  • QOTD: I've been to France. But would love to go back. However, I expect to go to Chile very soon for more than just the wine. Fascinating and beautiful country.

QOTD: If i'm flying I might as well visit De Martino in Chile. Their 2006 Single Vineyard Maule Valley Malbec was the first red wine that made me realise the quality that wine in general can have, and for only £11 ($18).

so yeah i first saw gary on that mad money appearance and then missed him when he came to des moines :~( oh wellz

qotd: dunno I keep trying new things and finding things I like so I'm not able to narrow that down because I still feel like I'll find something better soon. If I had to pick one right now it'd probably have to be to Chile.

God these tastings make me jealous. I want to be in on the action! I want to smell the poo!!! QOTD: Bourdeaux. Stock answer? Probably, but I think it would give me a great chance to expand my palate on reds and also cause I love me some rich foods and Sauternes. France for the win!

Gary- been out of the game for a long time, been missing the show for a long time because I've been too busy. We openned the first we've had of the two secret packs (I got both for my birthday) the Riojo tonight and watched the show. Before we watched it we were drinking the wine and I was like this really smells like poop. Spot on, great wine, great show I need to come back to the fold.....
  • Eduardo
Hi, I´m Eduardo your friend from Argentina. I don´t know if you ever gonna see this comment because it´s been a long time since this show happends, but the winemaker of the PETITE FLEUR is our friend MICHEL ROLLAND! Anyway I hope you be fine and like I always say: I wait for you in Argentina feb ´09!!
    Adios!
  • Michael
I just tried, Prado Ayala Rioja 2006, the wine with the dog label that you said smelled like "crap." I enjoyed your review and ordered it. I loved it. I even ordered another case. I would rate this wine higher. Thanks,
    Michael
  • Gary...

Still watching ya...(I need to leave more comments....some would be good...lol)...I'm glad to see your getting after it (progressing and evolving). I like the way your describing the wines these day's (Cellaring oppourtunity and such). Good Job man ... keep up the good work.

    QOTD: Southern France

Too bad I missed that Secret Pack!

qotd: if I had one plane ticket to anywhere that has to do with wine? I would without a doubt come to wine library, and pray for the chance to chat with you (or if everything was ticketed to have a drink with you) I know I am getting rotton tomatoes thrown at me right now, but honestly I learn a ton from you, and where I am at right now, that would without a doubt be the most logical and benificial trip I could take in the wine world.
  • Tommy Vernieri
QOTD: New Zealand for the beautiful country (though I don't have much experience with their wines) or Apulia for an authentic trip to Italy and some great Primitivo.

Great show. It's too bad we didn't get the secret packs this time around, maybe next time.
  • Michael H.
QOTD: Burgundy and Champagne region for sure...
  • wgm
I just tried the Prado Ayala on GV's recommendation and was floored at the QPR. I wish I could pick this up in benighted Oklahoma. Spot on. Ten dollars, are you kidding?
  • Dan-o
    GV:
Great show. Unfortunately with my schedule, I was unable to participate in the secret pack. The Rioja sounded great and it is one of my favorites.

I have been to Bordeaux, Burgundy, the Rhone, Rheingau. However, the one place that I would really love to go to is Toscana! I love the wines, and I have heard great things about the food and the countryside.
  • Ben F
I really want to tour the Bordeaux region... GV love the 10 bone wines!!

GV, kudos on the pack review. The Rioja sounds perfect...with that dog on the label...I assume the wine has a remarkable "terrier".
sorry....guess I'm barking up the wrong tree there. But, hey, you gotta unleash a little humor once in a while. One of my pet loves is word play. Sniffy sniff city.
Where would I go with the unique airplane ticket? To Rangiroa where decent wines are made in the South Pacific...Tahiti...no trouble atoll.
    Out Island

I think that's a great QOTD. For me, I think it would be Castiglione Falletto in the heart of the Barolo area of Piemonte, Italia. And it would have to be dinner at Ristorante Le Torri after a visit to the Vietti winery. I have never been there, but I once had a dinner at Spiaggia in Chicago when Vietti owner/winemaker Luca Currado presented his wines, and Chef Maria Cristina (from Le Torri) was the guest chef. It was wonderful.

