Hi Gary, old vintage wines, and very different ratings. Is 88 good vintage ?
Anyway, it was nice show. Thanks.

I loved the old school french background, you shoulda dressed up like Sir. Gary Vaynerchuk. Thanks also for talking about the importance of family- thats why I watch WLTV (the wine info is pretty cool too;).
QOTD: A couple years back I had the pleasure to drink two bottles of 1989 Chateau Lynch-Bages (it was one of those moments when things just click and life is wonderful) I was also recently given a bottle of 1990 Montrose as a gift and I caress it everynight before I go to sleep, lol. Will probably open it in the next year after my first child is born.

I’ve never had a mature Bordeaux. I have had, about 3-4 years ago, the 1997 Chateau Margaux and it was the best Bordeaux I have ever had. Being a less heralded vintage, I found the wine to be drinking wonderfully when I had it. I’ve had a more mature Brunello, which I loved, so I do look forward to someday trying more wines that have spent 10+ years in the bottle.

QOTD: I think it may have been an 82 Talbot, but I’d have to go back and think about it.

Nice show, love the setting; really diggind this Bordeaux series.

I like the backdrop Gary…maybe it’s time to remodel the WL?

I wish I could answer the QOTD, but I haven’t had anything older than 1995. Oh well, something to plan for I guess.

Cheating a little cause we haven’t had it yet, but a friend recently invited us to share a 1986 Chateau Lafite Rothschild. Parker rated it 99 and WS rated it 96, so if it isn’t the best I ever had, I’m going to be very disappointed.

Very helpful show. For me this one really brings home your point about trusting my own palate. I almost always prefer Margaux to Latour. But, at an auction when given the choice between these two 1988’s, I let Parker’s rating steer me towards the Latour. So I ended up with a lot that is pretty good instead of one that might have been really darn good.

  21. July 18, 2008

    Brant

Great episode, but is there anyway I could convince you to stop with the “what do scores matter, trust your palate” mantra. We get it already. And frankly, scores help, just as do tasting notes. Scores shouldn’t be the only reason you buy a wine, but they can definitely be an aid. Those of us outside the wine industry don’t have the resources to just keep trying wines until we find those we like. If anything, encourage your viewers to find reviewers who match their palate and go from there.

Great stuff Gary, really interesting to see the difference that a couple of years can make. I’ve had the 1990 Latour twice (in past 2 yrs) and for my palate it’s the best bottle of wine I’ve ever had…ridiculously long finish vs. your description of the ‘88. Really enjoy the ‘88 Beausejour as recommended on one of your earlier shows. Thanks!

Nice show, it still does not get me excited about Bordeaux though, a lot of money for a good to better than most bottle.
Think the romanticism is drinking these prized and revered wines.
I had a 1976 or 74 lafite rothschild and it was dissapointing, i was expecting a lot more, probably over hyped. Will not forget the evening though and maybe that is where the value lies

The 88 Margaux is what literally started my wine habit. I first tried it 15 years ago, when it was served at my husband’s parents’ home, and, not knowing anything about wines at the time, I immediately went home and started researching the wine online, since it made such an amazing impression on me. I was lucky enough to share another bottle with my husband on our anniversary a few years later, again a couple of years ago, and still have one more bottle on hand. Gets better every time, and I can’t wait to open my last bottle.

But, seriously Gary, it is summer. Who drinks hot tea in heat like this? Maybe it’s hotter down south than it is up in NJ! Though varietal iced tea is always good…You know like Ito En. Good stuff.

I like watching the older wines on the show… QOTD: I’ve only had three bottles of Bordeaux older than 1995, and none were very good… the best was a 1978 Château Prieuré-Lichine, but I only scored it 87 points. Not a great wine, but a very interesting and enjoyable exercise (especially because it was on my sister’s 30th birthday).

Another fun episode. I hope to see alot more traveling shows like these. It really ads to the experience.

QOTD: Not sure of the exact Chateaux, but I know it was a mid-90’s Pomerol. The silkiest damn wine I’ll probably ever have in my life. It was a 100 and I’m tough.

  46. July 18, 2008

    SpeckledHen

‘82 Cos d’Estournel – drank this a few years ago and it was still hard as rocks out of the bottle. It didn’t even move much after 2 hours in the decanter!

‘92 Mouton Rothchild was a real surprise. It was the most extracted, powerful wine I had tasted at the time – not too smooth or elegant, but I felt like I was drinking a little something extra with my wine – like anti-freeze.

