Great show. Love it when you have guests Gary, but only because you pick some good ones. Quality, not quantity please. She was adorable, totally. :-) BTW, I watch a lot of video blogs, most of whom were at SXSW, and everyone talked about you like you were the Pope or something. QOTD: I’m 44 and single, so obviously, I don’t have any that work…

Another fantastic show. Nice how you mixed in both the wine-specific side of things with the more overarching social/dating aspect. Nice. I’m sure that’s of interest to a LOT of people out there. By the way, it must have been fun to do that show with such a cute co-host beside you. :)

Twanna was a fun guest…great show.

QOTD: Neither of us has any great date tips…but we’re happily married anyway.

I don’t have any more first date moves, but if I was single and needed some, the first person I’d go to would be FBC (aka “Pink Panther”) who seems like a lot of fun on the second and third date too..

Regarding the comment about a guy ordering Rose’ on a first date…I may think “wimpy” too but I had a date who said how about we start with a Rose’ or a white, then move to a Red, any maybe have a White with dessert..I thought that was really cool.

QOTD: My advice to guys when taking a girl on a first date is to have a plan..nothing worse than “so what do you want to do?”. I would suggest asking her what kind of things she likes to do and throw a few things ideas out there. If it’s dinner, that only last so long…now its 10:00 pm and you both dont want to go home..what do you do? Have some ideas planned and let her choose = ) (ex: coffee/dessert place, take a walk, etc.) Dates dont always have to be dinner, but I’d suggest getting something to eat at some point on the date. My most favorite recent date was in NYC, brunch and then walking around a museum (MOMA), then a coffee house afterwards.

Awesome show, but where are the girls in this comment page? I only saw one comment left by a girl, EllenKF, who obviously has a strong opinion on rosé wines. She sees a guy that orders rose wine to be a whimp – which makes no sense at all, just because it’s pink? You have to come up with a better reason than that. However, this does show that no two women are alike, which bring me to the \

QOTD: A first date move that may work well on one girl will not always work on another. The best thing to do is to find a balance between being confident being yourself, even if that means asking your date if she would like to experience a rose wine that you have never tried, and all the while minding her personal preferences and reactions to things you do and say. Just keep in mind, you can’t always please them, but at least you can try.

Hey, it worked for me, and now I have a great girl that I am always happy to please.

at the beginning, i thought the idea is impressive as often people associate wine with a certain degree of romance. However, if you are to bring someone on the show to talk about wine and romance, you should have brought someone who at least understands how to drink wine. she obviously isn’t really well experienced with wine. but good try tough.

Cool episode where was it ten years ago when I could have used it?
QOTD- If I was picking a girl up at her parents home I would bring flowers for the mother. Cheesey, but it got me in good with mom

    Awesome episode, love guests.
QOTD I would say it depends on the situation, but I would say I love food and wine so even if a date kinda tanked I was happy to go out

Awesomeness was had for all, again!

QOTD: Ask the guard to remove my handcuffs, that’s the first move. After that it’s all up in the air.

no but seriously, I totally agree that the “move” has to be transparency and the adherence to the “no rules” rule. Be yourself, be in the moment and try to create a relaxed environment for your date.
Oh, and Persian Food with belly dancers is always hot.

This QOTD makes me feel old and I didn’t think being 33 was that old. Maybe I’ve been fooling myself. Or maybe I’ve just been married for so long I don’t remember first dates. And maybe that’s not a bad thing at all. Wow…that’s quite a conversation I just had with myself there. Good show. I want to be on the show too.

Great show – excellent guest – let’s have her back again.

    QOTD: flowers on first date.

always fun to have a guest show!

i have forgotten more about dating than you two will ever know. been in the trenches for more than 30 years now.

here is what i know: it is never about the guy. don’t wrap your arms around the male delusion thinking if we are (pick your descriptor) cool enough, rich enough, good looking enough, smart enough, suave enough, whatever enough we can get a woman who isn’t generally interested @ that moment interested in us specifically. this isn’t how it works.

you are much better off determining which women are ready to party and then just going out with them. then just be yourself and women will overlook whatever faults you may display; readily rationalizing your deficiencies as they are ready to be taken. you will also waste a lot less money dating this way.

always remember marriage is the is the triumph of imagination over intelligence.

I’m from the Central Coast area and have been drinking Treana for several years now, since before the price point drop, and I thought even then it was well worth the money. All the treana whites are great. Reds aren’t too shabby either.

Seriously, on a first date, if a guy ordered a rose, it would be a sure indication that a second date is not in our future! Pink wines are cute, can be interesting, but they are totally wimpy! Are you with me, girls?

  21. April 25, 2008

    Nick R

QOTD – sense of humor is everything

Gary – good episode BUT to me, sparkling wine is THE ultimate date wine. sparkling/champagne is 1) very food friendly (2) signifies a special occasion (3) white wine and easily likable to any palate (4) you can always find a few on ANY wine list that will be good.

A good first date is something event driven like a outdoor concert. The kind of thing where there is alot of energy to feed off of and drive the date and conversation in the right direction.

Woah! Cute cute cute. Brown sugar in the house. More ladies on the thunder show, please. And good wine line up. I have a group blind date tonight and I’m bringing a riesling (thinking about the ladies). Wish me luck Vaniaks!

That was one of my all time favorite Thunder Shows! My wife thinks you should have a chick on your show more often!Totally. First date tip: be yourself, but a little humor once in a while doesn’t hurt.

Best first date move? Well, aside from just being myself, it would be to make sure she knows that she is my focus, what’s most important to me during the date. Not the game on TV, not my phone, not the admittedly gorgeous waitress… but to look my date in the eye, be genuinely listening to and interested in what she says, is nice and speaks volumes for how I feel — and how I want her to feel.
