Classic WLTV in my mind for sure! That was awesome and I dont think I’ve ever laughed so hard during WLTV. AJ making a cameo apperance would have made it a priceless episode! thanks Gary!

Keep up the blind tastings and throw in some other states.

GARY, YOU WOULD NOT BE SO STRESSED ABOUT THE SPILL ON YOUR SHIRT IF YOU KNEW ABOUT WINE AWAY, IT REALLY GETS WINE OUT OF ANYTHING!! I DO LIKE THE BLIND TASTINGS, KEEP IT UP!

That was a fun episode! That has to be one of the best spill/catches ever! Thanks for the replay, Mott :)

Also great wine values – time to go shopping (again). I always enjoy the blind tastings.

Just discovered the show through stumbeupon, Love it, Wrestlers make it even better. But where is Paul Mr#1derful?

Live in Napa, can throw a ball and hit the vineyards from my house. Great energy can’t stop watching. Only been watching for 3 days but I am now a Vayniac!

Great! I’d love to see more blind tastings, especially when the wines have different prices.

Was there a QOTD? I think I missed it in all of the craziness. VERY entertaining dude. Getting hooked to the show for sure. I am finding that Zins are really uping the stakes for competitve price/quality wines from California. And you just hit the tip of the iceberg on the show today. The zin blends are really coming on strong too. Ever try the Prisoner by Orin Swift?

What’s with the recent lack of questions of the day???
    That’s today and yesterday!
I don’t feel like I’ve had a proper fix of WLTV without a question!
    : (

Or maybe I just didn’t hear you say the Q?
No, I think you missed it!
    I’ll answer it anyway:
    QOTD- Banana…?

P.S. Click on my name to find a great blog about foie gras!
(It doesn’t actually go directly to it but you’ll see the link)

It’s nice to see SIMI doing well. I’m a big fan of the 05 Russian River Valley Chard. and the 05 Alexander Valley Sauv. Banc. I can’t wait to try that Zin.

  25. May 28, 2008

    Neil

    QOTD: Lemon Curry?

My wife and I enjoyed a Pappapietro Perry Zin last night with diner. Yummy although it was not in the %15.00 and under category. We have been drinking so much Cabernet, Pinot and Bordeaux it was a nice change of pace.

The wine spilling was good. Slap stick wine tasting… Try soda water for those stains and have fun in SF!

Great show! Love Zin, love blind tastings and love “the spill”. Can’t believe it’s your first. Looks like a few drops on the wall behind you. Keep’em coming (ALL but the spill of course)

    Also, I have a guess for what you had in the pumpkin a few shows back; I am guessing a FOURTH generation wrist band was in the pumpkin. OK, so hook me up! ;-}

I have just discovered this show, and I think it’s great! I am studying in Sardinia (Italy) this year. Have you tried any sardinian wines?

Great show! I actually can’t believe it took you this long to spill on the show!

I also like some of the Amador County Zinfandels as well as Paso Robles area! Try a few of these for values from California!

I am a big fan of Zins. I have a half dozen in the wine fridge. I have also found zins to be a very QPR friendly style. The only issue I ever have with them is some are very hot at 15.5%+ and unbalanced. Other than that they offer flavor profiles that I find enticing. I had two of the ones you sampled today. One of my favs is the 2004 Edizonne Pennino from Niebaum Coppola, really good vino.

  40. May 28, 2008

Great slo-mo action on the spill. Fun show….

You forgot QOTD. Wine spill must have really freaked you out. Too bad they didn’t put Saint Amant Zinfandel Mohr Fry Ranch 2006 in the blind tasting. I was in the store the other day and decided to try a bottle. Really impressed with the fruit and soft tannins. Under 14 bones too!

Your wristband giveaway sucks. What about all of us that have already purchased multple copies of THE BOOK? We need to purchase another copy to get the 4th wristband?

  44. May 28, 2008

    italianwinelover

AWESOME show love the blind tastings! But what no QOTD???? Did the spill get you fraziled?? You kept your kewl under pressure! Mott needs a little more camera presence to get him accustomed – love him anyway and still think he should have his own shirt! Is the candy your talking about “MaryJanes” they have a yellow and red wrapper but the candy tastes like peanut butter????