QOTD: 1970 Pichon LaLande–Had with grilled ribeye steaks about a year ago and remember it as one of the most interestingly complex wines I’ve ever tasted. Even though I generally prefer Italian reds, a great first growth Bordeax with some age can blow the socks of pretty much any other wine IMO.

QOTD: I used to buy Bordeaux from Margaux starting in the early ’80’s for about 25 to 40 bones and being in a little heaven with a few of those bottles. I didn’t have a very trained pallete, but I know I enjoyed drinking that wine with or without food. I don’t remember the vintages, but the wine and ourselves were very young when we drank them.

Gary, the way you use “dry” makes it sound like you mean “tannic,” which is confusing because “dry” conventionally refers exclusively to sugar content. “Bone dry” is even more specifically referring to sugar content. Please use “tannic” from now on or I will be forced to beat you up :)

QOTD: 1982 Calon Segur, out of a double magnum, at the Vayniac Party. Really really cool and memorable!

Awesome episode GV, loving the Bordeaux trip, can’t wait to see more!
QOTD: I was lucky enough to try a 1990 Cheval Blanc, and let me tell you that it totally lived up to the hype, it was indeed a 100pt wine! Also had a 1990 Ausone that was just as good in a different way. Second place comes the 1995 Grand Puy Lacoste, brilliant wine that is still evolving.

  64. July 18, 2008

    Divya Mistry

QOTD: Just recently got into wines, and I don’t think I’ve had a Bordeaux older than 2006. (I know… unfortunate. Can’t wait till I’m rollin’ in the dough to be able to afford some of the classic vintages)

OH baby! Nice show. QOTD: a total no brainer for me: 1947 Cheval Blanc. We tasted this on the occasion of my friend’s 26th birthday (no longer draftable) along with a 1947 Canon and a 1949 Gruaud LaRose (yes, this is the wine I brought; I couldn’t afford any 1947s). I’d love to reminisce with you some day about the many tastings my group has had over the years; like that’ll ever happen. Anyway, I think you know what I mean when I say that I can still taste this wine anytime I put my mind to it.

    John Farrin

QOTD: I think that the 1985 Lynch Bages that I probably drank way too young (1996) is the best Bordeaux that I have had. It makes me wistful when I think how little I paid for it (under $40).

  75. July 18, 2008

    Jamie

great show. You gave the 1988 bordeaux 89,93, and 90 points respectively. Not even close to Parker or Wine spectator. I think, and this only my opinion, that wine spectator is more right as far as the ratings. You keep saying too much wood, leather components, rose mary, solid complexity.Wwine spectator doesn’t even mention any of your components. One thing that you are absolutely right is that all three wines are overpriced. Also, I’m a NY Jets fun even without Broadway Joe. Congratulations on your show and podcast.

A nice and serious episode. I like it much better when GV flies solo and tastes vino without the distraction of guests.

I mean really bro….France, drinking wine for free and making money while you’re doing it. I’m in the wrong business. In fact, I need to come out of retirement and do what you’re doing.

Maybe I’ll steal Ian and open up a wine shop here in Jersey since you don’t call me or stop by…..lol

That was a great show homey. I wish I was there with you guys. You know we would have tooooo much fun!!!

QOTD: I had a 1959 Château Mouton Rothschild Pauillac and it was better than sex. A friend of mine Miles Feinstein left it for me at a BYOB one night because he had to run and I wasn’t even sitting with him. He stopped by my table and said finish this for me will ya and left. A full bottle. Can you believe it?

Gary I have two ideas for the show:
#1 shoot in front of a green screen and lay in custom backgrounds or fancy rooms, outdoor scenes, puppies, or whatever, later.
#2 Can you do a show on budget cellaring. Or should we not bother unless we have $$$$ to throw down on remodeling our house…what about if you live in an apartment. How could someone utilize a basement?

    Thanks for the show…

    Great Show!!!

QOTD: Best Bordeaux wine prior to ‘95 vintage is a toss up between ‘82 Chat. Lafitte, ‘82 Chat. Mouton Rothschild, and ‘82 Chat. Ausone. All are birth year wines I got to enjoy on my 23rd birthday.

