Tried the wine without food Friday and opened a second bottle with crab cakes on Sunday. The wine is better with food, but is very good in all instances. Would give it a 93 right now, but there seems to be slight chance this wine will actually improve with another year of aging. Will come back to it then.

QOTD: I have lived in Friuli for 2 years when I was a lot younger. I have not enjoyed most of the wines I’ve tried then, but I think my palate has developed now. And even back then there were some efforts – most of them tocai or sauvs – that were just really enjoyable.

How opportune. I watched this and it was on the wine list at the Compound in Santa Fe where I am right now. Had it with halibut and I and everyone at the table was blown away. $42 on the menu so @$18 retail it is a great deal. Hope it’s not all gone.

QOTD: Yea, big fan of the Tocai Fruiliano, but never had that producer. I’ll have to look for it, but I’m in Chi-town so not sure if it is even available out here. Any help with that?

PS- The region of Friuli brings the MAD THUNDER when it comes to Italian whites!

qotd: never had a tocai before, i would try different varietals like that more often, but being in a small town selection sucks. and since my parents pay for everything still, i’m not allowed to buy wine off the internet. it sucks, but in a year max i’ll be on my own, so i look forward to that day.
