wowzers… i drank the 05′ la romanee’ myself around the same time last year that you drank it. !!! it was at the time…the greatest white wine i had ever tried…. the only thing that came with more thunder was recently … the 04′ bouchard corton charlemagnne and the raveneau 04′ chablis les forets !!

Good show once again and I agree completely on the 80s toys. Not even close to the way they were in the commercials. Way to break a kid’s heart, eh? I think I had GI Joe toys that just sat there because they wern’t any fun two days later. I had way more fun with my Fisher-Price tape recorder making crazy noises and pretend shows. Come on, you know you rocked that too! QOTD: Never had one. Again its on my to do list. Seems every wine you ask “What are you waiting for?” lately I havent tried. D’oh!

I loved your comment about 80’s commercials for kid products. I always got so pissed when I actuaaly bought something and it wasn’t anywhere near as cool as it was in the commercial.

Never had a white Burgundy! They are kind of too pricey for me right now. I can find decent domestic Chards (not too oaky) way more affordably.

Great show but it definitely gave me a huge shock when I saw the wines you were tasting. The Lamy Pillot wine is what caught my attention. I just got back from a tasting at the Lamy Pillot facilities with M. Lamy. Talk about weirdness. He is a great down to earth guy. He tasted us on about 11 wines and each one was very high quality. I tasted the St. Aubin you raved about and tasted the chassagne’s but the 2006’s not the 05’s. However the winery makes predominantly red wine (about 60% to be exact) and so we tasted a bunch of Chassagne reds and a couple Blagny’s (which is in between Meursault and Puligny). However the highlight of the tasting was a rather special wine. We got to talking about birthdays and what the vintage was like from that year, then M. Lamy went out and came back with a premier cru Chassage red from 1983! (which just so happens to be my birth year)He told us about the vintage and we tasted the wine and it was phenomenal. English peas and asparagus with leather on the nose, a finish that went on for days. A truly remarkable experience for me, since that was the first time I got to try a wine from my birth year. Get some of his reds if you can, great values. Good show and thanks for giving me the opportunity to share my amazing experience.

Thank you for this show, it just makes me realize I need to expand my thinking and taste of the French whites. We have so many great whites here in Cali, that I can’t even remember the last time I drank a French white.

I happen to live close enough to Burgundy to visit the region regularly (like every 2 years). Chassagne Montrachet has stolen my heart. QOTD: after watching this show, tonight I just have to open the 1999 1er Cru Les Caillerets from Bernard Colin. Bought it from the producer in 2001 for 15 Euro ($24) and it’s excellent value for money.

GV, here’s a question: In an appellation that’s defined by just 850 acres (or was it 830?), do you think the differences in today’s wines are the result of true differences in terroir within such a small area or by differences in winemaking after harvest?

I haven’t had a Chassagne Montrachet since the 70’s and I was completely wine ignorant then. It would be interesting to try is again but it was cheaper then, too.