I like this kind of show. Different topics than usual. As enthusiast, I have a cellar for aging wines and I am lucky enough to have tasted hundreds of older wines. Difficult to pick a favorite as many have their own personalties but I would hesitate between ‘82 Ducru (highly rated by RP) or ‘83 Pichon Baron (poorly rated by RP) One that I did not like was the ‘83 Cheval (high RP score) and we had a few bottle to test for bottle variation. So obviously my palate occasionally matches RP and occasionally misses his perceptions. It is the same with other reviewers including you. That is why I don’t trust “score” but rather the “impression” a wine makes.

I’m ‘new’ to older Bordeaux, and the oldest I’ve had of any quality is ‘98. So I don’t count. :(

  97. July 18, 2008

    Kevin

Correction. I do count. It was a 1994 Lynch Bages. Seeing as how it was the only pre-95 for me, it is most certainly, without a doubt, the best I’ve had.

Very interesting, like looking at the older wines.

QOTD – I don’t have much experience with any older wines… yet!

Very classy show. I wish you would have a tea show, maybe a one-time show like the sake show.
QOTD: I don’t think I’ve had an older Bordeaux. I was drinking Cold Duck before 1995.

QOTD: Never had a Bordeaux that old. Do have a 98 and several 2003s waiting to be ready to drink tho. So hard for the “average” wine lover to get or afford old Bordeauxs!

Well…they can obviously make great wine in Bordeaux but they can’t make a table to save their lives. I’m suprised the bottles stayed upright!

    Rossodio

Well, it’s not a red bordeaux, but it’s a bordeaux… the 1990 Chateau Suiduiraut – Sauternes, but ridiculously nice. My own rating was 95 points.

If we’re talking strictly about red Bordeaux, then I’d have to say the nicest I’ve had is the 1970 Chateau du Domaine de l’Eglise. Very very nice, but I think that the magnum I drank from had been exposed to a bit of heat at some point or another. Regardless, a phenominal wine.

The only thing semi-close wine I’ve had (I guess that it’s French.. haha..) is an 82′ Sauternes I had for last Thanksgiving. Hmm.. I guess I have not had a pre- 95′ Bordeaux! Damn You Vaynerchuk! oh well… It’ll happen.. Nice trio of episodes in Bordeaux. I dig the traveling shows. Very nice. You should go down and hit the nice smaller Southern French wines. I’d love to see you do (or me do) a show from Chateauneuf Du Pape. That would be nice..

QOTD: if we are going off of my own personal ratings, it would be both the 90 Pichon Baron and 90 Montrose. Both were profound bottles and the Montrose showed why it got the 100 score from Parker. I also scored a 95 D’yquem very high and a 95 Angelus very high, but the company and feeling of fun went into those ratings more then anything else.

I’m hoping to top that by the end of the year with an 82 LaLande or a 82 Las Cases

that said, none of the mature bordeauxs that I’ve had compare to the utterly primal 96 Lafite. It was just scary good and made me ache for more

  118. July 19, 2008

    Leif erik Sundstrom

QOTD : most pleasurable was ‘82 Mouton….most interesting was ‘47 Mouton. Unfortunately I only got to simply taste each of these. But both were incredible pleasure and educational experiences.

QOTD: 1982 Leoville Las Casas. We had our doubts that any wine could really earn 100 point rating. While perfection is a tough thing to identify, that wine was pretty close for me. Side note, after drinking it the (VERY GENEROUS) host brought out the Opus One and we all looked at each other in amazement how the Opus was like drinking grape jelly after the Las Casas.

Excellent show! I was lucky enough to try La Tour’s second wine from 1978. Even with less than proper storage, it was pretty good.

Any way you can do a garagiste wine show on a July 30th show? My husband would *love* it.

It’s Bordeaux. It’s classic vintages. It’s Gary V. “is it plugged in?…are you sure?” “it says 4 minutes” I love it! Keepin’ it real in freakin’ BORDEAUX!!!! Gary V nails it every time. Who ya gonna believe? The kid from dirty Jersey, that’s who!

  130. July 19, 2008

    Garry M.

Enjoyed the show but I gotta say QPR is way too
important to me to spend that kind of cash on a
bottle of wine when there is an abundance of wine
that is just as enjoyable for 1/3 those prices.
And if you spend $300 on a bottle of wine just to
impress someone… well that’s just obscene.
Maybe I would feel different if I had Gary V. money
    but I don’t.
    But that’s just my opinion.

  131. July 19, 2008

Very interesting about these old wines,I dont think I could hold a bottle for that long, and like someone stated previously I wouldnt spend that much money on a wine.

