I’m really getting tired of people making demands on what I should, or should not, do. But what the heck, one more time won’t really matter. Ok…….ok……I promise.

Interestingly enough there are some nice Carmenere wines being made in Australia now. But same problem, some overly herbaceous and a green. But I love the substance they deliver. Great Episode.

QOTD: I didn’t BUY it (as it is outside of my reasonable price range) but I tasted the 2004 Montes Purple Angel Carmenere after I served it to some customers.

QOTD: I promise to have a carmenere. Happy?

So I turned 21 today… which is good for the wine-drinking experience. I’ve been enjoying your show for a few months now and now I’ll be able to enjoy the wine too.

QOTD: Inama Carmenere Piu, 2005, from Italy oddly enough. Very food friendly especially with sausage, tomato sauce and lamb burgers. Loved it.

Casa Silva Reserva. Seems like carmeneres tend to fall into one of the two camps you hit on this show: overly vegetal and a little difficult, or cleaned up and cab-like (like the tomboy skater chick who cleans up well?). Would you agree or do you see more range? Definitely a grape I look for, and a good number of reasonably priced ($10-15) options are out there.

QOTD Now this is weird. I just picked up the 2006 Montgras Reserva Carmenere yesterday because I never heard of type of grape before. I really enjoy this type of wine. Will look out for more..

QOTD – the Concha Y Toro Diablo brand.

Gary, I know I’ve had a blend with Carmenere in it, but have no idea who produced it ? I’ll try one as soon as I’m off the anti-biotics for a sinus infection, Arrghh !

    Hi Gary,

Had a million Carmenere´s down here… please at some point in your life, try the Carmín de Peumo bottling from Concha y Toro, pricey and hard to find, but oh my, is it worth every cent… serioiusly, top 25 wines of all time, that is one of them for me.

Hey I got my Amazon books (6) but would love for you to sign them… any way to do that? I missed your NYC book signing by a day, had to fly out to San Jose on tuesday… bummer.

qotd-dont remember because i ran into a bad streak and switched over to malbec as a preferred south american qpr wine.

QOTD: I had my fair share of Carménère. It’s on the 60 mark, I guess. After all, I am going for a South American wines specialization. I personally think they are excellent for blends, and too hard to tame to become a nation representative as Malbec is for Argentina. When it achieves perfection, it is luscious, full bodied, coherent and new worldly with a hint of green. When it is rushed to comply with demand, it is green as a decorative fern (similar to Leatherleaf Fern).

I suggest the already mentioned: Botalcura, Calina, Santa Ema and Anakena. My favorites are Anakena and Terra Andina (excellent budget Carménère) and Santa Ema and Perez Cruz.

    P.S. Enough begging, I don’t want a wristband anymore!

QOTD: not yet but will try.

QOTD: Never had one… I PROMISE I’ll buy the next one I see and try it out.

On the “trust your own palate” thing… I just had a bloody mary that my friend made for me. It was the BEST bloody mary I’ve ever had. Flat out…. bar none. It. Was. The. Best.

Even with that, we decided to pick nits and I explained that I would like a little lemon and a little less heat. We tried again and HOT DAMN…. I was near the big O. He said he liked it better the other way.

It just goes to show, everyone’s palate is different.

GV: What’s the best bloody mary you’ve ever had?

Can’t get next to you … The Temptations … last Carmenere – 2005 Botalcura Carmenere La Porfia Grand Reserve … and it rocked !

never tried Carmenere but would love to, too bad there is no way i can find Carmenere on local washington liquor stores. If only winelibrary can ship to WA, sign……

    Chris in Tulsa

    QOTD: I promise!
Even tho none of these wines brought the thunder on this episode, please continue to do more shows on little known varietals. HOW ABOUT SOME GREEK WINES!!! LOTS OF SOME VERY ANCIENT VARIETALS THAT HAVE BEEN AROUND FOR AGES!
