What a coincidence. Your looking for an American girl and I’m looking for a French Chateau owner. Seriously though, we’d be great together if I could just get rid of my boyfriend.

    Petty lurker reporting.
Don’t know if I help by posting this but it was little distracting listening to the cameraman (Ian?) breathing, he was kinda too close to the mic.

Other than that I have only praises, great show.

This is the type of episode I really enjoy. Not only do you get to (virtually) taste the wines, but the particular wines that you are enjoying are put into perspective, i.e. the particular winery & region. Great stuff; keep it up Gary V.

Good fun, I think I’ll really anjoy these Bordeaux shows. I really like the ending shots of the vineyards, it’s great to see them and get a sense of the terroir. I’d welcome more of that.

  37. July 16, 2008

    Hido

Great show Gary! I would love to see more shows that include the winery owners and wine makers. Great insight! That being said, I wouldn’t want that to happen at the expense of the shows from the office where you really break down the wines. Those are the shows where you bring the true thunder.

Good show, I can’t wait until I have the money to grab a couple bottles of really nice Bordeaux. Right now I’m stuck in that $40 and under price range and honestly most of the time they are under $25 a bottle. I’ve been able to find some good stuff at that price point though. Probably why I like California Zinfandel so much is because the California Cabs and the French reds I’m drinking aren’t good enough examples of that particular varietal or region. Ahhh yes, interesting indeed Daniel son.

For a percentage of the Chateau, I’ll be your girlfriend. That aside…….why are you conducting the show inside a very large oak barrel? Pretty hard to hear you’all. Really enjoyed the tour of the winery. Could use more.

  51. July 16, 2008

    Rick D

Great show. I’ve got to find some Chateau Clinet 2005. I am relatively new to wine (less than 2 years)and I have been truly enjoying both Bordeaux and Southern Rhone. Too bad the Euro is kicking our butts which prices many French wines out of my reach except for special occasions. Still looks like some Bordeaux futures should be in my near future.

QOTD: Let me introduce Ronan to my 28 year old daughter, she is a dish, a spitting image of her mom. Unfortunately she does not drink wine, but I would gladly drink her share.

  52. July 16, 2008

I Love this type of Episode! Good interview. Great insight to the wine maker and what he was thinking, very cool!

QOTD – I have a great friend living in D.C. who is not freaking intellegent and very also hot! Ronan, you email me back and I’ll get you two in touch, I think she may even be traveling to Spain soon on business, and your are only a quick hop, skip and a jump from there…;)

  55. July 16, 2008

    Tom L

Unbelieveable episode. I’ve never been to France, but Gary has taken me there. I tought there was supposed to be some big surprize at the end of the episode, but maybe that’s coming later.

QOTD: You can’t have my daughters.

  56. July 16, 2008

    Anthony L.

Very cool interview. How about a full tour of a vineyard on a future episode

Ah, Bordeaux, you are lucky Gary! Great episode, and thanks for the look around the vineyard. I’ve heard that in some parts of Bordeaux the vineyards have been passed down so much that there could be hundreds of owners in a few acres of land.

  71. July 16, 2008

    Dominus

This “kid” runs a chateau? Please . . . and he’s looking for a girlfriend? Stick with the wine my man, it’s much easier on you, trust me.

That aside, a great show. I lovvvvve Bordeaux and it doesn’t get much better than this.

QOTD: Do you like the Colts? :)

    Cheers

Hehehe… Sorry, I can’t help with the American girlfriend request. :-)

    Great show!

Was the show uploaded incorrectly? It’s supposed to be #502, but the opening was “Episode #503″.

    Looking forward to seeing more!

  73. July 16, 2008

    sam

Interesting show. Full of info. It’s good to have a winemaker share his knowledge about the background of wine-making. Drinking wine, a lot is taken for granted…A lot of work goes into producing a fine product. Makes you wonder about all the made-in-China crap most americans (and quebeckers) are overly used to.

Great shout-out to all the people involved in wine-making that go unnoticed and unheared of. Next time we open any bottle of wine, we should thank the un-named…

QOTD: I’m too old. And I’m married. Good luck.

    Good show.

We bought 2005 Bordeaux but no big names. Nothing very expensive. Hopefully it’s good enough for our palates.

  82. July 16, 2008

    Moselman

Gary, I hope you slipped Ronan one of Pipes’ cards. I think she deserves to be in a threesome with Susan and Paulie vying for a Dionysian prize. And were he interested, I could probably find that Dionysiac a trio of CC Vaniacs, too – from right here in the Okanagan!
And who was the urbane “Shadowman”; is that what you called him?

    Superb show!!

This stuff is fantastic. Getting to see a bit of the different wine regions of the world without having to leave my apartment is awesome. However, it won’t be enough to keep me from visiting a lot of them in person!

QOTD: Unless you like guys for girlfriends, I am of no use. I guess I could hook you up… but I’m guessing you will be getting at least 100 offers!

  84. July 16, 2008

    pawncop

A great episode, as most are. I agree that additional tours of vineyards and wineries would be great.

QOTD – Best of luck, my hooking up days are soooooo long past.