Just wondering who picked these wines?
and what about SIR GARY V? Have not seen him in awhile??? The newbies know nothing of him!!!

    Have fun in SanFran!!!

  45. May 28, 2008

    acenomics

so, we have to buy a book on the 4th to get the book or do we just email the receipt (i already bought 2 copies) the 4th?

yay, blind tasting! Awesome slow-mo moment!!! I was laughing so hard! :)

Btw, thanks for the recommendation of the 2005 Felline Primitivo- it was great! Plus, I got to try it in my brand spanking new big ass glass!

  47. May 28, 2008

Great, great show!!!!! As always. I need to find a “House Zin” to compete with Haywood and Turley at the fraction of the price.

Im having a very nice Oyster Bay SB right now and ready to pop the AO (Alpha Omega) Prop Red that you raved about in your book. I’ll let you know how it goes.

    Cheers!

P.S. I’m thinking I finally get to meet you in June. THAT should be fun.

Big shout out to Mott!! I loved the slow mo of Gary V spilling the vino. You need to do more slow mo shots in the future. I laughed so hard I almost popped the button on my shorts. Thnaks Mott for everything you do, and you too Gary :) .

Go Zin! I agree on the value.

Try Wine Away for the wine stain. We bring it with us tasting because it works so well.

  53. May 28, 2008

    Tommy Vernieri

Pretty sneaky putting that blend in there. I like the blind tasting format. I trust you to review the wines honestly but as you said with the Simi, there are obviously preconceived notions that can come into play.

  54. May 28, 2008

    sam

Hope the shirt’s alright. I enjoy Zins. The last I had were Dancing Bull and Ravenwood. Good show…Maybe the Primitivo vs the Zins would make a good show

  55. May 28, 2008

    Kittylitter

Really a great show. Add my thumbs – up to the blind tastings. Keeps me on the edge of my chair until the results are in.

You should try taking up juggling 4 open bottles of really dark wine for your next act.

Enjoy the Golden City by the Bay, and go see the “Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill.”

  56. May 28, 2008

    ChrisH

I have really started to enjoy the red Zinfandels lately. Oliver Winery here in Indiana makes a pretty darn good one actually.

I enjoy the blind tastings every now and then. Keeps it spicy. Now about those fourth gen wrist bands… I think the street team should have dibs on some of those ;-)

  57. May 28, 2008

Zin is my favorite red! Great show – love the blind format.

Hey Gary.. you forgot the QOTD… so I’ll just answer that we had a killer Mauritson Zin the other night. More than $15, but really great. Great show, but having your mom take care of the stain on your shirt? Just sayin…..

  59. May 28, 2008

Great episode. New territory to explore. Thank you so much for the direction. So many wines, so little time.

  60. May 28, 2008

    Lenny

Great show, except you should have just sucked it up and kept going. Does this mean you are a neat freak? What a pregnant pause!!

See you next week as the Wizard.

  61. May 28, 2008

    Billyd

great show gv you have cat like reactions.. like when you caught the glass that blew of the table. But the flying wine adds a nice dimension.
Mott next time you get to ad lib throw us a couple Gary stories..

  62. May 28, 2008

    Little Jonny H

Kick Ass Show, GV! I’ve often thought that blends tend to outperform 100% varietals… especially when the blend is dominated by one varietal b/c it provides identity (in New World wines). I can’t wait for you to come to Cleveland, it’s gonna be Hott!

  63. May 28, 2008

    dAve

Very nice – real life – I spilled it, I recovered it, I need a new shirt! Very very funny. Glad you didn’t start over! I love Zin’s – one of my fav’s. I even make some from wine kits to great success!!!

  64. May 28, 2008

    KW

Always enjoy the blind tasting. The Seghesio Old Vine Zin is a lot better but cost $10 more. I want the next gen wrist band!

  65. May 28, 2008

Great conclusion with the observation that cuvees may be more balanced.

LOL! …”whether they like it, or Mott!”

  66. May 28, 2008

    BobM

Love the bind tasting, Gary. The more, the better, and $15 is a pretty good price point. Enjoy S. F. How did you like Book Passage? It’s a great, independent store, holding its own against the chains.

  67. May 28, 2008

    Craig Rost

you seem more into the show during the blind tasting shows. Please keep doing them.

Hey…what happen to the Question of the day?

