My favorite Texas wine is the Messina Hoff port. They make many wines, and several ports, but my favorite is their most expensive port. It comes from their vineyard in College Station, Texas. I forget the exact name. It is lighter, and fruitier than traditional ports, but it is excellent nevertheless. I have also had several very good ports from other Texas wineries. Sadly, however, Texas weather is really not port weather--it is too hot for 10 1/2 months of the year. But, it could be enjoyed in colder climates. Try it.

I'm from Texas, and I have to say that for some reason, a lot of the wineries out here (to make a sweeping generalization) leave waaaaaay too much residual sugar in their wines. Particularly the reds. A lot of Texas producers bottle what they call "Sweet Red Table Wine".
I agree that Viognier has tons of potential here. As soon as I get back from Napa this year, I am embarking on a texas wine quest.

I couldn't agree more! Becker is notoriously one dimensional and needless to say...way over-hyped (and over priced for that matter). I'm a fan of a few of the Black Label Grape Creek wines.

Someone needs to get Vaynerchuk some good Texas wines.... I am totally ashamed of the selections that he has tasted...Texas has not been represented well.

I know Im a little late on this one, but being a Texan I felt I should ring in. I try to like Texas wines but usually have similar results to this episode. There are some good ones but, there sure are a lot of bad ones too. Ill recommend:
Flat Creek's Super Texan
Mcpherson Sangiovese
Mcpherson Tre Colore
Alamosa El Guapo Tempranillo

That 94 Rockets Knicks series was awesome. And I'll go ahead and say it before football season kicks off. The Longhorns are going to take the National Championship this year.

Briana from Penoach Winery in Adel, Iowa. It's a white blend, I'm not sure what's in it, I'm sure mostly Americana varities, but it has a lot more body and more controlled sweetness than pretty much any other winery around here. Plus they run out of it every year before the end of the farmer's market season which means other people like it too....
