QOTD: favorite sports moment: When Ben Johnson won the 100 meter run in the summer olympics – as he slowed down and raised his index finger proclaiming his victory even before he crossed the finish line – it was fantastic!!

GV: check out Bruno Broglia gavi… it’s awesome.

QOTD: Jumbo Elliot catching the TD against the ‘Fins on MNF back in 2000. What a game!

GV: I think you’re going to have to update your thinking on what the demographics are for WineLibraryTV. We know it’s not age, but a mindset – but based on the comments I’ve read here, it should also include an a pitcher in a little league all star game.

I also fit this bill, and had a lot of similar experiences in baseball as well as other sports. However, the image I kept seeing when thinking back was not me, but my Dad. Everytime I thought about baseball, I saw my Dad in the backyard saying “come on now; pitch to the glove.” Or playing one-on-one basketball with me in the driveway with his homemade hoop attached to the garage. Thinking about it, he must have spent a billion hours palying some kind of ball with me. Can’t beat it.

QOTD: Senior year of high school standing at the center of the soccer field during district finals watching Old Glory wave in the wind. ::sigh:: good times.

2002, in the last game of the regular season, two of the top rated high school hockey teams that are long time rivals were playing for a conference championship. I had coached players from both teams for several years on an off season select team. It was a very fast, extremely physical, hard fought game that ended with a 1 goal difference. While the rest of the players glared at each other and the fans continued taunting each other and the players, the kids I had coached met at center ice embracing, congratulating each other and reminiscing. Priceless!

QOTD: On-loan goalkeeper (Jimmy Glass) scoring with the last kick of the last match of the 1999 season to keep Carlisle United in the English Football League. Basically saved the club from going out of existance. He was a rubbish goalkeeper though!

That is your best sign off ever. Short, sweet, and truth. Good show.

Won the Summer Series E fleet Championship in 2003. (Sailboat racing) That was the participative highlight. The Spectator Highlight was the 2001 Fiesta Bowl when my alma mater Oregon State Univ. beat the crap out of Bob Davies Notre Dame team with the future “Ocho Sinco” scoring at will. I was there that day with my family and we had a blast!

When Matt Hoffman pulled the first 900 on his warehouse halfpipe. That was huge. And the outtakes where he’s learning it and riding off the side into that pole – damn, that’s commitment.

Oh, and Steve Graham getting the first double back flip on camera. That was the turning point – a paradigm shift.

Had Sparina in my closet for the last couple of nights. Going to pop that one this weekend, see what folks think.

QOTD: My older sister was winning a race in high school track when one of her competitors fell down. She stopped and ran back to help them up.

QOTD – When Jim Leyritz’s home run tied game 4 of the 1996 World Series. Man, that was awesome!

QOTD: Eli Manning avoided what looked like a sack and completed a 32 yard pass to wide receiver David Tyree who made a leaping catch by pinning the ball on his helmet which put them at New England’s 24 yard-line. Four plays later, New York wide receiver Plaxico Burress caught the winning touchdown with 0:35 left. Giants quarterback Eli Manning, who threw both touchdown passes in the fourth quarter, was named the Most Valuable Player.

    Never had a Gavi… yet.

QOTD: 1) Watching my Son pitch his first Little League game and earning a last inning save.

    2) Winning the National Platform Tennis Championship Father-Son Tournament with my dear, departed Dad years ago which was a huge upset due to my ability. It was the only year the tournament was held to my knowledge.

Cool. I’ve been exploring Italian wines but don’t recall having a Gavi. Once again you’ve expanded my wine world. Thanks Gary.

    Edie and Andy

Edie’s favorite sports moment was when the Broncos took the Superbowl with John Elway’s winning touchdown. We really want to try to find some Gavi’s, they seem right up our alley!

My guess is this is GV’s way of drawing the “lurkers” out getting us … ahem them, to participate in the discussion.

Left one earlier, 1980 miracle on ice, but have to also give props to the 1987 PSU vs. Miami game. Go Lions!

i think gavi is new for me- thanks for the intro! QOTD: Raiders v Jeff Morgan 1996

  23. June 5, 2008

    Ryan Raf

QOTD: Has gotta be the 1980 winter olympics miracle on ice. One of the greatest if not THE greatest upsets in sports history. The equivalent of the US mens hockey team beating the Russians would be akin to a college football team beating teams like the 49ers or Cowboys during their respective dynastys.

    QOTD: Cal Ripken – 2131 @ B-more, MD.