  69. May 28, 2008

    Kezza

Hey Gary! Having spilled many a red wine on my crisp white shirts back in my server days, let me just say – a 1/4 cup of bleach with a splash of club soda.. blot it on and the stain disappears! I’m tellin ya, it will look like the wine was never there. Something about the fizzy bleach action.

Great show by the way.. I’m loving these blind tastings! Can’t wait to see what the next special gift is for the 2-bookers! Just used the free shipping code to buy 4 bottles of varietals I’ve never had (including carmenere and tempranillo!) Thanks for helping me expand the PAL!

Don’t worry about the wine, I think you doing better then 99% of us… I have caught just about ever show and the count is only 1 broken glass and 1 bottle of spilt wine. Pretty impressive

Blind tastings are always so much fun! Adds kinda like a surprise ending to the show. Just thought I’d say hey and leave a comment. If you have a question just ask!

Love Zinfandel and love Magito!!! So happy to see you include it in this blind tasting, along with some other great wines too. Magito has me believing in the power of good wine blending. According to their website (www.magitowines.com) it’s actually pronounced “muh-gee-toe” and the Zin is called Panorama to represent all the varietals in the blend. Zins rule!

  79. May 29, 2008

    Chris D

I love the juicy, fruity taste of Zins… thanks for bringing them around again GV.

Let’s bring Gary to West Palm Beach, FL – http://www.evite.com/pages/invite/viewInvite.jsp?inviteId=IPDWHPJVJOEZHEXZYTPB&li=iq&src=email&trk=aei6

Just got home from a ladies only wine-tasting and guess what I spilled merlot on my white capri pants. It was worth it. The wines paired with food by a reputable chef were Sterling chardonnay and merlot, Canoe Ridge merlot, Moon Mountain cab and a Canadian late vintage. Only the last called CEV was available locally. Nice night, then your show. Life is good! Tomorrow I check out zins here in Montreal.Laundry time, yawn.

    Long time lurker…first comment.

Loved the episode. The blind taste is something my staff and I do at work all the time. It’s really great to see what you think of a product without any preconceived notions.

I also need to give some love to Roboto on the desk. Awesome.

Great show gary. Love blind tastings!! Keep them coming!!

  83. May 29, 2008

    manonthemoon

Love the blinds just about as much as I love zins (which is a lot). The only problem I see in most of them is agebility, but thats okay since it just means I get to drink them sooner.

Also what is up with two days without QOTDs?

  84. May 29, 2008

Love the blind tastings, no prejudices, no clues, just raw reaction. Be safe in your travels.

Somehow I see the spillage a player in the spoof videos to come. Nice shout out to Mom, “hey Mom, check my laundry”! You never know what you’re going to get from the Vaynernation… Mott, you might want to have a plan B ready in case of future unexpected camera time. Gary was sooo discombobulated he forgot QOTD! I love my WinelibraryTV!!!!

  92. May 29, 2008

    Sharon

Thanks for the chuckle, damn that’s funny, good job Mott! Good job Gary reviewing the Zins blind(I hope to use the free/ship coupon before it expires). Good tip up there Kezza – bleach and club soda.
One time was at a tasting and my buddy dropped an entire bottle on the floor. So no biggie about a little spill. GV was just a little amped (it’s natural for GV).

Great move with the wine flip. Can we call it a wine flip, on slo-mo almost a perfect arc onto the shirt. Don’t you guys use Wine away? Gets it out every time for me. Love Zinds so I go to the Zind fest every year. Thanks for the blind tasting.

very nice, Hey MOTT. you should learn a card trick or something for when that happens. or even better, get a broom and go starwars kid for a few seconds!

  106. May 29, 2008

    Neil

Very entertaining, Gary! I was wondering when you might have a little mishap with those wine bottles. I’ve had a few myself just like that.

I like that you preferred the Magito over the other Zins. A few months ago I tried an awesome Zin made by Owen Roe Abbot’s Table Blend of about 70% Zinfandel as well as some Cabernet, Sangiovese and some other varietals which I can’t recall but it was the best Zinfandel I’ve ever tried to date. Hopefully, this one will be a good one to try as well. Thanks for helping to spread knowledge about wine. You’ve inspired me to learn and spread the knowledge as well.

