QOTD: I’ll be simple and mainstream. Corona.

    Cephalopunk

QOTD: Dogfish IPAs are my daily drinker… although I have an increasing respect for Flemish reds… they can balance the malt and acid awfully well. Leffe, Anchor Steam and Spaten all are widely available and very good in their respective fields.

Sixpoints does some great stuff here in Brooklyn.

I’m a bit of a fickle beer drinker. I suppose the truth is I don’t appreciate in the way I do wine. But if my doctor’s orders were reversed and I could only drink beer, I guess my choice would reflect the same fondness for sweetness, and I’d usually choose a Rickard’s Red. “Candy beer”, my friends sneer. “Training beer”, my ex-boss used to laugh. For a change-up, I enjoy an occasional Stella Artois.

What a nice guy you are, GV! You get a guest on the show, and then have his favorite wine, and a few more of a grape that he likes… What a guy! Great show, enjoyed the guest.

QOTD: I could go for Sam Adams Honey Porter, Samuel Smith’s Imperial Stout, or a Guinness. Any of those would make me a happy man.

Also the local ,and very interesting, Surly Furious. Surly is a Minneapolis brewery and they make very unique beers. To me, The Furious tastes like Grapefruit cider.

QOTD: available everywhere, but I would say Newcastle Brown Ale would be my choice.

Gary, I loved this episode. You had a Conan with Andy Richter thing going (my favorite Late Night with Conan era, of course). I would love to see more guest appearances. Even this same guy (he was an awesome compliment to your crazy personality). I also liked hearing multiple explanations of aromatic and flavor profiles.

That was such a fun show and it really brings home what WLTV is all about.

QOTD: apart from Whit Beer from Holland, there are soooo many English Ales that are just so tasty and good. There is a time for stouts too.

I live in Des Moines, and was shocked to hear you talking about coming. I would totally be there.

The bookstore they’re talking about having you at is an awesome local spot, and the city itself is becoming really cool in recent years, believe it or not.

So… Add me to the list.

Awesome show. I loved the look of surprise on your guests face when he walked out of the elevator, classic ! I think that having a guest on helps you get the points across of how important it is that trying new wines can really expand your palate and lead you into trying wines that you wouldn’t have had otherwise.

Qotd: My go to beer is Widmer’s Drop Top Amber out of Portland, Oregon.

Great show, Gary! You inspired me to try another Aussie wine. I started to feel like I was gambling money in Australia, since almost half the wines I tried were way to sweet/alcoholic/fake for me, so I’ve been spending lots of time in France. I tried Yard Dog Red 2006, and it was beautiful. Very fruit-forward, with smooth tannins. A little overripe, but dry, with excellent acidity. So excellent in fact, I checked the label…55% Petite Verdot! the rest is Cab with a little merlot. PV baby, PV!

Anyhow, it carried the %15 alcohol surprisingly well, and the nose was satisfyingly complex – smoky, jammy, minty, and spicy. I’ve paid twice the 10 bones it cost for lesser wines in Aus.
