Gary when I came across this episode, I had to comment (even though this is almost 300 episodes ago!) I did undergrad in Maryland, and I had the 2005 Basignani Cabernet Sauvignon (if you can even call it that) as part of a 3-week wine tasting course. This is my review (which is up on Corkd btw) verbatim, from when I tasted it in January of this year:
"I need to preface this by saying maybe I had a bad bottle (not corked, but something was definitely way off about this wine)
This wine was extremely briary, with a bizarre metallic and acidic taste. It was basically undrinkable. This might be an anomaly, but I can only tell you what I experienced with the particular bottle I tried. 55/100."
SO yeah...a terrrible product. However, I did have a pretty serviceable wine from Maryland and I would LOVE to see you try it on the Thundershow. 2006 Boordy Vineyards Chardonnay. That review is also up on Corkd, tasted the same day as the Basignani disaster: http://corkd.com/wine/view/62246-2006-boordy-chardonnay.

Gary, MD ISN'T checked off that list. basignani isn't a wine. It's awful, everyone I've had is bad. I' don't know who gave, or recommended that to you. Best thing about that winery is the label, which is a joke.
Md liquor laws are awful too, which I guess is a good thin when it comes to this wine.
If you wanna check Maryland off your list, try another one please. You should go with Black Ankle winery. They are making great MD wines right now.

I agree that Basignani is a bust. I tried it at the Maryland Wine Festival last year, and it was a disaster. Big lines, over-rated. Same with Boordy, so I'm glad to see that you haven't tried any of theirs.

On the MD Eastern Shore boutique winery called Tilmon's Island. Unlike anything else I had tried from in-state. Difficult to get hands on, but worth it, if you can.

MD wineries can not send you wines to taste as the law prohibits the shipping of alcohol IN or OUT of MD.

How do we change that?????

Macho Man was tight. Tiiiiiight. Though I hated his decline in the WCW and his lame role in the NWO ( one of the worst angles in wrestling history....ok, ill admit Hogan turning heel shocked everyone, but come on, the NWO lasted far longer then it needed to. didnt matter, the WWF was kicking taik with Stone Cold, the Rock, and Mick Foley anyway. Thank GOD the WWF won that war). Ouch on the last wine. I feel for them, but what can you do? QOTD: Sometimes these sites that explain wine shipping laws are confusing. Id love to be able to send you some Icicle Ridge wines if I could. I need to check this out further.

I'm coming to this one a little late, but a very interesting episode nonetheless. I'm not surprised by your evaluation, and wonder if you were a little gracious towards Chaddsford. I tried their Pinot Noir and thought it was terrible. I hear they make a very nice Meritage, but I'm not anxious t find it.

I lived out west for 20 years, and have been to Napa, Sonoma, and the Santa Ynez areas. Now that I am in Pennsylvania, I've been trying the wines here and in Ohio. I am thoroughly unimpressed by the Pennsylvania wines, especially the reds. Granted, I've tried only around 15 thus far, but not one has been memorable, let alone worth any amount of money.

I've been satisfied by one Ohio winery so far: Laurello Winery in the Lake Erie region. They produce a few "Super Tuscan" blends that are actually pretty good.
