I’ve always found a few playful insults to work remarkably well if you can weather the initial storm.

Justin Winery!!! I think they are the winery that comes up to Rainy Pass Lodge during the Alaska Iditarod which makes them instantly desirable for me, being an Alaskan.

QOTD: It’s been so long since I’ve been on a first date. From what I remember, Steve and I would usually go to the local coffeehouse for dates. It was nearby, inexpensive and one of the most interesting and relaxing places in town.

QOTD: I recently took out my girlfriend to a great wine tapas restaurant and I asked her to pick out the food and I will pair it with one wine that will best pair with all of them. She loved it, I loved it. The Sommelier loved it because I got him involved by judging my wine choice. Basically, we both were involved in the decision and lets just say we had a wonderful evening.

QOTD: Nothing better than the big smile and the “you look great” comment. Great guest

Great guest, Twanna was really relaxed and comfortable alongside you – unlike some previous ones who seem overawed or, worse, tried too hard.

QOTD – You’re asking the wrong person, my dating history was limited and unsuccessful, and, luckily, unecessary for the last 11 years.

Great show…i liked hearing you give instructions on how to taste the wine better…how to train your palette…we need to know.

I liked your wine choices and reasons, Barbera is very under appreciated, but would have liked to seen some tips on how to behave with wine to impress your date, or at minimum to show you’re not a loser.
ie. how to hold the glass, to stop saying “I love wine”, some different varietals to bring up so you’re favorite wines aren’t Chardonnay and Cabernet, etc……the only tip we got was not to get drunk on the first date….pretty lame!
qotd I think a wine bar is good place for a first date because it can last as long or as short as you want and normally the atmosphere is more fun than a restaurant.

ps. please ask the funky brown chick on what date it is ok to f*cky f*ck

In 1973 I took her out to play tennis, then the next date we went out and had Almaden Mountain Nectar. A bit of a rose, but probably a white zin! Who knew what was in it? She loved it and we didn’t drink too much. Married thirty years now. The drink today is an Oregon Pinot Rose or a Bandol Rose to impress her all over again.

Super show, you have done well picking guests. Anyone who says guests always make the show better are not paying attention. They just make it different.

QOTD: I have no idea. Thank God my wife fell for it anyways.

Good show, I like that you kept the budget tight, and I almost like that you avoided bubbly. Although bubbly is great food wine, so I almost don’t like you avoided bubbly. Guest was great, I may check out her website to see if I can surprise wifey sometime.

QOTD: When I still went on first dates – eight years ago? – I liked to go to coffee shops because they’re quiet, you can go in the afternoon and there’s no pressure to extend it if it’s not going well.

My first date with my husband led to us closing down the place after many hours. He was (is) a keeper!

Central Coast shout out – yay Justin!! They do really awesome work for cancer research, GV, you should read about their fundraising efforts – it’s a great story. http://www.sanluisobispo.com/business/v-print/story/284600.html

Two thumbs up on Justin and the Paso shout-out!!

QOTD. I like doing things that aren’t typically first-datey and that I’ve never done before…like surfing or rock climbing or going to a demolition derby or something fun and random and out of the ordinary.

Loved the show today. As someone who is just getting into wines I liked having someone who was just getting into them on the show as well. Especially when you helped her taste the last wine. Us noobies could use more tricks and hints like that.

    Thanx for doing the show.

Lo and Behold, she is now my wife x 23 years.

I like the chemistry on this show! Way to ratchet it up a notch Gary! Book selling tip: Sell a book and a bottle – and make every 100th bottle be something special…
Thanks for all the hard work and passion Gary; You are inspirational.

Great Show Gary, Guest was great also. Was pumped that you did the Treana. That is one of my all time favorite white wines.
QOTD: Have been married for 25 years, don’t even remember what a pick-up line is anymore.

  25. April 26, 2008

    lovecups

I say that you should just pick a few things that you are really interested in and ask her if she wants to do one or two of those…that’s your best bet…if she isn’t interested in the things you are then the relationship is doomed from the beginning…and that is a good way to find out…It can also be really fun from the girl’s standpoint if they are things she doesn’t usually do…like fishing…or softball…or going to an art exhibit or whatever it is that floats your boat. Dates are about learning about each other, so just be you.
