How can you short a wine?

Sell it now at a high price then buy it back later at a cheap price? But you’d need to buy it first at the high price! Just wait and buy it at a cheap price later…so the QOTD is actually asking which wines are going to fall in price over the next 12 months..Now I see..

Tough one but I’d have to say that if we include Futures buying, Bordeaux 2007. I also see some potential for Californian Cult Cabs to take a downturn. There are a heck of a lot of people on wine blogs complaining about getting tired of paying USD300+ per bottle in order to keep their mailing list allocations, and a lot of consumers keen to diversify, explore, find value with more value driven producers.

Crazy show! Wow, very nice to see that a serious game like you guys play can make so much fun! Thanks for this show! Great!

Loved the show. This guy Cramer has too much energy! Never really got into wine as an investment. Even with more expensive wines I’m really just buying them to drink…and see what’s worth the money and what’s not. I have a lot to learn!

Jim C was a great guest, so much passion, he just couldn’t stop talking, there’s barely enough space for both of you in one episode.

    Gary, Great show!
The “Crameresque” quality of WLTV is what drew me here in the first place. Jimmy! I love to see you out of your element! You and me at Roots drinking Port….mmmmmmmmmmm

    Can’t wait for #500

My friend that knows I like wines and Cramer sent me this show….
What a HOOT… Enough to make me start experimenting with wines
and watching this show and collecting some wines again ;-)
….and as Cramer said… “Love those dividends” ;-)
Thanks for speaking Main Street’s language
and helping the rest of us appreciate wine again
for more than the usual swil.
Can’t wait till you bring Cramer back for the CA wines ;-)

“Ice in veins equals big dollars” No emotions when making decisions doesn’t mean no heart, right? Gary you seem like you have a lot of heart. Icy veins to maximize profits gets us in trouble personally and as a nation…I think.
Great show. I kept wanting to see you two in a bar setting in some sort of David Mamet directed sequel to Glengarry Glen Ross. Good Chemistry.
What about Chateauneuf-du-Pape ‘01 and ‘04 as an investment? They have two for around $30 where I shop that the wine steward tells me would be good investments. Gary you sold me on investing in wine! Thanks

    Awesome!!! Totally awesome.

Loved the way you couldn’t get Jim to slow down and “smell the roses”. I think he was buzzing around the 30 minute mark.

    Hilarious and extremely entertaining. Kudos.

Ever since they took CNBC off my cable system I’ve been sad. This episode made me happy. Passion squared!

    Hey Gary,

I’ve been watching your show for quite a while now, and I’ve been blown away with your frankness, passion, and original approach to describing wine. I think that episode #499 was thoroughly entertaining…you and Cramer fed off each other like no other. As someone interested in investing in wine, however, I do have to say that I was a bit disappointed. I was hoping for some actual sage advice in the stock realm of wine, which, I believe, could also be a potential source of investment, as there are various publicly traded wine companies. I’m new to all of this, so perhaps it was naive to hope for such a thing, but I would have loved to hear Jim’s comments on the state of the wine market.

Great show, #1 of all time and I’ve seen all 500.

now THAT WAS ONE AWESOME SHOW !!!!!!!!!!!!! top 3 all time, easily….

    kudos,kudos, kudos….

QOTD: sorry Jimmy, don’t think that concept applies here, really.

    best to both !!

HOLY COW!!! Great episode! It has been awhile for me, thanks Gary and Jim.

QOTD: I have to say any low end from Australia (Alice White, Yellowtail) because shipping costs alone should double the price of it ;) Too bad it is all about quantity with those big vineyards.

I do like the small vineyards like in Bordeaux. It just seems like quality is more important and the methods of managing the terroir seem more structured. Vintage is more important to small vineyards than in big ones like Cali and Aussie.

Awesome show! Liked the wines and the talk.

QOTD: Many 02 Bordeaux have been disappointing as have been 03 California reds.

That was a lot of Jersey on one small screen! Fun show; you two are a good match-up. I’m not sure how to answer the QOTD unfortunately. Keep it real GV.

I watched this show when there were abot 15 comments – all of which were positive. I felt a little odd as this show really, really, really didn’t do it for me. Than I just attended the 500th episode live and heard a lot of comments like “#499 was the greatest show ever.” Sorry to say but episode #499 was just wrong for me, and I wouldn’t mind if you waited another 499 episodes before bringing Jim Kramer back. Maybe it was the focus on investing rather than enjoying wine, or the prices, which were just way beyond what I would spend on myself and would even hesitate to spend when someone else picked up the tab. In my mother’s words, the show was “different” – which was not a good thing in our hosehold. In any case, if you’re keeping score, put me down on the side of NO to this kind of GV video blog.

    RonD

This is the best WLTV show to date, bar none!

Can Jim become a “regular” guest?

Tho’ the concept is a bit too esoteric for me personally, it was kinda fun being pulled through that knothole backwards! Lots of wine education there too, for those who cared to listen.

I’ll bet the haters aren’t doing so well at expanding their pals either.

“Not for wine lovers.” ?? No, Sir Gary wouldn’t have been amused. Nor the sundry other “red wine only for me, thanks” types

Alternative perspective: “This will be a super classic episode for sure down the line.”
Yes, or it could be a jump the shark moment…

This is definitely the episode that I have been waiting for. Not because Jim Cramer was on, but just listening Gary and Jim, who is the type of person I deal with where I work, talk about their palates and the 05 bourdeaux’s. Personally, I think the 04’s were where it was at, but I agree none the less.

Also, it’s nice to see a comments section where everyone isn’t bashing each other.