  85. July 16, 2008

    C-Lo

That was a nice episode GV, I really enjoyed it. I need to get back to France to visit more wine country. QOTD: you know it’s funny that Ronan would mention wanting an American girlfriend, because throughout the whole episode I was thinking “I need a cute French boyfriend just like him.” Hook a sister up GV! Keep it real.

Gary, stop selling yourself out. You look un-natural somehow… You are the best when you are not pushing yourself to promote things. You are the best when you just talk about things you love. It will bring you money. Dont worry.

Loved the show. I’ll have to watch it again – the French accent was a little difficult for me to understand. But American women love French accents.
QOTD: I hear there are a lot of Americans in Paris.

QOTD- Hmm.. Help me find an French girlfriend and I try to help you find an American one. Haha. I wish.. Nice episode. I would love to visit wine country Bordeaux or Southern France. Why did you not have the lavalier mics on? You would have not picked you the echo? Anyway.. I would love to try those wines.

    Excellent show!

  112. July 17, 2008

    Richard Ritter

Gary behaved himself somewhat in this episode, maybe due to the fact that he wasn’t in his own digs. The sound is horrific. Splurge for some quality mics for cryin’ out loud, and quit tourturing us please. I loved that Ronan was genuinely interested in the scores, a good indication of the clout that Gary is carrying in his reviews.

QOTD: Stay single. I don’t think too many women would pass on the French wine chateau owner thing. Milk it for all it’s worth.

  113. July 17, 2008

Classic show! Would love to try the 05 Clinet, but it is around 100€ in Germany.

  115. July 17, 2008

Great show, especially the vineyard mini-tour at the end. I’ll have to stop at Chateau Clinet if I ever make it over to Bordeaux.

    Leif erik Sundstrom

    QOTD: ….Uuuuuhhh?

  117. July 17, 2008

    Smahlatz

Gary, Gary, Gary – Math needs work. 2005 100% up on 2004. Coming down 32% from 2005 price leaves the price only 36 pts up on 2004, not 68. (eg say 2004 = 100 which makes 2005 100% up = 200. 32 down from 200 is 136 – 136 is 36% up on the original 2004 price of 100). But I’m guessing you’ve got some good people doing your finances :) Numbers are of value somewhere, though as you say, not necessarily with assessing wine attractiveness.

It’s too bad that 05 has irrevocably raised the prices of Bordeaux, but it’s good to hear 06 is so good.

But a skilled, charming French winemaker shouldn’t have to make a call to WLTV listeners for an American gf. ;-)

Q-I know plenty of chicks that would like to meet Ronan.

QOTD: I would look for more than just ‘American’, you could do better as far as girlfriends go :} That is my answer is far as the question goes. Worst QOTD that I’ve seen so far.

BTW: Love the end of the video when we get to see the vineyards, etc. Good stuff.

  128. July 17, 2008

    Mike

Nice show. Loved the insight into the ‘06 and ‘07 vintage.

  129. July 17, 2008

    Not A Lurker N E More

A great Show ! Much better than #500, but not as good as #499. I especially liked the way Ronan grinned when you rated the wines. I really enjoy the shows when you have a guest to bounce off of. You and Kramer were a couple of madmen on 499, but it made for a great show. Keep up the good work and I’ll keep watching. Oh Yeah, the wines were good too ! ;)

HI G.V. –Lovely show as usual. Being a not yet betrothed woman, the QOTD is awesome! Single, 32, available in Columbus, OH, and loves great wine. Did I mention my winning smile? :-) Feel free to pass along my info.! Cheers.

QOTD: I was joking with a young lady I know, that happens to be fluent in French, about this episode. After she saw Ronan she insisted that I recommend her to him. So Ronan, if you want a knock-out Blonde, just graduated law student from Minnesota, Sarah says her passport is up to date.

    Great episode.

  132. July 17, 2008

    Sassodoro

    QOTD. Ummm.

  133. July 17, 2008

    CBone

That QOTD was terrific! I would say that, as a French owner of a Chateau in France who makes delicious wine. he should have very little trouble finding an American girlfriend. Good luck to him!

  134. July 17, 2008

    Pete W.

QOTD: Sorry, can’t help you there. Maybe send me a few bottles of your best and that might help.

Gary, thanks for a great show. I absolutely love the format, and getting the inside scoop on a terrific small production wine. You are slowly turning me into a Bordeaux drinker despite myself. That’s some serious thunder!

    Happy/safe travels.

Great insight on how technology (weather, etc.) has advanced to allow wine makers more control of their vineyard outcomes. Definitely something I have taken for granted.

  161. July 17, 2008

    D-Cos And It Don't Stop

Great episode, looking forward to some more WLTV’s with french winemakers. Great point about the there not being a great bargain with the pricing of the ‘06 Bordeauxs. Even with the winemakers bringing prices down 32% vs. the ‘05 vintage.

I was just doing the math and looking at today’s $ vs. €, the $ is down about 16% vs. the € from one year ago today. So, we Americans only save about 16% vs. the ‘05 vintage. Damn weak dollar.

  162. July 17, 2008

    jimkay

Thanks for the show. QOTD: I’ll be sending my sister to Pomerol shortly.

Seriously, the tour at the end was great. It’s amazing that such an anonymous looking landscape could be the home of such monumental wines.