This episode got me out of long time lurking!
I had an ‘83 Bordeaux the moment that I got engaged on the pier of a little lake in Wisconsin with only the Loons (birds, not people) and the ducks watching…candles and cheese and most importantly, the one I love :)
It was a couple of years ago now but I remember it warming my insides in that way I love wines to do. An amazing finish that I have yet to experience with another wine. Then again, I am sure it was the love and the wine combined!
I just wish I could remember the name of the actual Bordeaux!

Great episode, takes a lot of willpower to hold on to a bottle that long I feel.

QOTD: I’ve had the Chateau Margaux but not sure about the year. It’s one of my favorite tastings ever! Today I picked up the Margaux from Costco for $17.50. I’m crossing my fingers that it’s at least worth that much.

Great show! Thanks. I have been a long time collector and prefer to age my wines…especially Bordeaux, so I especially appreciate this retrospective, and look forward to many more.

QOTD: I have had many “mini” tastes (about one ounce) of hundreds of early eighteen hundred through mid nineteen hundred vintage wines from all over the world at the old Heublein, Inc. Rare Wine Tastings and Auctions in the 1970’s. However, I was so young and inexperienced at the time that I won’t count these in my answer. But I do have to count these tastings as the greatest wine learning experience of my life. Of the wines I have actually owned, a 1961 Chateau Haut Brion and a 1961 Chateau Gruaud Larose stand out as the oldest and best Bordeaux I have tasted from my own cellar. Gary, you will be happy to know that they were both tasted with my closest wine buddies.

1982 Chateau Cheval Blanc in a little French restaurant in Bar Harbor Maine. The deceased dad of the current owner had bought up amazing Bordeaux and the child did not know what she had. Our group drank every bottle they had left for $80 per bottle that week. We also had 1983 Ch. d’Yquem there. Amazing, never to be repeated experience. I can still taste the finish of that wine.

Great show and the room looked like you were staying at a chateau. Those French know how to enjoy life.

QOTD: Does “Dominus” count since it’s made by a French Bordeaux winemaker and a true Bordeaux blend? I love the ‘88 Dom otherwise, I don’t believe I’ve had any pre-95 Bordeauxs. Started getting into them in 2000 and I love the Reignac.

  163. July 20, 2008

Good show. A little more explanation on bottle variation w/ older vintages is warranted. Great point as well about when the scores by RP and WS were handed out.

QOTD: Relatively newwer wine drinker (last 5 years). Oldest I have had thus far is 1998 (Ch Simac St. Emilion I believe). Was ok nothing high end.

By the way your question was asked, I think you mean a wine at least 12 years old. For me though, my most memorable bottle of wine was a ‘75 Leoville Las Cases, which I opened for my 30th birthday in 1983. I still remember how the aroma of that bottle filled the room when I uncorked it – what an unforgettable experience, and what an evening!

Wonderful presentation of top growths of the left bank Gary. I did a wine promo at Costco in Fairfax, Virginia today and they had a very modest selection of 2005 Bordeaux. They did have 2005 Cos D’Estournel, Lynch-Bages and Leoville Las Cases. These were selling for similar pricing as the 1988’s you reviewed here. I was taken by a highly rated Chateau D’Issan from Margaux at a mere $60 which was a relative bargain. I am happy to hear that you believe in the 2007’s as there are many skeptics except for the touted Sauvignon Blancs. I was really feeling the Bordeaux vibe with the background of your show today. The lighting of your face was lacking as you usually work a brightly lit room. I missed the expressions you make when you are tasting and analyzing the wines. Also I appreciate the scores and your own take on them. Scores with an explanation are very useful to us. You made me feel like I was virtually there myself so thanks.

QOD 1982 Chateau Ausone, Right Bank. My best after that were 1943 Margaux and 1947 Margaux. My secret wish would be the 1947 Cheval Blanc but there aren’t many left on the planet….

    GV,
Absolutely fascinating. This is a glimpse into wines most of us only fantasize about. Since I won’t be going out to buy $300 bottles of wine to compare my pal with Parkers, Wine Speculator’s, or yours, I’ll just chalk it up to entertainment and extrapolating based on my pal to yours and the others’. By the way, as I’m sure you know WS is not one palate but depends on who covers the region. No names here but, like with movies, I’ve been calibrating my pal against the WS editors’, Tanzers, and Wine Advocate. Haven’t had many old Bordeaux, but maybe now I have some benchmarks against which to measure. I’ll bookmark this episode as a classic.

