good show, good show, sarah is a good vaniac and learned the ways of the force. she even has a little sass… beware, not all wine has sass though. i like the new intro BTW, i meant to drop that in the comments before.
QOTD: no fucking clue. i have wines that i really like. but as the days, moods seasons change, so do whats needed at the table. i am drinking a lot more whites, and roses as of late cause syrah, cabs and even pinot is a little too much right now. i do need to open some good cote du rhone for the BBQ this week and i might crack a nice bottle of st emilion this week casue good friends are visiting form paris. yeah!
i will look for the CDP. i did not get to drink any this past fall / winter… so sad. i will make up for it next year.

QOTD Can’t think of a wine I would want to drink every day. But if I were restricted to one wine I would still go for Ridge Montebello. Maybe twice a week.
Sara’s a great choice for a guest. I’d love to hear her sing. Felicitations on the wedding.
I’m looking forward to trying the Oklahoma wines. The sister of a friend of ours lives in Norman and offered to drive to El Reno for the wine. She phoned ahead and was assured that they would set aside 4 bottles of Meritage for her. When she got there those 4 bottles were the only ones left. They said they had calls from all over the country and from Europe. They didn’t know anything about WLTV, but now they do.

QOTD: Adjust….I’d have to change it to the 1976 Chateau d’Yquem. I have only had it once…and I’m dying to try it again.

Wooo Ho! Comment # 100! Always awesome to see a guest on the show…and it was a very fun show to watch. Hmmm…my favorite wine of all time. If I had to drink only one wine for the next ten years…I’d have to say I’d pick

QOTD: 1996 Dom Perignon…it’s so versatile with food, I just had to pick it. Hate to pick the baller, bottle, but it is classic juice!

Excellent job Sara! Like a good Vayniac you don’t follow rules, not even Gary’s. I noticed you cleansing your pallet with water after the first wine. The only time I remember Gary doing that was the dirt (and such) eating episode. Nice call with the eraser. In your place, my responses would be about as deep as Mott’s… I like this one, I don’t like this one. No offense Mott, I love you man. I wore your shirt for my daily walk yesterday. QOTD: Last time I declared a wine to be my favorite was over 20 years ago. It was 1982 Rodney Strong Pinot Noir. Back then I was also fond of Sebastiani cab. I cut my teeth on stainless steel aged Gallo Hearty Burgundy. The oaky Rodney Strong was new and exotic to me. I haven’t had any in over 20 years. My latest wine kick started late in 2007. I bought a couple of bottles of ’06. I haven’t tried one yet. I doubt it will still be my favorite. Some discoveries I’ve made this year include Iron Stone Cab Franc and Cune Rioja Crianza [tempranillo]. Warning, anyone afraid of the big oak guy, should probably stay away from my choices!

Long time viewer and wine lover; had to leave a comment: Sara Leib is awesome. Have her back. It’s great to have someone comfortable in front of the camera, comfortable with her palate, and plays well with Gary’s awesomeness and brilliant reviews!

QOTD – Pride Chardonnay (really! – and I really like reds!)

great show!!! interesting how you can bring up different tastes than realize it afterward.

QOTC: I’m going with the Hellar Estates Dancing Meritage….AMAZING. Possibly next to it the Pulenta Estates Cabernet Malbec blend.

    Nice show guys!

    QoTd
It is impossible to pick just one wine, but there are wine styles that I could stay with:
Aromatic, rich whites and softer reds.

  21. June 28, 2008

    Cabrilla

My wine horizon has been expanded! Albeit in ways Gary probably never intended… I’d never heard of Cisco until now. Don’t think my Pal would approve of it, though, at least based on these most excellent tasting notes:

I really can’t pick one particular wine out that I loved more than any other, but if I were forced to, it would be the 1990 Chateau Suduiraut, a charming and robust Sauternes from a banner year in the region.

Red: Really, a 3-way tie between the ‘96 Tenuta Friggiali Brunello di Montalcino, the ‘02 Falcor Cab, and 2005 Keller Estate Pinot Noir La Cruz Vineyard… though I have VERY strong old world leanings in general, I haven’t had (or been able to afford) old world wines beyond the brunello (which had some new world qualities anyway) that would knock my socks off so much… yet – though I know they’re out there.

White: A tie between 2004 Jean-Marc Brocard Chablis 1er Cru Fourchaume, 1997 Maison Leroy Bourgogne Blanc, and the 2005 Domaine St. Benoit Châteauneuf-du-Pape Elegance — though again, I know there is better out there, I just haven’t had it yet.

Sparkling: 1999 Dom, most definitely, though I’ve had some good NV’s from other labels.

Dessert: Definitely two come to mind – 1990 Chateau Suduiraut, and 1971 Chateau Caillou. Ahh, I love Sauternes.

Favorite? Charles Krug (Peter Mondavi) Cab
