i think this is the first WLTV episode i wacthed and started watching from here. one day i decided to type in Shiraz on youtube to see what wine was about. saw this one video with a shy guy named gary and was intrigued from the get go. went to wine library and bam that was it. thats when i became a vayniac. i havent been there since day one but its been about over a year now that ive excitedly watched every episode you have posted since that day. thank you gary.

My drinking game is very straightforward and easy to understand: Put a bottle of Irish wishky in the middle of a table. Someone starts to drink 1/10 of it and passes the bottle on clockwise or counterclockwise. The first person who is laying under the table because of the lack of some coordination disabilities of her/his brain/nerve/muscle complex is to buy the next round.

everytime you stutter, mumble, or fumble your words is a drink, every time you swallow, its two, and when you mention mott, 3

Good stuff. Thanks for bringing another wine to my attention. Def. have to check something out in the future. QOTD: Everytime you give a wine a pass ( or pazzzzzzz), one person has to roll two dice. Whatever number it lands on, thats the number of drinks everyone has to take ( could mean multiple glasses. heck, if you go 0-4 that could mean multiple bottles of wine!).

    Is that you gary?

    It’s wine, not mouthwash…..

Gigondas always rocks my face. I’ve been a fan for years. Glad to see you dig the profile of these highly individual wines. You rock, Mr. Vaynerchuk!!!

I’m having my first gigondas as I rewatch this show. It’s a 2005 Domain De Carobello Gigondas. I can’t identify flavors as well as you. I’m not real high on it. Although I love the raw veggies at the salad bar I think I may not be the biggest fan of the veggie wines. But I think I’m liking it more than past wines that had similar flavors so my palate may be evolving. I’ll see what overnight breathing does for the gigondas.

Oh, Gary, I hate to tell you this, but that is a $220 crystal glass!
BV stands for “Bottega del Vino”. I found a site selling it for a small fortune:

Hope someone sends you more glasses!

I leave town for a week and miss the chance to vote on the Bottle Shock contest.

Number 3 had an impressive big ass glass but Number 1 is definitely my favorite.

QOTD: I was going to come up with my own but I like Colin’s

QOTD: Drinking game… Hm… “Gary Pounds it”. Drink a shot, (but then spit it back out into a bucket) for every time Gary pounds the table. ;-)

Nice show on the big “G”. I’ve always enjoyed Gigondas as a less expensive alternative to CDP (although, as you say, not so much any more).

QOTD: I’m told old for drinking games. ;-)

    Sassodoro

QOTD. Has anybody suggested blind tasting and trying to identify the wine? Isn’t that the grandaddy of drinking games? How about tasting a wine and trying to describe it and score it as Gary would. For example, would Gary describe the nose as oregano or celery stick, twizzler or cool aid, etc.? (Has anybody compiled a list of Gary’s unusual descriptors?)

Good episode, although the server was not too kind to me.
I was introduced to Gigondas in 1997 by a French colleague.
I have been a fan since!

QOTD – not big on drinking games, it takes the pleasure out of drinking for quality.

    KVolk

QOTD: This is so easy to do…anytime you say Jets you drink….when you mention Kellen Clemmens you drink what’s left in your glass…..when you say anything to do with the playoffs or super bowl…finish the bottle…..

I really enjoy Gigondas wines. I spent a few days there in 2006 and got a great appreciation for the wines. It is also a nice place to visit. Lots of good tasting opportunities.

QOTD – I like anything that teaches me about wines, whether it is questions about wines, regions, wineries, or if it relates to trying to describe wines (grape, region, vintage, etc.). Anything would be fun.