QOTD: None. I just got into wines. I have not had the chance to try some old wines – I’d love to at some point.

Tea Library: Fantastic idea. I built my palate with Tea and coffee. There is a LOT there and you can do some really interesting things with Tea. I would recommend a Tung Ting Oolong or a Baochong Oolong if you’re looking for something absolutely spectacular.

93 Mouton Rothchild (with the nude sketch on the bottle) was amazing, earthy tones and really long finish.

Great show. The ambiance in the room was reminiscent of a seance. The corks were rolling around and the bottles shaking slightly. An unstable table or ?? Hmmm….

QOTD: im not old enough to have had much borqoux from before 1995! im 24 and just getting really serious about wine, and am trying to expand my pallate as quickly as i can. with you help ive been doing my best. thanks alot!

The best mature bordeaux I’ve had was an 82 les fort de latour that I had with my wife at her 30th birthday party. Great show, I think there is tremendous opportunity to try classic bordeaux by finding older, less heralded vintages such as 1988. Similar to 2004, 1988 preceded a blockbuster vintage and has greatly reduced prices as a result. Its also nice to be able to drink these older vintages while the newer releases rest in bottle.

QOTD: I haven’t had anything that old… the best I can do is a 1996 Salon Blanc des Blancs Champagne. (And yes, I realize that’s not Bordeaux!) :-)

I have yet to have a truly great mature Bordeaux. Best to date has been a 95 Lynch Bages. But it wasn’t a transcendental experience.

Keep ‘em coming Gary! This is great shizzit!

    QOTD: Yeah Right!

Great Show! I’m always happy to see you do older classic wines.

QOTD: I had a 1982 LaLagune that really rocked my world. I picked up another one recently and hope it’s as good.

I also had a 1986 Taylor with a much higher rating (by Parker), that I didn’t like nearly as much.

    Gary,
I prefer Left bank wines over Right bank wines, but you seem to carry more Right bankers. Is there anyway you can change that? I would love to buy more St Julien’s, Paulliac’s, Margaux’s,etc. from you, but I have to go get them in the city….please help!

in the late 70’s I had a ‘55 Ch. Mouton Rothschild. I still have the empty bottle…. It was like velvet on the palate, mature tannins, but still fruit driven and balanced. Talk about finesse.

  213. July 21, 2008

    pawncop

Good show with wines that are not so common.

QOTD – None so far, but at some point will expand my palate to include this catagory of fine wines.

  214. July 21, 2008

    GalvezGuy

I have been fortunate enough to drink two older Bordeaux. 1981 Chateau Margaux which was amazingly youthful and the 1978 Leoville Barton which has the tomato notes of the Cos. I am looking forward to a few 1959’s which I ma saving for my 50th and a 1988 Mouton Rothschild for the next special occasion.

  215. July 21, 2008

    Kristen

Really great show- glad you did some vintage Bordeaux!

QOTD: Alas, I have never had any wines that old. Students don’t have the cash flow that some people do…

  216. July 21, 2008

    The Original Marc

QOTD: If you’re going to throw out the pre-1995 rule, I’m going to counter that with the under-25 rule, which states that it doesn’t have to be before 1995 if you’re under 25. So with that said, I’ll go with the 1997 Chateau Canon La Gaffeliere, which I had this year, so 11 years on it. I thought it was amazingly elegant and one of the best wines I’ve had and has inspired to not drink my newer bordeauxs.

    QOTD: Chateau Haut Brion 1989

I like the on-premise shows better for some reason. The “Technical difficulty” just added to the authenticity

We are looking forward to more retrospectives (Sauternes anyone?)

the only bordeaux that I have had pre-1995 was Domaine de la gaffeliere 1990, and I had that in 2005-2006 range. it was extremely interesting to taste a wine like that. nearlt all my tasting experience deals with wines less than 5 years old! very interesting stuff. I have a bottle or two I am saving, and praying for the patience to let them mature before I crack them open! very cool episode, thanks1

A friend from France stayed with us for a few days and left a bottle of 1978 Mouton Rothschild as a thank you gift. I didn’t really pay attention to what it was, and I definitely abused it through three moves and casual storage.

But, although the cork was mouldy, the wine opened up and dramatically improved over the evening. I finally saw why old Bordeaux is such a big deal!

