just saw your lagrein show here! great! i am a big big fan of wine from südtirol and run the page “wein aus südtirol” on facebook.

my two favorite lagreins are grieser riserva “select” by rottensteiner and riserva praepositus by kloster neustift.

let me know if you don’t get it in the usa. i will send it to you.

O.m.g, I'm sooo late on this! Just finding out.. Great show! Love the passion and I love Alto Adige!!! My favorit Lagrein is Cantina Terlan Lagrein Porphyr… Great, complex, thick Red, with licorice, dark, dark chocolate and at the same time mineral and elegant… wow! B.t.w. love all the whites from A.A.! But check out another red, Elena Walch Merlot Kastelatz!! I had the 2004 and was blown away, a little edgy and not just round but very big wine, with lots of spices, it came in a box with Cab. Sauv. (very nice) and the white blend 'Beyond the clouds'!!! Which brings you right there!

Lagrein is also produced in Australia, and has been comercially since 1998, firstly in the Macedon Ranges, at 610m elevation in granatic sand, by Cobaw Ridge. The wines are full bodied, rich, and true to variety.

They are available in limited quantities in the U.S.

Great show Gary! As chance would have it the local Santa Barbara Winery in my home town produces an excellent Lagrein varietal for $30…. I try to grab a bottle about once a month. It is the only one I have tried but I love it’s bigness and have merely been lazy about seeking out others. I will do so, however, and I’ll let you know if anything blows me away! Santa Barbara also produces a Negrette that is almost just as big and tasty…. have you done a show on this varietal?
