HEYYY!!! What the heck was that? I can’t wait to see what wine #4 was?

  14. June 3, 2008

    Eli2Tyree

Hey Gary in spite of the fact that you left this episode like Fonzie on the water skis about to hit the ramp (hope this doesnt mean your about to jump the shark with WLTV)I love the blind stuff, but do it where Ian can mix up the pricepoints. I would love to see a $15 wine smoke a $50 wine blind and prove that you cannot use pricepoint to judge a wine.

  15. June 3, 2008

    thecobalt9

woah – wltv cliffhanger! hope that 71 pointer wasn’t an early bottle of Vayniac cab!

Gary, thanks for using the stemless glasses! My dad never liked using them because of what the snobs say, now hopefully he will use his Christmas presents!

  35. June 3, 2008

Gary- I own stemmed & stemless glasses but do LOVE the O series!!! I use different glasses for different moods……………. :)

If you guys will DL the quicktime version, you’ll get to see the ending. I think the upload was buggered somehow.

Loves these blind tastings Gary. I agree that you should mix-up the price points and see if a $15 wine can beat a $50 wine. :)

  38. June 3, 2008

    McAdamSandwich

Whoops, nevermind. Scratch that last comment…it IS a cliffhanger!

*Duuum da dum dum…duuum da dum dum. Ladies and gentlemen: the story you are about to hear is true. Only the names have been changed to protect the innocent. WHAT!?!?!?! No question of the day? What trickery is this?

  46. June 3, 2008

    JimKay

Classic epsiode. Gary going through the wines and giving us some good tasting notes for wines we can all enjoy. But he couldn’t finish it off! I’ll have to check back when the results are on the SS.

QOTD: I like the old format.

Oh, man! You guys were either being stinkers or you ran out of space on the memory card (or charge on the camera battery…) :)

Fun episode. I’m looking forward to the unveiling (hopefully) tomorrow!

I’m happy to see you using the stemless glass. I use stemless for everyday- harder to accidentally tip, and you can toss ‘em in the dishwasher. If my hands were hot enough to change the temperature of the wine in the glass (as the wine-glass snobs claim), I would be suffering from a life threatening fever & would belong in the hospital, not in my living room relaxing with a glass of wine!

  48. June 3, 2008

    Craig Rost

What yhe !@#$%*%? As a Napa Cab fan I was really lookin forward to the results!

  49. June 3, 2008

    That’s a pretty lame ending.

  50. June 3, 2008

    Bobby Wino

dude…those stemless glasses drive me crazy. They get all covered in fingerprints and that makes me feel all grubby. If you’re eating appetizers with your fingers those glasses get nasty looking.

And since we couldn’t see the unveiling today I’m thrilled to have Mott’s gorgeous face the last image of the day!

  51. June 3, 2008

    UTshock

I was really looking forward to the unveiling, but I guess I’ll have to wait until tomorrow to see Yellow Tail unveiled as the top wine. I’m kidding, but it would be high comedy if it happened.

Hey GV, not a Cab fan so the final verdict isn’t too important. However, I’m afraid that the stinker of the show is a BC effort. Not too many decent reds worth mentioning from the north west that you have available to you.

Buying the book tomorrow, a groovy wristband beats a cab any day of the week!

  55. June 3, 2008

    Tom

DOH!!!! I am interested to hear the reasons. I am looking forward to seeing you Gary at the American Express wine thing at 4pm on Thursday. :-)

    Gary
Great show, also I don’t know if you have tried it yet but there is this California wine people call it “2buck Chuck” it is a Charles Shaw wine that you can get at trader joes for 2 dollars.

    Raybo

Who Shot JR?????? The season ending cliff hanger????? Love the stemless glasses – I have the same Reidel’s.

  58. June 3, 2008

    J Crazy

I hope there wasn’t a fire drill or anything of that nature. I do look forward to hearing about it tomorrow though. Mad ups to big Mott-ster for the sing-off.

How about having Gary and Mr. Mott BOTH sit and do wine tasting every once in a while. We’ll get Gary’s opinion AND a less experienced wine drinker.

I like the blind tastings. It just makes the show more ‘real’ d.o. double g.

  61. June 3, 2008

    Nick G.

