QOTD: Toured some of the CT wineries this weekend and was definitely surprised by the caliber of these places (I was expecting a shack with a more “Ma’ and Pa’ feel). The quality of the wines was decent (lots of Chard) but I was very excited to see many of them going un-oaked.

Great show! Way to go CCKC. (Community College Kid Crew).

QOTD: On a sad note, I am surprised how fast the economy has gone in the dump and the gas prices have gone so high :(

Hey, thought I would leave a comment today based on the fact that I have been mostly a lurker since watching your show, maybe posting once or twice, but understanding that you can’t pigeonhole me since my ip address changes every so often because we roll with Comcast(who I hate). When are you going to do a PS?(Petit Sirah)? I have watched at least a year’s worth of shows, but the only Petit Sirah you have done has been part of a blend with CS, PV, and others. I know it would be hard to do with the long decant times and the planning involved, but it would make us PS nation fanatics very happy if you did. Let’s do it on a laid-back Monday! That couch needs some PS up in its grillpiece, and I’ve got just the prescription for it: MORE PS.

Biggest surprise this year—that I actually went to the Holy Land. Never in a gazillion years did I think I would seriously entertain the thought, let alone do it, because, wellllll—who wants to go to the Mideast??!! It was the most awesome experience of my life (almost—the birth of my son still ranks above it). WOW!!

QOTD: Biggest shock I’ve had this year was in a book. No, not yours, sorry. It was none other than Moby Dick. I never thought I’d read it, but I did and I was shocked by how insanely awesome it was.

QOTD: Northern Italy (Friuli and Alto Adige) has been shocking me lately, specifically with Traminer and Blaubergunder).

Suspicious, Oh yes. Just a bit. I think so. It freezes there quite solidly, then drenches, then fry’s, then humidifies, then drys, did I mention wind? The vines have to survive at least five years of this kind of love! Vitus Vinifera? Outdoors in Oklahoma? I am just a bit suspicious, that’s all.

The Nasty Boys were awesome!!!! And up the Community College Kids!!!

The Chapel Creek was a major outlier – who would have predicted? Did some reading – Redland Community College – they won an NSF grant to implement the program. sound like the professor knows what he’s doing.

However, other wines I have tried from the midwest are lousy table wines that are far too sweet or just completely off. Because of the cold weather, the choice of grapes in the midwest are so drab – nothing like California.

Wow, that was amazing: I have the slightest clue that people in Oklahoma made wine.

    QoTD: I was somehow convinced (by people I didn’t know, actually) to try diving — which, even a few years ago, is something that I’d have *never* seen myself doing — in December … and I *loved* it. A few hours ago, I dropped in at a scuba school to register to do my certification in a few weeks :~}

What’s also surprising is that you (GV) are going to be in Seattle soon!

    Best tag teams:
Road Warriors, Hart Foundation, Steiners, Midnight Express, and because I loved them – The Killer Bees.

I agree with Mark. Maryland wine show would be interesting. Elk Cove “Sweet Katharine” is quite nice.

QOTD: I’m too old for surprises. Nothing shocks me anymore.

See ya Thursday G-Man. Now THAT will surprise me. :)

    Cheers!

    I’m curious, Gary.
Do you think it was the quality of the fruit, or the winemaking that made the Community College wine so exceptional? Thanks for the energizing show – that’s why I watch!
