Another first time poster / lurker. I love wine.woot too and am a proud owner of a woot monkey.

    QOTD: Bread if anything.

Love the special guest shows! Keep them coming!

QOTD: unsalted crackers work best for me, followed by a bit of water.

The Hayne Vineyard bottle looks so righteous!

QOTD: I rarely cleanse, but when I do, water.

Solid show, GV. To cleanse my pallet I simply have a sip of water and a sniffy sniff of some coffee beans. When are we going to have an ice wine show?

QOTD: Whatever I feel like. Water, bread, nothing.

I’m a big fan of woot and shirt.woot but unfortunately I live in a state where they can’t ship me wine.

I have found that at trade tastings I need to find different foods to cleanse my palate. I will switch from cheese, to bread, to beef, and shrimp. I don’t personally think that there is one “end-all be-all” palate cleanser for me…but I like a variety…just like I like my wines as a variety.

Great show, haven’t pulled the trigger on a woot deal yet, but will when the weather is better for shipping.
    Why you dissing Mott?
    QOTD: Water and Crackers.

Nice job, guys! Good to see the #2 wine-guy-on-the-internet bringing the #1-wine-guy-on-the-internet onto his show. :D

    Shows with guests ROCK!

    QOTD: None

I don’t really like hearing you dis Mott in his absence. I see the word “mott” becoming a job title for an internet/video tech guy. Then it wouldn’t matter if Eric or somebody else was working that day. He/she would still be that episode’s mott and you could still yell “Mott … Link it up!”

great to see somebody else asked the palate cleansing question that I posted a while back. Gary – what’s your answer?!

  16. July 16, 2008

QOTD: When I’m tasting wine at wine shops, I do not cleanse my palate. Sometimes after a very dry wine, I need to take a break and unpucker. If I had a choice, I would cleanse my palate with good cheese and crackers or good cheese with good bread.

    Great show.

QOTD: Either a rinse with the nest wine or completely bland white bread- NOT salty or buttery or overly toasted or anything that would complicate tasting the wine. Also, specifically, no foods with perceptible acidity, sweetness, bitterness, fattiness, or significant protein content should be used when evaluating wine- when enjoying wine, ABSOLUTELY eat food and experiment with different pairings, but not when evaluating wine for what it is on its own.

Very good show Gary! I liked it alot!

QOTD: I’m using bread and water. Thats it.

Hi Gary, I don’t taste many wines at a time, so usually I don’t cleanse
my palette or just drink some water.

Love the monkey. Got to get one for my next medical meeting. That would break the ice. Didn’t know the WOOT concept but it sounds interesting. Have had the Wellington and Chase wines and apparently I like them more than GV. My palette cleansers are crackers and water.

QoTd: Fried Bananas – if you don’t believe me – try for yourself!

GREAT SHOW – Really cool to endorse the competition – GV you have the same mind set as Mondavi – if one of us looks good – we all look good!

Anxious about the France Experience winners – I’ve officially set vacation time aside – hopefully I’ll get a chance to use it. Wife also gave me permission today as well! That was the bigger issue!

QOTD: Ginger! That stuff leaves your palette cleansed.

QOTD – I prefer to use some water, or nothing between tastings. By the second sip, I feel that my palate has fully ‘transitioned’…

I’m glad you can have a sense of objectivity with wine producers. Nice. I dislike the wine glasses with no stem. It’s ugly aesthetically. Anyway.

i like “water” crackers to cleanse my palate.

water and water crackers seem to do the trick for me.

    aka Mike in Nebraska.