Something is definately up. I’ll guess that Gary was on the right track with #4, and that none of these are actually Cabernet Sauvignon.

You know that feeling when you are trying to remember the name of a song or a movie and its just out of your mental reach?

    This episode was like that.

    You’re killing me Gary.

  64. June 3, 2008

Gary come on…. Your leaving me hang on my favorite 2 formats wines under 10 and blind in one show…

    See you tomorrow.

  66. June 3, 2008

WHAT?!?! A cliffhanger? Now I’ll have to watch tomorrow’s episode for sure…

I agree with others, the idea of doing a blind between $50 and $15 wines would be very interesting. Thanks Gary!

Haha. great ending. I love cab so I’m excited for tomorrow!

  69. June 3, 2008

    tastes like lasers

I have to agree with Eli2Tyree: forget the price range on the blind test. Its fun to see a cheap wine do some damage since thats pretty much all I can afford :o )

  70. June 3, 2008

    Daniel O

    Ack! What a tease!

BTW, I’m so NOT a fan of stemless wine glasses. But then again I do drink a lot of white wine, and generally drink them chilled, so you can imagine why I prefer traditional glasses with stems. :-D

Maybe I’m just stupid but I didn’t really understand what he was trying to say in regards to getting a wristband. I want one! Do I just order off amazon tomorrow and I get one? How does it work?

  77. June 4, 2008

    John D.

Nooooooooooooooooo! Cliffhanger!!!! Hell, this is better than most movies w/ a “To Be Continued…” at the end. Love the blind tastings. And no QOTD! I’m in withdrawal!!!

  78. June 4, 2008

    Brian

Wow, I find myself watching this episode a couple times, just to make sure i didnt miss something…Come on, reveal reveal reveal…his favorite wine outta that batch was probably 2 buck chuck and he didnt want to admit it…lol

You not revealing the wines was like the anger my freshman dorm mates felt when I took Bo Jackson from the kickoff and ran circles around the Tecmo Bowl defenders. Like candy from a baby! So, if there are any Miami University Stanton Hall 3-North Bad Boys around- I dominated!!

  82. June 4, 2008

Jack Bauer says “Dammit Vaynerchuk, I need those names and I need them NOW!!!”

  83. June 4, 2008

blind challenges of low priced wines should have one expensive wine in there, and vice versa. most of the time, he’d probably be able to get it, but once in a while you’d get a surprise.

  84. June 4, 2008

    Chris D

I like the — To Be Continued — just like a sitcom …will Fonzie make it over the shark ?!?

  85. June 4, 2008

    John Cabot

Owwch!! That was a buzz kill. I’m feeling a little blue balls over here on dat one. WTF?

  86. June 4, 2008

    Zach

SO LAME! I bet the reason you didn’t reveal the wines is that Ian was messing with you and none of them were cabs.

If you just did this as a cliffhanger that’s BS. We were going to watch tomorrow anyway!

  87. June 4, 2008

    Scottymatt

17 minutes of my live I will never get back again….I love the drama but this may be too much…..

Hey Gary, your signing at Grape Vine Market in Austin was awesome. Darin & Lori will love the signed copy of your book. I’d love to see your take on an episode featuring Rosenblum Reserve wines. Gotta love those fruit bombs!

  89. June 4, 2008

    WoodBAussie

Hey GV, I guess these comments mean I no longer live in the realm of “lurkers”. Whoo hoo!

  90. June 4, 2008

    T. Reasoner

well after reading the comments I chose not to watch this episode but instead wait until he reveals them. The exact reason I watched the sopranos on DVD rather then on t.v. I could watch them all at once.

: ) Nice try but you did not get me sucked into your world of suspense.

  91. June 4, 2008

    sgevurtz

How come you never do a double blind tasting where you don’t know anything about the wines and try to guess the varietals and price-points? Come on don’t be afraid, do it Gary. What do other people think?

  92. June 4, 2008

    Aaron S.

No worries GV, thanks Mott! :-)

    See you guys tomorrow!

  93. June 4, 2008

    Greg B

Big G, I have been watching for a year and 4 months now and I don’t remember the last time you let me down. It would have been a lot better not to air anything. Wow G, you cut me deep on this one. First you don’t take the Book Tour to LA now this. Your slipping G.

