A great band from the Boston area – The Grownup Noise.

    QOTD: I recommend… DECAF!!!

    George from NEPA

QOTD: What would I recommend to you, good question. Well you seem to like to think about life often. Are you into Philosophy at all? I would totally recommend reading some Nietzsche or Socrates. You are totally the opposite of the Allegory of the cave. Check it out and let me know what you think. Also, speaking of books, one of my former professors edits the series XXXXXX and Philosophy. He has a huge catalog of stuff like The office and philosophy, matrix and philosophy, baseball and philosophy. Puts a spin on different pop culture things and how you can really get more out of them. That is if you want to.

    Take care man.

GV, Thanks for the 30th Anniversary shout-out–awesome.

QOTD: Oriel Prosecco, and if you’re gravitating back to some Zins, I enjoy Michael Chiarello’s Napa wines–might be too much of a fruit bomb for you. Also a Zin from Columbia Valley–Newburgh, Oregon—”The Pines 1852″. We had the 2001–more your style. Reminded me a little of a Neyers Zin.

Wow, J-E-T-S got a great pick with Vernon Gholston. Good call…and the Vaynerchuk cameo streak continues…

Oh yeah, great show too. Can’t wait for my Secret Pack.

I recommend the self-titled debut album from “Hercules and Love Affair”.

Another good one Gary……lotsa stuff going on. I would like to recommend a Crios de Susana Balbo Torrentes. Or…………….just bout anything else that she produces.

i recommend a frozen yogurt place called pink berry. i think they have them in new york but if not come to southern california, do a book signing and try some while your here! it’s tart like yogurt is supposed to taste, not sweet and sugary and the toppings are excellent. also if you come to orange county visit a very cool store, hi times wine cellars in costa mesa.

    Hey Mr. G.V.

Thanks for today’s show – nice “vibe” :-)

QOTD: I am sure you know of Pingus, but if my memory serves me right you have not tried it on WLTV. I have tried Pingus once, and it is definitely one of the very best (new generation) Spanish wines I have had – but it IS quite expensive! A GREAT alternative is Flor De Pingus – the 2. wine from the producer. I believe you get 70-75 % of the taste, at 1/10 of the cost!

So my recommendation is: Pingus and/or Flor De Pingus.

(The producer is Danish, so for that reason I do think of it, as something a bit special :-)

Now when I have the chance, I will dare to recommend just one other wine to you – I was at a particularly interesting 96′-champagne-tasting about one year ago, where I tried the Fleury Pere & Fils 1996. It stacked up amazingly well against the big producers, such as La Grande Dame, Cuvee William Deutz etc., especially considering the low price point.

…So my second recommendation is: Fleury Pere & Fils, in a good vintage (1990,1996 etc.)

I hope you will find these wines worth trying…

this copied and pasted from the New York Time’s draft coverage…

Jets fans are clearly the loudest bunch here, and they seemed to approve of this pick, chanting Gholston’s name before and after the selection. With Ryan and McFadden already taken, the Jets’ choice became less interesting. But Gholston seems to be a perfect fit for the Jets’ 3-4.

    QOTD:
I would highly recommend Epoch Estate Wines from Paso Robles (although you can’t buy them yet). This is a new winery which is destined to be a cult classic. I have heard that some of the big names in cult wines from the central coast have been barrel tasting & are blown away with the quality. Their website is supposed to be up next week before Hospice du Rhone. Get signed up before it’s too late!

Ruff! Ruff! What Lassie? Timmy has fallen down the well?! Ruff! Ruff! Gary has stolen the Afekomen?!

Gary look at my name! HA! HA!

    Happy Pesach!

stellar show Gary, about your great grandfather Shaya we can certaintly appreciate because my wife Anastasia moved from russia to virginia 4 years ago. You’re definitely in a kinda different mood, but all in all a very up-beat show. Good Job. QOTD: Sassoregale, Maremma Toscana, 2001 $13.00 Great stony, leathery blackberries and licorice; well balanced, great price-point.

  14. April 26, 2008

    Yamashtashta

QOTD: 96 Dom Dujac Clos de roche, 01 Cocito barberesco, and 04 Grammona grand cuvee cava. All solid as the ground that they rose from. I also recommend reading the Atlantic magazine about R. Parker. Search the archives. I think its December 00. It is worth the time to have a little undrstanding of one most powerful consumer critics ever.

Good show…always like to hear that there are more wines comming out of Yakima as I used to train there.

QOTD: I reccomend that you take Lizzy on a vacation up to Maine for a few days this summer…eat some Lobster and enjoy a few Smog-free days…

  16. April 26, 2008

    Silas

    QOTD:
Come to Memphis, TN. Go to Erling Jensen’s Restaurant. Get the duck and a glass of good merlot. That combination is made of win, sir.

Great show. I love to find little gems like Pomum. It usually happens when you tour wine country checking out whatever you come to. I am currently having fun trying to taste wine form all continents. I am relatively new wine, so there are many flavors and aromas that I still need to experience. Gotta love the
homework! Trying a Falesco Umbria Merlot tonight.

    Jarvis

QOTD: If you are ever in Seattle again you have to try Dick’s restaurant. Its a local family owned fast food restaurant. I would recommend that you try a deluxe, the fries and the shakes.

    Aaron Weissman

Gary; first, waxing melodic over the bread of affliction? I have never tasted a piece of matzah I liked. After a week of the stuff, I know why Moses cried “Let My People Go!”

As for QODT, I have really fallen for Bethel wineries Pinot Noir. Bethel is in Oregon, just off I-5 around Corvallis.

  20. April 26, 2008

    Derick

Yep you were definitely on ESPN for the draft and you look like every other dumb drunk Jets fan. The Jets made a good pick even though Gholston is over rated, but I guarantee the Dolphins will be Super Bowl champs again before the Jets will. GO PHINS!!!!!

  21. April 26, 2008

    Jack

    Three things
La Selvaccia Brunello 1999 34 bones
    Neal Family Cabernet 2004
Also, 1989 Kenwood Artists Series Cab

    Kristen

Definitely a different show, but a good one nonetheless GV! That Pomum sounds incredible, hope I’ll be lucky enough to get some bottles in the future.

QOTD: 2005 Alma Rosa Chardonnay or the 2005(?) Alma Rosa Pinot Noir. These guys kick it! Plus, start watching LOST- it’s super addictive this season. They’ve certainly brought the thunder back!

  23. April 26, 2008

    Joe G.

I saw you twice during the draft and you totally nailed with the Vernon Gholston pick

  24. April 26, 2008

    Mark Manning

For what it’s worth, if your fans haven’t scored any 2005 Pomum Syrah already, they ain’t gonna. The nice folks at Pomum told me by email this morning that they’d just sold out.

  25. April 26, 2008

    Chris

Ha just saw you and your brother a couple minutes ago on ESPN…keep up the great work Gary!!!
