    hahaha! 100 bucks!
QOTD1: I think I had Greco di Tufo by accident once, this was before I started writing down my wine notes, but at the time I thought it was a region or a blend.
QOTD2: As for what white wine varietal I’ll try next, we’ll I’ll definately try Greco di Tufo, but at this point, I will pick up anything I haven’t tried before. (Which leaves a lot because, I’m still a newbie)

I went in search of Greco Di Tufo. I came home with 2006 Taburno, Falanghina. At the store, they told me Taburno also has a Greco di Tufo but it wasn’t in stock today. Since I’ve never heard of Falanghina, I decided to go for it. I was told it’s tropical. I’m expanding my palate!! It’s definitely another direction from the Gigonda I had last night.

It was fun to see Greco di Tufo appearing once again!

The first time I sampled this varietal was when our tasting group decided to have a “Build Your Own Pizza” Wine Night and I wanted to bring some interesting new varietals. Of course I ran straight to the computer to see if you had any WLTV episodes which featured “Pizza Wines” and there was episode #322 in which wine recommendations for pizza pairing were offered. You included two of the same Greco di Tufo wines (Aminea and Vesesvo). I had fun re-watching the episode to see how closely your tasting notes paired with the 2005 Vesevio as it was the same vintage as that on today’s show (New Score is actually 1-point higher too)!

The Greco di Tufo wines I personally sampled were 2006 Terre Dora and 2005 Feudi di San Gregorio.

As far as an “untried” white varietal from Italy I think I may like to try a Soave this week.

    Great and informative show!

QOTD: I’ve never had Greco (I had trouble finding it at the liquor store up here) and since everything else was Pinot Grigio (almost not kidding, I think I saw a couple Chardonnays too) I grabbed a Soave…I’d never heard of it and it’s from Italy, so that’s my Italian white for the weekend..

  • QOTD Part 1: I had the Toricino Greco Di Tufo during the Super Bowl this year, it went great with teryaki chicken wings!

QOTD Part 2: I don’t know any other Italian wines. Next weekend I’ll look for something, promise!

You scored the same wine 90 points in Episode #322 (27.09.2007). Grats, quite consistent scoring. Got the message, I will seek it out and give it a try 😉

I’ve never had a Greco di Tufo.

A new Italian white varietal I just tried was made with the Kerner grape, Never heard of that one before! I wiki-ed it, and its a cross between Riesling and a red grape called Trollinger. The wine was from Alto-Adige. I think I’ve liked every white I’ve tried from that region.

When I saw that Aminea roll by on the this just in feed I put it on my wish list. Picked it up today and then started catching up on old episodes. I guess I’ll see what I think for myself. Should be interesting, usually the weight is my favorite part of drinking white wines.

QOTD: I can never remember what the question of the day is. My favorite Italian white was the 2000 Marina Danieli Colli Orientali del Friuli Pinot Bianco. I had it last year, any fruit it may have had was pretty much gone but it had a really great texture.

I’ve got that Greco di Tufo on the way so I’ll dive into that as my next Italian white.

QOTD #1: Yes, but it was recently and it was a 2002 that had fallen off a LONG time ago, so although the nose was somewhat exciting, the wine lacked acidity and structure and disappeared almost immediately on the palate.

QOTD #2: I could drink more Greco di Tufo, Falanghina, Grechetto, and Soave.

  • Very good episode, I’ve been keen to try a Greco di Tufo ever since you bigged it up in an episode last year.

QOTD 1 – Yes, but only one and only a week before this episode at a tasting – strangely enough it was the Vesevo (but 2007) and I thought it was delicious, very fruity and one of the best wines of the night, I’m glad you liked it as well.

QOTD 2 – OK, I didn’t drink a new Italian, but I did buy one….a Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi. I did have an Langhe Arneis for the first time 2 weeks ago.

I’m currently drinking a Santorini Assyrtiko which sounds EXACTLY like that 3rd wine you tried, the Petilia…. dry with a big rubber nose (!).

  • Well, I did taste a Falanghina last weekend! To attain the Wine Century Club certificate thing, I’m sure to try a Greco di Tufo some time.
Viewmaster – wow, they still make those!? I had one when I was a child (back in the stone ages). I used to poke out the scary slides.