QOTD: Oh yeah, there wasn’t one!

  94. June 4, 2008

    Mike1115

Man, that really better not be a ruse to get people talking. And Cabernet Sauvignon is what I’m all about right now so I was really looking forward to the unveiling.

  95. June 4, 2008

    Oregon Jim

Tomorrow is an eternity to someone who lives in the moment.
I knew something bad was going to happen when there were no “wines tasted in this episode.” Something bad indeed. Is it tomorrow yet? If I own any of the wines Gary is going to taste today I open them and taste along. No wines listed today! Not that I care. I don’t need my daily GV tasting fix. IS IT TOMORROW YET? No I am fine. I don’t wonder what the 6 wines were. I am just going to go on with things. Maybe watch a couple few archive episodes while I wait for TOMORROW TO COME. Another moment has passed and now only 840 moments to go. Do-do-do, dum-dum-dum……….

  96. June 4, 2008

    Chris S

    Gary you tease!

    Ran out of battery Mott?

  98. June 4, 2008

    JacobS

I was noticing the time count down, how he only had 2 minutes left and was just going to blow through the scores and unveil the wines at the end. I was getting progressively more nervous and then… nothing. And I just bought the book to get a wristband. Dang.

  99. June 4, 2008

    YoungDave

WHAT?! I’m sure there’s an explanation… but what? Maybe the battery ran out? I’m confused…yet intrigued and antsy to learn the truth of the blind tasting!

  100. June 4, 2008

    Pimpnerd88

500 bones for that Seed show. Sounds great but… it’s 500 bones.

  101. June 4, 2008

    Oakmon's BF

The same thought occurred to me that thecobalt9 expressed, the 71 pointer was Vayniac Cab. Obviously Gary is trying to suppress the results. But you don’t have to be Columbo to realize that there’s something wrong with that. If he was really trying to cover up something, he wouldn’t have shown the episode at all. Gary likes to pull our strings so he can have some fun comments to read while he’s away.
Gary, I got to see your store last Friday, very nice. It took ¾ of a tank of gas but I got some wines I wasn’t able to get anywhere else. Obviously I’m from one of those states you can’t ship to. I’m looking forward to seeing you next week in Philly. Great show!

  102. June 4, 2008

    Ryan D

Hehe… maybe the wine Gary panned was the Vayniac Cab. :P

Glad that I won! Thanks for the book. I got it yesterday in the mail and I read the whole thing last night! AWESOME!!! You write just like you talk, I could hear your voice through the entire book. Thanks for putting more info out there in an enjoyable format!! I think everyone should read this book and keep it on their shelves for reference use or just for enjoyment! As always you capture what is important in life….family & friends and sharing wine with them!! Thanks again!

    Enjoy Chicago…its a great city!

  105. June 4, 2008

    Erick Grau

    Gary,

Only way I could accurately describe how you left us – BLUE BALLS! I will make no assumptions or speculations as to “why” you cut it. I’ve read that you might have possibly picked your own wine as a 71 or even that NONE were cabs… 1) I don’t think any wine created or over seen by someone with your palette will allow a production of wine that is a 71. 2) I think you would know the difference of a cab and another varietal – although there are always exceptions (pinots with full bodies and such..)

Don’t keep us waiting too long please…

    Erick

  106. June 4, 2008

    Jorge

Only god knows what’s going on, but I really hope It’s not the vayniac’s cab; It would be very sad…

Now I just hope the new show is released soon. Please Mott!!!!!!

  107. June 4, 2008

    Ben

That hurt, like a suplex in a no holds match….cant wait for tomorrow

  108. June 4, 2008

    Harry

Yo Gary?!? Perhaps one of your best shows ever, working strong through the wines most people start their “serious” drinking on, and then…. what!! Why did you cut it off? Really not so nice, especially since what I love about your show is its honesty and candor. Please don’t bow to some pressure about your ratings – you’re way above that. You rock and I I’m looking forward to the thunder crashing through

Here I am playing catch up watching past episodes and I finally get all the way to the current episode and you pull this? I would love to see that the 71 pointer was a $100 ringer slipped in.

Hurry up and release the next episode!!!

    Great show, by the way.

  113. June 4, 2008

    Flavio

When there were 20 seconds of video left and Gary hadn’t even started going through the wines, I started getting very worried.

