Great head-to-header! QOTD: The most interesting Pinot Gris I tried was the Nobilo Icon, Marlborough NZ–it was almost peachy-orange in color, with a honey, floral nose-more like an Alsatian but with a wierd little acidic zap.

A DRAW …WAW,BUT TO BE HONEST GARY I THINK THAT YOU WERE FAIR ,BUT ANYWAY TO ANSWEAR THE QUESTION OF THE DAY ,THE BEST PINOT GRIS I’VE HAD IS THE TRIMBACH FROM THE ALSACE ,AND ALSO ENJOY ITALIAN PINOT GRIGIO VS DOMESTIC ONES JUST BECAUSE OF THE FACT THAT THEY’RE DRYER ,BUT I GOT TO TELL YOU THAT I HAVE A WEAKENESS FOR THE KING STATE PINOT GRIS FROM OREGAN .

qotd-a couple of great Oregon Pinot Gris- Capitello and Lumos both make very exciting, clean PG’s. Perfect on warm summer days. I’ve also had some really great Alsatian PGs lately. Can’t remember the producers. Fantastic stuff!

QOTD: Have had a bunch, even many good ones, but haven’t yet had one that stands out as “the best ever”.

Might pick up that Italian one from this show. Sounds decent.

I think the best I’ve had was an ‘05 Weinbach. Not sure on the spelling there or which it was if there’s more than one. Are you thinking of Bananas Foster? Great fried banana dessert.

    Good show.

QOTD: Tried the 2006 Nec-otium Pinot Grigio once. Didn’t like it .

Best one I’ve had so far – Goose Bay Pinot Gris 07 from new Zealand – and its even kosher! The QPR might be a little tough at around $23, but it’s a very good wine.

QOTD: Best PG? Never had. All were like cheap, sour, drink along wines. I mean, they did not add to the food but were better alternatives to beer…. :-(

QOTD- Not much of a Pinot Gris drinker, but I remember having a good one it was an Italian Pinot Grigio from Luisa.

My favorite Pinot Gris is 2005 Domaine Alfred, also just had Johan Vineyards 2007 Pinot Gris and it is loaded with citrus, pears and tons of acidity.

One more I cannot believe I had left out was from Alsace; the Donines Schlumberger Pinot Gris ‘Les Princes Abbes’, also biodynamic. they are so cool they still farm with horses and hands only! Ronck on Gary V enjoy the downtime; its much deserved!

All time favortie handsdown Domaine Alfred, just brilliant for an everyday favorite Montinore Estate. Both are Biodynamic too!

I just LOVE the head to heads!
I have been enamored with Vino for the past few years and am only starting to feel a little comfortable with my wine tasting and evaluating. These episodes help me fine tune my nose and palate much better. That’s why you are the best at what you do, you know your audience.
    Be blessed Brother!

Its always dangerous to speak in superlatives, but the 1989 Zind Humbrecht Pinot Gris Clos Windsbuhl Vendange Tardive is far and away the best PG I have ever had. No surprise coming from one of the greatest winemakers living and a fabulous vineyard. BTW all of the 2005 ZH Pinot Gris are terrific.
