Great show, Gary. I’ve read about Cornas in a few books. I rarely see it though given its old world style and aging. I just elucidated one from ‘99 and hope it won’t be too young.

QOTD: What about having a ‘wine of the month’ club? One wine, you pick it. Viewers have a standing order for the wine to be shipped out, and you add it to one of your shows each month. How fun would that be?

BTW, I’m a wine library newbie. Watched a few in the past, but I’m getting hooked now. Great show!

QOTD: So far, your show is keeping me informed and inspired. The idea of maps seemed possible, if kept to a minimum. For most people, simple is good. But for some of us sommelier-inspired chaps, we realize the efficacy of knowing geography, climate, geology, agricultural techniques, biochemistry, etc. And you can throw in history, biography, economics, too. The stories behind the wine, the personalities, the panache, the rags to riches, et al. All contribute to the romance and the appreciation of a rather complex, multi-layered reality known as wine-making. Take the complexities of any Haut Medoc appelation and geometrically progress those vinicultural conundrums and you begin to see a metaphor for what is a very exciting learning field, namely the world of fine wines.
Increase your ‘hang time’ Gary. Looking forward to you on Conan again…seems like a nice ‘guyot’!

    Good show, ta very much!

SQOTD-1, nope, for obvious reasons, SQOTD-2, nope, neither.

QOTD – You’re doing it with shows like this, – a new area for me, and a chance to see what’s on offer before I (inevitably) buy.

    Hi Gary

I’ve watched all your episodes of winelibrary tv and thought it was about time to leave a comment (it took me 350 episodes to figure out what a “lurker” is though..:) Thank you so much for doing this and thanks for your shout out to Norway.

    QOTD: Keep on tasting. Suggestions:
    1. Cornelissen Magma and Occhipinti Frappato from Sicily
    2. Other ultra biodynamic producers?
    3. What about some horizontal flights of Bourgogne (Montille?)?

    Thank you very much

What can Wine Library do for me?

You could do a special on homemade kit wines or review the audiences personal homemade wines?

    Gary,

QOTD 1: Going to try to make it the book signing, boss might not like that I need to live early though.

QOTD 2: Got to have both a red and white Fixin this weekend, both 2005 Domaine Joliet Pere & Fils whose wine maker is Philippe Charlopin. Really good new style.

    G. Note,

First time, long time…lovin’ the way you throw it down.

    You asked I’ll tell ya….

QOTD – Help me in the continuing struggle to put another small, but delectable wine area on the map…Canada. Okanagan Syrah, Niagara Pinot, ubiquitous icewine and kick ass Riesling, just to name to a couple of true gems in this fair nation. If you are at all curious about either area and what to hit up and what to avoid…just lemme’ know (I’ve worked as a renegade sommelier in both areas). Overall just keep doin’ what you do. Much respect, and know that there are others out there helping take the pretention out of wine, and putting sheer delight back in it. Cheers, JAH.

    QOTD:
Always a difficult question. Growing up in the mid west in a large extended family I was taught it is better to give than receive. I enjoy the; web page, search engine, service. I guess the ratings comes to mind. I understand you need WS, WA, etc., to sell wine. I would rather you would rate in a new world (vs?) old world format BUT since your father started out as an employee not speaking english just a few decades ago and now have a multi-million dollar business and the internet’s most passionate show do you really need/want “tips” from me…I don’t think so.

WLTV please make available to North Carolina, a greater, quality selection of “reasonably” priced wines. And, nope. Sorry wont make it to NY for your book signing. How about signing a bunch and sending to the WLTV Fans?

QOTD: Taste kvass with Sasha as I so impressed they are now in US. I miss the kvass sold from tanks served up in reusable glasses that I used to drink as a student in Kiev. Maybe a May Day theme to honor USSR immigrants and their contribution to our nation.

QOTD: Gary I love the education episodes but could you add maps of where the wines are from. I think that will add more thunder to an already thunderous show;-) So much thunder I am ducking and covering just thinking about it.

Thanks buddy great show, keep them coming.

Great show – I’ve been curious about Cornas for a long time. I bought one a few months ago, but it was a faulty bottle – : (

QOTD # 1 – You finally got me. I’ve never had a Fixin or a Quincy.

QOTD # 2 – I hesitate to respond to this one b/c you already do SO MUCH, but there is one thing that I would really like, even though I know you already do it sometimes. I would like for suggested food pairings to be a more consistent part of your reviews, both b/c that is an important question for me, and b/c your suggestions can tend to be somewhat unorthodox/more interesting than most “clasic” pairing suggestions that I regularly come across. Thanks for everything, and keep up the awesome work!!

Darn it Gary! Why can’t I buy wines from you? What’s the deal with WI? I can’t find these wine anywhere either. It’s rough being a Wisconsinite sometimes.

Yo G , ’bout time Ya cracked-out some Cornas in da Hizzy!!
    GRRREAAAT SHOW !!!!

QOTD1: When Ya gonna do a San Diego Book Signin’ Gig?? i’ll make dat one!

Qotd2: Had a Fixin or two a looong time ago, when i first started gettin’
into da Vino. Was a real Red Burgundy Nut for awhile, but eventually got
a likin’ for da Calif/Oregon Pinots.

QOTD3: What can WLTV do fer me??? Open-up a Wine Library out here in
Southern California…… Maybe send Mott out here, to run da Joint!! :)

Qotd: You can recommend a wine to go with watching a NBA death match! The young and energetic upstart team of the Hawks head to the future World Champion Celtics’ Arena up in Bean Town, USA tonight for a battle royal 80’s style. I’m thinking that Cornas would be the ticket…

And yes i have had a Fixin and i have also been to Fixin…absolutely beautiful!

    Hi Gary,
Very nice episode on Cornas which I like a lot. Here in Lyon, 100 miles or so from Cornas, the wines are still pretty rare and expensive. Fans of “new style” Cornas should try Matthieu Barret’s wines (domaine du Coulet), very modern and enjoyable even young, less oaky than some of Colombo’s wines like Terres Brûlées (he uses only 7-year-old barrels or older).
QOTD: Well, keep educating… and entertaining everyone here. It’s so much fun to watch your show. Maybe you could use this book about the pronunciation of wine-related foreign words you got some time ago a bit more often, but it really doesn’t matter!

  23. April 30, 2008

    Robin C

    Anxious to try Cornas.
QOTD: You’re pretty much doing it. Loved the wine bar episodes and home storage – nice to see what other people are doing in their homes and in their wine bars.

    Dale Cruse

Ask not what Wine Library can do for you. Ask what you can do for Wine Library.

QOTD: I had Fixin this past Friday night at my Pinot Noir party!

Cornas is tasty goodness too! Can’t wait for Gary to feature Tavel on The Thunder Show!

    Lawrence Leichtman

You are already doing it. You have answered dozens of questions for me. You bring new or little known wines. What else would I want. Ah Italian Rosatos at Wine Library. Still looking.
I drank a lot of Cornas in the past but stopped because they take so long to age into something great and the investment keeps going up and up. I mean Hermitage is as big or bigger and that investment keeps going up. As to Fixin, of course as it is the cheaper version like Santanay of Burgundy and often crosses into the Beuajolais price ranges.