  107. May 29, 2008

    Steve B

Excellent show. More blind tastings, please!

And another please: PLEASE stop giving point scores to wine. We don’t need them — we have our palates. You don’t need them either. NO MORE SCORES!

  108. May 29, 2008

    Fibonacci

Hey Gary, when you get RED wine on something, you can take it out with WHITE wine. (an old trick from my “sky warrier” days of traveling continuously on airplanes…..Club soda works on (almost) everything except red wine, and white wine will work on red wine!)

That was a great show! Love the blind tastings – who picked the wines for the show? Mott?

Blended wines are usually my favorites. The winemaker gets to show what he/she can do.
Good look on the shirt. Bleach works best for me.

    QOTD:~
I would soak that shirt in oxy-clean for a couple days.

Scissors also work great for taking out red wine stains.

Great episode, I’m a huge Zin head and just wish there were more of it here in Japan.

    Reading the book, great stuff!!

Took me 35 years to see it, but I have finally seen what a deer in headlights looks like. Nice Mott.

    Hi Gary;
Your spirit is infectious-great show! YES, this Magito Zin is all about the blend and spirit of Americana. I could not have made this wine without my pals who grow these grapes for me in all these different appellations. I come from a vineyard management background and so this wine celebrates all the places I used to manage…
I hope the book tour in the Bay area went well for you.
    Best wishes, and thank you.
    Tom Meadowcroft, winegrower, Magito wines.

Just remembered – those candies that you were asking about were called Bonkers (I think)…

I liked the Seghesio better than you, but let it breathe a bit more. Nice slo-mo on the wine slosh. I wanted to buy the book when you hit Portland, but for a wrist band….

No QOTD? Just had a big 2001 Tenimenti Barolo and it rocked me. Life is good.

Great Zin Ep. I’ve been watching since episode 80 (or so) and have back-tracked to see all of them and it’s ABOUT TIME you splashed some vino unintentionally all over the WLTV set and yourself. Thoroughly enjoyed.

Love love love this format. Don’t get me wrong, I also love when you dive into a particular vineyard or varietal but more blind tastings would make me a happy man.

And the spill. I was watching on my iphone on the train and I just lost it. If the people around only knew I was watching a show about wine.

Keep up the great work Gary

Love the blind tasting. Keep’em coming.
    Hope the shirt is ok.

    Gary,

I spill all the time. The more tasting, the more I spill. Spay & Wash Double-Action ™ works well for wine stains… Great show again.

GV – Awesome show, best in awhile! The Spill broke me – I laughed for the whole show. Wine-B-Gone works wonders.

Great show!… got the blind tasting thing going on and best yet a value oriented show. Perfect! Didn’t you miss the QOTD? Of course the question would have been, “describe the last time you spilled a bottle of wine. How did it happen?”

    Best,

    B

I looooove Zinfandel! The spill makes this episode a classic. NICE SLOW MO!! Very nice show. Wild show! No QOTD!! I support scores; they’re a good referrence.

4th generation wristbands?, I’ve only got 1st & 2nd (3rd seems to have got lost in the mail) :(

Love the spill!! Now I understand the “Return of the shirt” moment from “Tomorrows” episode. QOTD – looks like the spill distracted you from that one :)

I agree with Steve B, more blind tastings! However I disagree with Steve B, please do NOT stop scoring those wines, I like your take on the wines and the link back to past tastings.

no QOTD?! GF loves the Zin, she’s a big fan of the Earth Zin and Fire, which I think is a fruit bomb but not too bad. we do enjoy it.

No QOTD??? I am incensed! Well, not really. ;-) I think this was one of the best WLTV episodes EVER. Great comedy. Mott needs some work, though. :-)

As a huge fan of Zin, Gary, my only comment today is please stop calling it RED Zinfandel. You know all Zinfandel comes from RED grapes. Makes me crazy!

I think you need to do a blind taste-off on WLTV against that fancy lad Brian Freedman from Classic Wines!!! Take him down to China-town Gary and show him what’s what!

Ahhhh, mishaps are what make things like WLTV great. Cant believe it was nearly 500 before a big spill happened. Hope Lizzie didnt beat you too hard :P . Love the appearance by the Mottster, too. You have to get him on camera more. Get him to open up! Keep up the blind tastings, too. I always enjoy them.