Never tried a desert wine before. Bought the "2004 Chateau Petit Vedrines" Sauternes and you are 100% correct about the smell. Couldn't believe it. However it is way too sweet for me. I'm sure a lot of people will like it because of the high sugar content. I just can't get over the smell. It does smell like a rubber ball with apricots.
  • Blake W
    QOTD: Bordeaux for sure!
  • damon aka unknownwine
I would want a hard core long trip through all of france. I can't narrow it down any more than that.

I should get in on one of these secret pack nites.
  • Luis Felipe
QOTD - Cotes du Rhone, FR
  • QOTD; Would love to see new-world-wine-contries like New Zealand and Australian, or South-African or Chile. Hope to go to Australia... I'm still young:-)
  • wannaBconnoisseur
Q-Italy, more specific Tuscany and the Venento.
  • Siggi from Iceland
QOTD: Burgundy, there is no other place that comes to mind,(well maybe Bordeaux) I mean you got to love these 1999 Pinot´s and they are as Tina said it so great "simple the best" for my palate that is:)
  • Mr.Ambassador
Fun episode featuring the secret packs (hopefully you'll be able to ship these to Washington State soon)!

QOTD - I'd like to tour the New Zealand wineries and surrounding country.
  • QOTD: Portugal, for sure.

This was another great show, got the fiance to hang out and watch and even the dog was here (don't worry he didn't get any wine). I love these shows!!

I bought some blue cheese as soon as I saw that Sauternes, yum yum.
  • This is an exceptional episode. Boy, am I sorry that I missed out on this two packs. I'm sore! Great two packs!
  • Venice! For the awesome enobars and the local awesomes such as prosecco and amarone.

Gary, can you come to Chicago?
  • QOTD: I'm not going to be very original, but I think it would be the Bordeaux region - what can you do, I'm French after all (I love other French wines, but I haven't been to Bordeaux in such a long time). I think the gf and I will try doing the Weekend des Grands Amateurs in 2010, which could also be a great opportunity to taste and possibly buy some '09 futures (which should be a special year for us).
  • Mike G
    QOTD: Rhone or the WineLibrary
  • italianwinelover
QOTD: This is a no brainer! ITALY!!! that is the motherland for me!!! The Piedmonte region would be nice and explore Veneto also!!!

Love to try these wines and they are so reasonable priced. Nice Job!!!

Still think you should come to Chi-Town!!!
  • Metal Dave
QOTD: Burgundy or Tokaj... probably Tokaj to see the ancient moldy cellars
  • pierazzo
you kidding? prosecco zone in veneto
    ops, i'm actually living there......
  • Leslie
ok, you've proven you can swirl and you're a good sport, but I'll take on your dare any day champ!

qotd; My first choice is Barbaresco, but I already live here so my next choice is South Africa.
  • The wine may not be the best, the food even, but I have been all over and no where can beat Cinque Terra Italy. Hiking through the vineyards there changed my life and I would go back in a heart beat. No where in the US or France can compare.
  • When I first poured the Rioja, I gave it a little "sniffy sniff". "Oh man! Sheep butt!" was my reaction! Good stuff, really interesting wines. Awesome show, awesome wines, doesn't get much better than that! Thanks, Gary!

  • bluejelo
    are you kidding? Bordeaux.
  • Hey Gary!
Im late on the punch..but I hope Lizzie had a great birthday!

QOTD: I guess I would choose Italy!

    Great Show!

    RANDI
  • The Sauternes had me most interested here, strangely enough I still haven't had one.

QOTD - Tough question, only one plane ticket? I'm going to have to say the fatherland - Hungary, and specifically Tokaj-Hegyalja. That way I get to try wome wonderful wines and also visit a country dear to my heart.
