QOTD- Never had it and for my homework, I just recently had a Vernaccia fron San Gimiano although I will not have it this weekend I hope it counts.

I have been drinking Albarino lately because of you so I am expanding my palate when I can and it thanks me for it.

QOTD: I recently bought a Vinho Verde to try, so I might open that up this weekend. I’m excited about the Greco Di Tufo after watching today’s showand hope my new neighborhood Mega-Wine mart has some good offerings. I generally prefer Italian Red varietals though and think many are done well in the CA Foothills, but agree wholeheartedly that its good to keep your mind and palate open and try new stuff!

Thanks for another great show, Viva Italia!

Rubbery, smell the top of the bottle. what does the tin top smell like Gary? The tin can leave a smell on the top of the bottle. I always wipe off the top of the bottle before pouring the first glass. Test for everybody is to take the tin off. Smell the top of the bottle. You will smell the tin. Wipe off the bottle and then smell again. The tin smell will be gone. Maybe the tin smells like rubber?

Good show. I’m ok with the serious shows but this one was plenty of fun as well.

QOTD: I have heard of Greco Di Tufo but have never tried it. It is one that I would like to try along with so many others. I will drink an Italian white this weekend. I honestly don’t think I have had an Italian white so maybe I’ll try more than one.

I’ve noticed that you’ve been leaving out your “Ooooh this,” from your opening. Think about bringing it back. All I’m asking is that you think about it.

    QOTD #1: Nope
QOTD #2: Can’t think of any Italian whites that I’ve had so I can just grab any bottle.

Italians make a white wine? It’s time to “ene-mene-mine-mo” one.

    QOTD:
Like Mott, i’d never heard of it. So i’m pretty sure i’ve never tried it.

I drank a new italian white wine last night.
It was an Orvieto, and it wasn’t that good. But i’ll try and try another this weekend.

Interested to hear what ideas you’ve picked for the book promotion.

    Gary,
I just wanted to tell you are the man and that I really appreciate all the love and knowledge you give us. I am 21 and I have really developed my pallet by listening to your advice and trying new things, all the time. Also I have been watching for a while, like since episode 60 or so, which probley makes me the longest lurcher in Wine Library TV history. Also I am a member of the CKC and we love the show.

Giving me a difficult task. I’m trying to find a white from Italy I haven’t had. Have had several Greco di Tufo’s and I find the burnt rubber smell and taste in most of them and that is not a fan favorite with me. Will have to try the Vesevo as that is a nose profile that sounds good.

    Jens

QOTD: It might be a passito or a white Valpolicella/Soave. Am going to a huge tasting and among other things they’ll be serving a Bianco Secco from the famous Amarone-producer, Quintarelli.

Lol…when Gary was talking about how he was going to SHOW us how important this grape variety is (right before he sampled the first one), he was fiddling with the button on his shirt. I thought he was going to do a little “strip tease” on the show or reveal a massive Greco di Tufo tattoo on his chest.

But alas, he was just buttoning UP his shirt.

There are lobster purist… Being from the East Coast of Canada (Prince Edward Island), where many Islanders fish lobster for a living… When I eat lobster, as long as it’s cooked perfectly in salted boiling water, I prefer just eating it straight up. Rip that meat from the shell and chomp it down without butter or lime… Some people dip it in mayo.. gag me with a spoon. Best parts of the lobster for a “purist” : body, then tail, then claws… Back in the day on Prince Edward Island before lobster was recognized as a delicacy, they used to be seen as a nuisance that got caught in the fish nets… They would just be grinded up and used for fertilizer… When my dad and his buddies were kids they used to sit outside the fish/lobster plants and just gorge themselves on the lobster bodies being thrown away as waste… Times have changed for the humble lobster…