QOTD: ‘61 ch Lafite drunk in the mid 80s. It was so sublime, and i have been looking to find that same experience ever since. Such a long silky finish that stayed with you for such a long time. it was a blessing and a curse since i haven’t found that same experience again. Not rolling too hard these days but i hope one day if i haven’t destroyed my 3 bottles of ‘86 mouton or 1 of ‘89 mouton it will come close.

QOTD – never had one but I do have an 88, 93, and 95 in the cellar (afraid the 88 or 93 may be past their prime). I am looking to open the 88 soon with some good friends.

nice episode but Sir GaryV could have made an appearance in that setting! way to talk corks from old bottles – don’t sniff them but do look them over thoroughly.

QotD: 1978 Latour – had it twice and both bottles memorable.

    Ryan Speller

I’m very late with answering this but last year I was fortunate enough to attend an incredible tasting where I had the pleasure of tasting a 1945 Ch. Talbot… What a stunning example of aged Bordeaux and a pleasure to taste… Oh, and the 82 Mouton, Haut Brion, and Cos weren’t bad either.

  228. July 22, 2008

    Brian Barrick

The last few shows from Bordeaux have been entertaining, but whatever happened to the focus on QPR of your earlier shows? $300 is way too much for a bottle of wine, no matter how good it is.

  229. July 22, 2008

    aaaredfrog

Loving the on-site shows!!! Great stuff.

QOTD – Never, not sure where to buy stuff like that. You have a good point about buying them properly. Could be really fun to try though.

Well done on the taping Ian!

That has to be the 1975 Langoa Barton. It was absolutely beautiful five years ago – all the tannin had melted away and there was just soft soft fruit – absolutely delicious.

I also had the 1966 Langoa, but not as good – looking a little tired.
    Cheers,

Another fun episode and great entertainment listening to Ian in the background: “It’s not my fault!” – Priceless!!

QOTD: I had a 1982 Leoville Poyferre that was probably the best older Bordeaux I’ve ever had. It was fabulous (I scored it 95 points).

    way cooler than ohio wines
qotd – i have had a few older bordeaux, but not too many. i just got in this game a few years back.
i had a 91 phelan segur, considering the vintage, it was real good. nothing crazy but well done. an 89 la tour martillac red. it was delicious. this was last year and the tannins were still hanging in there. it has another 5 years in it. some older burgs too… 82 and 89 were telling me, store wine in your cellar.

I have to apologize for the late response to this show because I just watched it this evening. I purchased a case of the 1988 Margaux when it was offered en primeur in 1989, and still have 4 bottles of it left – and am very thankful for Gary’s comments on future cellaring. I first tasted it right after the wine was released in 1991, and surprisingly, it was delicious right from then and kept getting better. I also have very fond memories of a few 1971 German wines, including a Wiltinger Rosenberg (adjacent to the Scharzhofberg) Auslese, drunk last November 2, and an Egon Muller Scharzhofberger Spatlese, uncorked in 1999 and being remarkably fresh at 28 years of age. It is a truly amazing experience drinking 20+ year old wine.

Good show. Nice to see how my 05’s could possibly develop. Hopefully I will have stored them properly and they wont fall under any issues. QOTD: Never had a mature one…. yet!

    I’m a little late…
QOTD: best red bdx I ever had was 1989 Lynch-Bages. I bought a case in the early 90ies and I have still 3 remaining. Down to 3…
I’m quiet surprised how the 88 Cos has developed. I had 4 bottles between 1996-1999 and IMO they have been great. I tended to rate them like WS, if I would have to… was an amazing wine.

    Hi Gary,
One impressed me was a bottle of 1988Leoville Las Casas,it open up like a dancing ballet girl in your middle of tongue, flowery frangrances.super elegance, smoothing your heart’s aftertase.memorable! It absolutely not a beast.

Funny episode. Looked like you did it from a haunted house. Those hotels and chateaus in bordeaux are crazy wierd. Feels like a timewarp back to the 17thcentury and not in a good way. Way too dark. And who are those amateurs???? Where is the Mottster?
QOTD: Haven’t had many big name mature bordeaux, but I did have a leoville barton 85 that was great. I have an uncle who has been keeping bordeaux since the 70s and every christmas he brings out 4-5 bottles to taste. But all of these wines had release prices between $5-15. So you never know what you are going to get with these. Kind of fun though.