He better show the freaking results today.

As for the Jack Bauer comment – that’s exactly why I only watch 24 on DVD or when I have the entire season on Tivo. I hate this “to be continued” crap.

  114. June 4, 2008

MAN! Talk about leaving us in the lurch! Gary must have said something really non-PC, or legally actionable for him to do this.

    We must have satisfaction!

    Love ya, Gar.

    Hi Guys,
As you should by now the popularity of Gary Vay-ner-chuk goes the borders of the US. I would like to get some of those funcky merchandise as the T-Shirt or the book, can you guys arrange something for us to purchase that stuff!!

By the way, are you working with a Hollywood producer now, starting sequels!!

I usually watch three or four podcasts in a row. Time constraints and all. I was just unlucky to have this one be the last of the four that I watched today. Some might say that it is lucky, because here I am leaving a comment.

    Rowland

hey, if you have 2 glasses, just give one to MOTT!

  153. June 4, 2008

    David Williams

I’m thinking that he realized he was about to rip a person who he has a good relationship with. It’s hard when your a critic and a seller. It would kind of being like a movie theatre that did movie reviews–would you believe them? Yeah, this movie sucked so don’t buy tickets. Gary may be in a box.

  154. June 4, 2008

    I-lurk

I agree with Rowland, always give Mott a glass of what you’re tast’n. You’re facial expressions of Mott’s facial expressions are worth a thousand words! Plus it’s fun!

  167. June 4, 2008

    KennyMac

For all those upset at the ending to the show, come on, lighten up. It’s not like you have to wait until next season for the cliffhanger to be resolved. Is your whole life wrapped up in finding out what’s under the wrappers that you can’t wait? It’s one day, people! Besides, there may have indeed been (as Mott said) various reasons for the show ending as it did (tape problems, maybe?) but even if it’s just a straight-on cliffhanger, good on Gary for throwing a curveball. Keeps it interesting. So patience, people. I’m sure all will be revealed.

Now, if you really want an exercise in patience, try being a fan (as I am) of Lost…

  171. June 4, 2008

    chenin

Ditto, the Riedel-O glasses suck. They’re even more lacking in style when you see someone using them. As for the cutoff – people, the show is for free after all and shit happens. I think only Mott’s mysterious comment and no further explanation at all gave way to the various speculations. So WTF we’re in for a lot of fun and that’s all we need and all we get.

    Chad Spacey

I had a crazy idea what do you think?

For the blind tasting shows, before you revile the wine from inside the bag, give what you would pay for it. So give them a rating and then give a price you would pay for it.

    Chad

  175. June 4, 2008

    Holmes

I’m all about the Riedel-O glasses, more of a Masculine feel. Give me a break about the loss of nose, how is that possible?? Way to switch it up at the end, drives some people crazy.

  176. June 4, 2008

    DFC

Hey, I love the stemless wine glasses. When I sit one on the tray table next to the couch while I am sitting on the couch, they are not as likely to tip over when my yellow lab hits the tray table…. Ok, what up with the ending of this episode!!

C’mon, don’t go Hollywood on us Gary. What a contrived, phony ending. Wasted 18 minutes of my time. Might have to put Wine Library in the corner for a week or 2 as punishment.

I rated the wine’s scores as Gary went through the tasting notes: based on his reaction I imagine the scores to be
    #1 79 pts
    #2 87 pts
    #3 86 pts
    #4 89 pts
    #5 73 pts
    #6 85 pts

I have no idea what his scores are…. we’ll see on the next show…

this is awesome watching everyone get pissed about the ending…i’m actually quite interested to find out what happened…i hope it’s something hilarious to put all the doubters to shame.

by the way, gary, the only thing i’m not feelin on this episode are the glasses without stems…lol…it looks rediculous…but whatever gets the vayniaks goin is fine by me. great show!

  183. June 4, 2008

One other thing… So rad that you have Tecmo Bowl sitting on the table. That’s pretty awesome.

  184. June 4, 2008

I think that the cliffhanger was pretty solid, but GV needs to take things to the next level. I’m talking old school batman-style cliffhangers, a little dramatic narrating at the end from Mott as he shows some exciting highlights. Really build up the suspense. And for that matter I think GV and Mott need to start throwing in some graphic “Pow”s and “Zam”s, or even just a Thunder symbol if the wine is bringing it. Keep it up.

