Doesn’t get any better than Bordeaux especially the distinguished guests. I hope you are visiting Reignac. That will make my day, no year!

QOTD: I will come to Bordeaux very, very soon after a stop in Reims at Chateau Boyer (Les Crayeres) which has been one of my greatest trips in my lifetime. I’m have begun a new quest for the Chardonnay from Laurent-Perrier that I had during dinner.

    Cheers!

P.S. Why oh why did I have to look at that !@@#$% sign about those stinking Jets beating the Colts in 1969!!! It had to be the worse year of my life and you go and broadcast it live! Thank goodness I love ya.

    11-5 in ‘08? Keep dreamin’

Still not feeling the french shows, guess its just a conflict of styles.

QOTD: Not until I start feeling french wine other than CDP. Plus there are so many other places where the dollar is rocking that has great wine, see Argentinia.

    Keep the tours coming Gary!

Its almost painful to watch your guests squirm when they have to think of the question of the day on command. Maybe you should give them an advance warning. Questions would definitely be more interesting.

Hey Gary, this email ends my lurker status. I have been watching for a couple of months and I love your show. I do have a question was the “86 you tried a bit funky? I ask not only because of your comments on bottle variation But you only took one taste and it was the only wine your guest spat out.

11-5? Try 12-4…and you read it here first. J-E-T-S, Jets, Jets, Jets! Who has it better than Gary? I think he’ll soon be the one with the helicopter. Bordeaux Tour 2008 is on fire. Keep on rockin’ in the wine world! I’m getting such a kick out of Gary shooting out the lingo and these chateau owners with the dear in the headlights reactions. Classic! Can you say, “lost in translation”?

QOTD: It’s just silly…Tristan was so far in the weeds and caught off guard, (but a gentleman all the same.) I’ll travel to the Bordeaux region when my artwork starts selling like it should! Leave me a comment at richardritterphotography.com!

    Chief Tootles.

Gary, I have to say I’m realy enjoying watching you make your way through the Bordeaux. I’m new to wine and all I’ve heard about Bordeaux’s is “get the ’05’s,” “You absolutely must buy cases of the ‘05 vintage.” I have bought a few ’05’s but for someone who is on a budget(mostly as a result of the the economy) I can’t afford many of the bottle I come across. And the few that I do have, I’m afraid to drink. What I am getting to is that it is nice to see someone pointing out the other vintages, ones I can buy for a few bucks less, and feel like I can open and enjoy. I start my search tomorrow.
Thank you Gary, and you’re doing a great job.
QOTD: If anyone out there is interested in donating a plane ticket, I’ll be there ASAP.

  90. July 18, 2008

  94. July 18, 2008

La Tour Martillac is great because you can never confuse the label for any other chateau. And it is the only Bordeaux of commune AOC level that I’ve had both the white (excellent) and the red (very good). Can’t wait to see where Gary’s Bordeaux tour takes him next!

  95. July 18, 2008

Fun show, again. Wouldn’t it be a hoot if all the Vayniacs showed up at Tristan’s Chateau at the right time for picking?

  96. July 18, 2008

Nice show. You might want to give the French guys a little heads-up on the QOTD. I don’t think he ever figured out what you wanted him to ask a question. As always…love the shows with guests.

The Jets 11-5? They are lucky if they finish 5-11!! Well at least they have 2 easy wins against the Dolphins, but 2 GUARANTEED losses to the PATS.

another good show. just one technical observation; you gotta do something bout the uneven sound. the opening and gary’s intro are extremely loud, but gary fades quickly when he is just talking and it is har to hear, and then when i raise my computer volume and then gary gets loud i go deaf! PLZ take those of us watching at work into consideration! lol!

Love the show and keep them comming!

Gary, I think you really hit upon something with these visits to the wineries I am really, really, really enjoying the local info and guests. I was a little put-off by the Mad Money show, seeing a possible movement away from real enjoyment of wine, but these visits really bring the Thunder. Keep it up in Bordeaux – and in the rest of the world.

This was a very enjoyable episode for Bill and I. Unknowingly I picked up a half bottle of Chateau Montaiguillon, Montagne Saint-Emilion 2004 which we lovingly sniffed and swirled and sipped while watching Tristan and you enjoy the Graves wines. As my grandmum’s maiden name was Graves I feel a certain connection with this region and we would love to join up with Tristan for the Fete des fleurs or harvest at Chateau Latour Martillac. Thanks for enhancing our wine experience.

Wasn’t going to comment, but couldn’t sleep last night, bothered by two questions:

    1) Are these Messrs. Kellerman tied financially to the purveyor of the ubiquitous Kellerman bargain wines? If so, no wonder they hop around in choppers.

    2) What _is_ the French for “jerk-off”?

Long time lurker first time writer,

Love your bordeaux segments also love when you have guests. Interesting to hear you discuss older wines.

QOTD: I’ll be in France next week

gary, why are you so reluctant to let your guests use the spit bucket? they make concerned faces and flail a bit. if you don’t like moving it around, get a second one for that side of the table!

also, is there an episode in which you’ve talking about the cellaring process? i’d love to know some things like whether a real cellar set-up is important if you’re only storing the wine for two years versus twenty, and whether the little wine fridges are really worth the money. thanks!

I’d love to go to the Bordeaux or any other wine region in France someday.

Now I am sure I need to get some Bordeaux Blanc. It has got to be so good, and so overlooked right now.

I just love the characters you bring on the show. You disarm them, and so often we see their humanity which is so much fun.

I know it is hard and you make it look easy. Which is why your show is so addicting. Keep changing the wine world!

Enjoyed the interview with Tristan. He kind of restores my faith in what I hear the French people are all about…….which is, of course, themselves. A knowledgeable and proud producer. And yes, his father did design a boss label. While I don’t drink much French wine, I know it is my loss, but the price point sets up a few barriers. QOTD…………..Unfortunately, no time soon, as I’m still trying to pay off my wife’s visit to England last month. [If Tristan is indicative of the French people, I need to start saving now].

Enjoy the shows on the road, particularly in France.
I have the 2000 Latour-Martillac laying down in the cellar.
I bought it for $20 per bottle in 2003 while traveling in Europe.

QOTD – visited St. Emilion in 2003, would love to make it to Graves as soon as I can.

I’ll have to try a white Bordeaux, as I am a fan of Sancerre and the Sauvignon/Semillon grapes in general.

QOTD: Not planning a trip to France any time soon, but I am very much enjoying this virtual tour of Bordeaux, especially with great guests like Tristan.

What a charming, terrific episode. I love when you have guests. The shows are always great, but lately they have been special. Thanks so much for that. I am a bit behind on episodes but getting caught up this evening :)

all the spaniards go to bordeaux to pick
side note – i had a 1989 la tour martillac rouge last year and it was nice, real nice. my host had the bad idea of serving it with new wave tai, so i held off on eating as much as possible. anyhow, it had some life in it still. it was goooood.

    Mats Fröling

Behind on the shows – just watched this one today. Loved it! During the first week of June this year I spent a few days in Bordeaux with chateaux visits and great food. We visited about 10 places and I have to say that the visit to Latour Martillac was probably the best: the reception, the tour (no pun intended), and the wine: all was fantastic! Thanks Pascal!! They were botteling the 2006 while we were there – great to see.
