OOTD – It may be too late for today but how about a Riesling ep? Call the show “Rising for a Riesling”?

My show idea: Out of place wines…wines made from grapes not typical for their region. Just a way to think a little differently about some varietals.
    Possible Wines:
    Kanu Sauvignon Blanc (S. Africa)
Shaw and Smith Sauvignon Blanc (Australia)
    Catena Chardonnay (Argentina)
    Couer D’alene Viognier (Washington)
    Takler Szekszard Rose (Hungary)
    La Linda Tempranillo (Argentina)
    Kendermanns Pinot Noir (Germany)

Pick a few, looks like fun to me

    Breaking preconceptions; expanding wine horizons:
    Kourtakis Patras Kouros White 2006 – 33793

    Quaffable and refreshing:
    Pepiere Muscadet Sur Lie 2007 – 39465

Breaking preconceptions; Oxidized monster is good:
    YOU MUST TRY TIS ONE
Lopez De Heredia Tondonia Blanco Rioja Gran Reserva 1981 – 31093
(THE 88 would be perfect, though)

Good show, Gary. Good area to explore.

I figured that the blind tasting ending was some sort of trust your pal lesson. I appreciate your efforts to be impartial. I was impressed.

And for those too invested in that particular show: one wine won out. It may not have won out for you, so why not go out and try some cabs?

    Wine Wizard!!

I was watching some of your older shows, and I saw you take the bottle cover off by just grabing it and pulling. I tried it myself last night, it worked, and to be honest, I felt like a wine badass. Thanks for the new trick!

QOTD: I’m with YoungDave “other French Sparklers”. ALSO – You talk about “growers champagne” too – how about diving into those. When it comes to popular champagnes every one has tasted it, knows it and doesn’t want to invest 30 or 40 bones into something they don’t like so ya get stuck in that rut (white zin box if you will) because you don’t drink these very often. I enjoy a bottle with friends every week…but I would love to bring to the table something different which I usually do cause of what I’ve learned from you GV!

    1722 – Varnier-fanniere Champagne Brut ‘grand Cru’ 34.99
27896 Pierre Morlet Grand Reserve 29.98
9709 – Pierre Peters Cuvee Speciale Blanc De Blancs 1999
(I know you already did this but it would be nice to revisit)

People get over the episode – life goes on in a much bigger place!!

HOLY SHIT!!!!! To those of you still deeply troubled by the blind cab episode…I say to you, GET A F-ING LIFE!!! Come on people, GV does this great wine show for free and you beat him up over one little slip up. He gave us a perfectly good explanation for what happened….MOVE ON! Go pop a bottle and RELAX, give your keyboard a rest!!

    Great show as always GV!!!

I am out of the country for two weeks and looks like I have missed some massive controversy.

I have no doubts about Gary’s authenticity (may e-mail a little later).

    QOTD:

Since I just got back from France a Rhone show. The wines are really strong in the Cotes du Rhone Villages and provide great value. Also, the boundaries are so arbitrary for the A.O.C. you get great QPR on some of the lesser CRUs

89 points doesn’t scare me. I’m a little hesitant under 87 but since I can afford under 87, I buy under 87. I usually don’t know scores of wines I’m buying. More word of mouth recommendations.