Stems are for me. If I don’t have a stem, it’s pop! smile. But then I don’t spit my wine out in parking lots or into buckets. smile.

AHH! What was this show? The unknown bag wine? What’s UP with that? I now have to watch this twice? Once when I see and know the wines? I went into my wine store today and asked for “Gary bag #4 cab” and now I can’t go back for 2 weeks (so embarrassing, they thought I was saying something dirty)
Dirty shoe #3 Dorky cherries? Do you have a lexicon of all these terms?
#4 – raspberry tort. I can’t keep up with smelling and tasting the world so I can match to you, Gary! smile. hahahaha.
#5 – can’t wait to know what to avoid!
#6 – cedarbox and text book. wow. love your terms. they expand my vocab!

REALLY good show, again. I come almost each day to watch and learn.

  188. June 4, 2008

    KyBoy

G-man, was this some sort of marketing ploy? What’s up w/ that?? It’s all good though, you’re still the man. Look forward to the unveiling.

  189. June 4, 2008

    Neil Willsey

I was SO enjoying the blind tasting of six Cabs and then…… THEN….. Oh my gosh…. you end up not pulling them out of the bag for the big reveal with your ratings. There must be more of an explanation than what Mott gives there at the very end…. isn’t there??

I am all for the stemless wine glasses, whether or not they be Riedel O’s. My wine glasses are all of the stemless variety and I think they are so much more sensible than the stemmed variety. Much less chance of them getting knocked over at the table by a wayward elbow or flying hand. To each his own, and if you must have stemware, by all means do. I think the stemless ones are the way to go as a practical matter.

Gary, please promise us that we will find out what happened on this episode with the “to be continued” ending. We’re all going nuts out here wondering what was in those bags.

They will never reveal what’s in the paper bags. Even if they do, it will be a separate episode and they have time to change the bottles. I’m dying for an explanation. GV, are you gonna have time to read all these comments? I think it will reach 300 before you explain what happened :)

Probably the worst episode of WLTV…

  198. June 5, 2008

    Ken

What a phoney show. Gary’s palate was tricked and he was afraid that the unveiling of the wines would show that he panned one that he previously praised of vice versa. I’m glad I FF’d to the end of the episode & did not waste 18 minutes of my time watching.

BS such as this is one of the reasons I quit watching WLTV. My revisit to WLTV today did nothing to convince me to return.

Is there really a good tasting $10 Cab out there?
If so where is it from?
    France? Don’t think so
    USA ? NOT gonna happen
Africa, South America, Portugal, Canada…hmmmmm perhaps.

    Hey Vaniac’s:

I agree with sgevurtz. This episode makes me want to see some double blinds. I not so much interested in Gary getting the varietals correct as seeing what he scores wines without the price affecting his thought process.

  214. June 6, 2008

    Gord McG

Maybe the mystery wine was the 69-point 2005 Convenant?

  215. June 7, 2008

    vivaitalia

Wow, I’d like to give you the benefit of the doubt as you’ve had no problem panning wines in the past reguardless of the consequences, but this seems shady to me. What I first thought was that they dropped the bags and realized they had the show theme wrong and were a little embarrased. I don’t see why though, preconceived notions are a fact of life and to act as though any of us are immune from them is just crazy. That being said I think many of us would kill to see a double blind episode to see some pure analysis and reaction. Maybe Ian thought it would be funny to put the vayniac cab in there because wine #5 seemed to smell like a wine that was still being formed.

  216. June 7, 2008

WHAA??? Ok, so originally I was going to leave a comment about my love for the stemless Ridels. (I’m most likely to break the stem anyways.)

You did the right thing. GV you have done so many things right for all of us we should be more focused on that than this goof up. I screwed 12 things up last week… looks like you are ahead of me :)

BTW the “O”’s are way easier to deal with than other stemware. Now that we have a full set of “o”’s for most varietals for 6-8 person parties our other glasses haven’t seen the light of day.

I think you need to do a blind taste-off on WLTV against that fancy lad Brian Freedman from Classic Wines!!! Take him down to China-town Gary and show him what’s what!
