is in the front row, about 10 feet away. Although Rob did bring out the foam Jets finger, so that probably bought him a few more points!

    QOTD: my family.

I’m off to New York on Monday for a few days. Sadly, no visit to New Jersey this time. Just the opera and museums and the Cloisters and Flute and Barcibo Enoteca and Rosa Mexicano. Hope to try a couple of new wines along the way.

    Gary,
People in the wine bizz love feed back (i mean real feedback) and you gave it to them, that is outstanding. America needs to chill out with the crazy prices. Napa is out of control, the rest of the countrty should start low than slowly rase there prices.

QOTD – Easy, My wife without her I would be in a gutter somewhere. She is my muse.

  57. April 12, 2008

    Winegrower

Great new locations for the show. In anser to your question: my wife, best friend, dompanion, lover it is no contest and I wish I could stay home more with her to be with her, but unfortunately the Social Security System takes out so much from my check that it steal hours away each day that I should be with my family and enjoy wine with them. I know this is not a political arena, but the government “do take a bite” and it interferes with what life is all about: relationships and that is what wine is about – relationship of terroir to the final product – wine. Keep it coming, you are doing a great job of educating the wine drinking public.

  58. April 12, 2008

    Winegrower

BTW Erocia drinks like Kool Aid, very easy drinking wine and I love it. I think you were a like hard on it, but true the QPR is ridiculous for this type of wine. Great Reislings coming out of Washtington, but the Cabernet Sauvignon are a bit pricey and fruity. Alexander Valley has the corner on Cab.

qod: interesting thing, noone has said they love themselves the most. You know yourself the most and hopefully try to make the most out of yourself. Also, if you can’t love yourself ‘to’ the most, how can you give the most? I think most people think they are selfish if they feel this, but I feel they should think on it.

Good show, Gary. I know it can’t be easy to be less than enthusiastic while looking in the face of the person who made the wine. You were honest and tactful, and that’s a great combination.

    Jimmyrice14

GV: love the Gotti pull…I just bought 6 bottles of the Boudreaux 05 normal cab and I’m hoping for a better showing at 50 bones than the reserve you tasted at 100…but I think it will take a few years to get there.

  68. April 12, 2008

    Kristen

Loved seeing the final blending session yesterday! It was really interesting…and great to hear that the juice is awesome! Hope you have a good trip back GV.

    QOTD: My wife!

After seeing a few of these I really like the live audiences, though I do think it’s a little odd to have the winemaker in the crowd, for either a positive or negative review. But otherwise, Gary plays well to a crowd.

  71. April 12, 2008

    Don Reynolds

QOTD: My wife is always first…but my kids are right there too.

QOTD: My husband and two girls! Wow, had I known you were in Seattle, would have made an effort to come see you.

Thanks for the Boudreaux review. I took the gamble and got the Reserve. I’ll definitely cellar it for a few years. Agree with you that the regular cab is outstanding….have a heathly stash of that. I also tried the ‘04 Merlot recently, tres yummy. Overall Newsome’s wines show such amazing structure. I’m a fan too, and can’t wait for the ‘05 release…bring it on!!!

  73. April 12, 2008

    Lawrence Leichtman

Couldn’t ever get camera 3 to come up for the blending session yesterday. This has been an interesting set of tastings. Not sure how I would feel as a winemaker putting my very expensive product up to be tasted live and then getting somewhat of a pan. 100 bones is way too much to put out for a flyer to me.

QOTD: My wife and two beautiful daughters, easy one.

Cougar Crest seems to do well across the board, they and N.C. are on my W2 visit list this October. I was hoping for a solid showing from Rob’s Reserve, I have a half case of his regular ‘04 Cabernet in the cellar and it’s a fantastic wine at $40.

If you get a chance, taste the ‘04 “persistance” from Reynolds Family Winery in Napa. It’s a Bordeaux blend with a little Syrah kicker, I was really impressed with this $40 bottle of bliss.

The end was awesome with everyone saying it with you. They had such a mellow tone though. It reminded me of when my parents used to drag me to church as a kid and we would have to read a long with and chant with the priest.

Great show, I really like the live aspect to it. Especially hearing the different opinions (raised hands) of people in the crowd.

  95. April 13, 2008

    RnD

Great show! Would’ve been interesting to have a second camera there with an insert showing the winemakers reaction as you taste his/her wine. Also, what would you REALLY say if you were in your office back in NJ.

no offense gary, but I don’t like the episodes in front of crowds because while you may still be honest, I sense a degree of hesitancy. That to me has a slight lack of truth tinge, not that you aren’t saying what you feel. Your choice of words are more protective and drawn out and guarded etc.

And to me, that is not who gary vaynerchuk is.

those are my straight up feelings.

Champoux Vineyard should not taste like this. I have multiple Champoux Cabs and have never had anything like this and for $100.00 I’ll take two Fidelitas Champoux Cabernets or three Januik Champoux Cabernet. Sorry but this was not what I would expect for that vineyard source and for that price.

Gary, good show. What’s up with the comments? Why the low numbers? Yes, a crap shoot with only 2 reserve wines made. Thanks for taking Mott with you on these trips, he didn’t look like he was having much fun sweeping the parking lot last time.

Great show – I’ve never had the Boudreaux Reserve Cab even though I’m on the mailing list (gotta call Rob). I have some of the Nicholas Cole in my cellar, but I don’t recall the vintage. I haven’t tried any as yet so I need to do that.

Great venue! I enjoyed the live audience. As you know, I am a huge fan of Washington State, so this tasting was right up my alley. I am still looking for the Boudreaux, but maybe I can travel to Washington later this year and find some.

Nice to see the reds show a little better. I got worried for your safety in that room when the whites were kinda meh. Hope you had a blast and plan many more trips to the Seattle area. Go to Cafe Juanita the next time youre in town. Trust me on that one. QOTD: My mom. Couldnt get through life without her. Aren’t mom’s the best?
