Oh yeah… gotta agree with Malphas that its past time to move on about the #16 and Testaverde. Old news. That was 2006. Heck, the Giants have won a Super Bowl since then.
How about going retro and associating #16 with George Blanda? His 1970 season with Oakland was awesome. Plus he was the first player ever to score over 2,000 points and the oldest person to play in an NFL game: 48 years, 110 days.

Greco di Tufo can be quite good. But the rubber aromas are a big turn off for me.
Recently tried a Piemonte Sauvignon Blanc that was interesting. I also enjoy Orvieto. I know. Popular. Too bad. Can be refreshing wine.

QOTD: I’ve never had Greco Di Tufo and would like to try that.

A white Italian this weekend? I think I have any here and it’s looking unlikely that I’ll get a chance to purchase any, but I’ll see what I can do. Task Tuesday indeed.

QOTD1: Nope. I don’t recall ever having a Greco Di Tufo. Last year I had a Hungarian white that tasted like burnt rubber and just assumed something had gone wrong in the winemaking proccess.
QOTD2: No plans for a new Italian white this weekend, but instead a new Italian red sparkler – Banfi Rosa Regale Brachetto d’Acqui – is planned for a weekend dessert.

How many Vayniacs noticed that you had the Vesevo 2005 wine on your pizza show, #322? You scored it 90, commented greatly (heavily?) on the weight. Here’s the notes:

NOSE-beautiful Cantaloupe component; hint of Olive Oil; very pretty; almost a Rice Pudding aspect; TASTE-beautiful sour apples; Cantaloupe is singing all over your palate; great body weight; a heavy wine; great structure & complexity; very long finish; oil component is palate covering which I like; GV-90

I’ve tried a greco di tufo at a distributor’s wine tasting, but we haven’t purchased a bottle yet. Last night, though, Jeff and I had our first Albarino. Very nice! It went great with the Halibut and Greens we were having with dinner, and was nice enough to have a glass on its own afterward. We bought the albarino last week after seeing it in a local shop and saying, “hey, GaryV loves those!” :)

QOTD #1: yes, I tried one right after the last time you drank Greco di Tufo on the show. wasn’t that into it, but I promise to try more.

“There’s a little zingy zang zang zing zing on the finish…”

I love how you’re reflecting on and analyzing the episode before it’s even over…there’s one more wine Gary!

QOTD #2: I don’t know which one, but I will definitely try a new Italian white tonight when I hit Terroni on Beverly Blvd.

Nice, way to try new “unheard of” wines! I haven’t explored many different Italian whites, but I have had Trebbiano and Moscato d’Asti. Both were great!

QOTD1&2: No never have and I most certainly will try a Greco di Tufo. Sounds like it’s right up my alley!

Wow, GV you reminded me of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde for a moment raving about Victor then going on about honeybees and the pretty bouquet.

    QoTd
Don’t know that I have the $$ to waste on burnt rubber and the like. It may take awhile for me to find an Italian white, but I’ll try.

QOTD — I’ve had one, 2005 I Normanni Greco di Tufo. Objectively not bad, but I feel these are a bit overpriced for what you get.

QOTD 1&2: Never had a Greco di Tufo – plan to make it my try-a-new-white-wine this weekend.

Had never heard of GDT before today. Sounds like my style though and will seek it out soon. Any particular reason why the bottle style made me think you were doing red wines at first glance or am I just off base?

    Malphas

Dude, I understand your association with the number 16 and that Vinnie bloke, but come on already! Enough with the negativity! Please find something more positive to associate with the number 16 in the future.

“That Vinnie Guy” is a traitor, and he left an indelible mark on your appreciation and admiration of the New York Jets — I get it. Really, I do. But after four hundred forty-nine shows thus far, is there another Jets player (or whichever other sports team you support; I’m not a sports fan) who wears the number sixteen that does not draw your ire? If you’re in such a good mood as you’re introducing us to new varietals to help us expand our wine world, don’t ruin it for yourself with that brain association. Just find something new to associate with it, is all I’m asking.

You seem to follow pro wrestling. Ric Flair won the championship belt 16 times in his career. How about that, to start?

$16 U.S. can be a great value for new wine drinkers and collectors if the wine is up to snuff. It would really be nice if that point was supported with a more positive association as you’re making that important point, next time.

QotD: I’ve never heard of this varietal until today, so I’ll be sure to look for it in my travels.

    Free Mott? I’ll take it!

  23. April 22, 2008

    Harley Stan

Sweet show with a new varietal I have never heard of let alone tried, I will add it to my ever growing list of wines to try.
QOTD- I may have to put off trying a new Italian white until next week, I have a Pinot’s of the world tasting and dinner to go to which should be alot of fun.

  24. April 22, 2008

    brent

QOTD: I’ve been meaning to try a Tocai Friulano for some time… I’ll make an effort to pick one up on the weekend!

  25. April 22, 2008

    GrapeStuff

QOTD1: Never had a GdT – hadn’t even heard of it. Dont think I have ever seen a white varietal in a dark bordeaux bottle!

QOTD: Dont know if I have ever had a white from an Italian producer, so I guess ANY white varietal from Italy would fit the bill.
