    Gary,

So glad to see you reviewing a Denner wine! I happen to love them too – hence the reason for the screenname above. Sorry I missed the cutoff for the QOTD…selfishly I’d just be requesting reviews for MORE Denner wines…or Hansen wines from the Paso area.

    Cheers!

    Re: Episode 477

You may be a little obnoxious sometimes ;-) BUT you have always called things as you saw them. In my book that is called honesty. I would not have thought you had something up your sleeve.

Call me clueless, and you wouldn’t be the first, but after viewing the “full” episode for the cab tasting, I still don’t understand why it had to be edited, cut and hidden under a link. I thought I heard Gary mention something about “private”, maybe private label in this episode? It still makes no sense to me.

gary should talk about the whole rev3 thing and make us feel better that we won’t HAVE to go there to watch the show. =)

    Pete G

    Great concept show. Loved it.

QOTD: Pete G is gonna back Phil G on this one. Since you talked about your love of pink (ok rose) wine in the book, let’s do an around-the-world rose show. Say a rose of malbec (Krios), a rose of sangiovese (Il Mimo) a Rhone rose (Paralell 45 maybe or something better). Really show the Vaniyacs how good rose can be.

    Oregon Jim

I was going to recommend an Oregon Pinot taste off, then thought let’s get real, most of us really need recommendations on what to try in the bottom feeder market. We who have wine with meals every day can’t always roll with wines over $15 every day. Those on a beer budget need to know when they do buy wine what is good (QPR wise) in the 5 to 7 dollar range. Give it up for the CKC! Nothing over 9.99. Available everywhere.

    Cabrilla

Thanks very much for posting 477 in its entirety. No conspiracy fodder, lots of edutainment. AND ZOMG- my dog is named Roo! (Ironically she’s a gascon hound and not an aussie, but there you go.) So that really made me smile.

QOTD: I like the previous suggestions for a Rhone Rangers vs. Real Rhone, but also for all petit verdot or non-Champagne French sparklers. (Je trouve le cremant de Limousin tres sympa.)

BUT how about for the upcoming 4 July, a little all-American action with a show on Norton varietal wines? I’ve recently had a couple from Georgia and Virginia that were quite good (mirabile dictu) and not at all what I expected.

Or, hey! How about a show about Irouleguy? Or a show about tannat-based wines from around the world (Uruguay, Argentina, California, Virginia, Georgia, ???). You’ve done similar shows for other varietals, and I think tannat would be an really interesting case study because its expression form country to country is so VERY different. Talk about terroir….

Show keeps getting better all the time. QOTD (Bourgogne from Burgundy or Cru Beaujolais, which wine is more interesting?) MICHEL CHIGNARD MORIERS FLEURIE 2006, THEVENET MORGON 2006, GERARD MUGNERET BOURGOGNE 2006.

    Gary,

I tried a cab you recommended that YOOOOOUUU were so accurate you scared
me!!! I think you should travel to California. You mentioned Paso Robles,
this was my first wine festival. There were 110 wineries with unlimited
tastings. This was overwhelming…WOOOOOOOOOW!!! You were so accurate on
the Casa cab I tasted I beginning to think the program is pre-scripted(NO
WAY, JUST kIDDING> Love your show (no longer a lurker)

QOTD: Obviously you need to do a show on your favorite varietal: Petit Verdot

I was having myself a good ol’ throwback and watched your holiday season episodes and I remember bringing Cycles Gladiators wines. The fam was giving me high fives they liked them so much.

I suggest you taste the Cab, Merlot and Pinot and maybe get a gladiator hat/bucket. Winelib says you got em. Doooooo it Gary!

I was at a wine tasting of 4 Core wines (2004 vintage) last year. They did not have the Red blend, but did have several other blends. My favorite was “Hard Core” – Grenache, Syrah and Cabernet – and not just because of the name :-) .

    I posted a few notes: http://gumption.typepad.com/wine/2007/02/a_hard_core_win.html

GV – 89s are all good! I’m out for a week to get married – but can’t wait to get back and catch up on all the shows (missing the Boston book signing!). Until then – keep it real man!
