I really enjoy Gigondas wines. I spent a few days there in 2006 and got a great appreciation for the wines. It is also a nice place to visit. Lots of good tasting opportunities.

QOTD – I like anything that teaches me about wines, whether it is questions about wines, regions, wineries, or if it relates to trying to describe wines (grape, region, vintage, etc.). Anything would be fun.

Can’t help with the QOTD. I’m all about responsible drinking. Like drinking when I’m lonely, drinking when I’m depressed, drinking when I’m bored, etc. I would never, EVER, turn it into a game. :-)

    Contest: Gotta go with #3

QOTD: Sorry Bro don’t do drinking games….never needed a game to get me to drink….. ;)

Finally catching up. Nice show. I actually stumbled across the live feed and though it was a “backstage” look at the taping of the show. You should add a “Mott Cam” so we can see all of Mott’s facial expressions!!

    QOTD:
My goal here is to list rules not only for us to abide by, but a fun game that Gary can play with us.

    1) I just saw episode 497 and you mentioned that you wanted to have lighting that flashes during Sniffy Sniff. Instead of having the lights go off every time a Sniffy Sniff happens, you could have like a “Thunder

    2) Round” where everyone has to chug their glasses.

    3) Anytime Mott links something up.

    4) I think anytime you look away from the camera to head nod at someone or any distraction like that you should take a drink.

    5) Since you are uStreaming it up now we could have more interactive drinking, like 300+ we all drink.

    6) Anytime you let “Pour some out for the Vayniacs”, we take a drink.

    7) Anytime you pass the glass to Mott, we drink.

    8) Anytime you nearly drop the glass or break one, you get one for a “party foul.”

    9) Any time you brown bag it, we take a swig from the bottle.

    10) Anytime a wine “Brings the Thunder” we all drink.

    11) Anytime the Oak Monster Shows up we take a drink.

    12) We raise our glasses in tribute for the shout-outs and afterwards all drink.

That’s most of all that I can think of. I know it is too late now, but I thought that #1 (DaKoolaidShow) the best.

QOTD- The only I can think up is that when you say “Mott, link that up!” everyone should take a drink.

    #2!

Joey B, I hate to correct you but Gary’s got it right. The S in Gigondas (or Vacqueyras) is NOT silent. I also thought it was, but I was just there 3 monts ago and I stad corrected. One of my favourite parts of the world!

QOTD. The drinking game days are over. People don’t need any motivation to drink the good vino. I’ll do it at my own pace, thank you!

Had to come out on the voting… #1 Most creative, the other two not so much.
Also- Once again, you’ve inspired me to expand my horizons:Gigondas? Never heard of it till today. Look forward to giving it a whirl!

2005 St Cosme Gigondas: as good as any CDP I have had except for the 2003 Pegau!!

Never had a Gigondas, need to try!

    QOTD:
    very simple:
you would need up to 4 people to get the fun. You pick a wine for prize, you need at least 4 wines in addition (this should be ok, every one takes a bottle). It works like a book reading contest:
you taste the wine you brought in the group than you describe what you sniffed and tasted and than you score secretly. Write it down. Then you add the score, divide it through the number of people to get the average and the one nearest to the average wins. The one who won most rounds gets the precious bottle. Much fun, lots to discuss, lots to learn. If you’re not satisfied: next game, if you can handle it.

QOTD: Would the drinking game ASSHOLE be appropriate for a wine program?

  17. July 23, 2008

    YoungDave

    QOTD: GREAT QOTD- Well, maybe:
drink 1 – every time Gary says “wow”
drink 1 – for every single sports reference
drink 1 – with Gary each time he DOESN’T spit
    drink 2 – for a mispronunciation
drink 2 – for a professional wrestling reference
drink 3 – for an oak monster appearance
drink 3 – for a spill (unintentional or intentional)
    drink 4 – for a Sasha appearance

    Gary,

I’m a neophyte, a noob, and I lurk no longer.

This is the story of a man who has taken to the Thunder show to such a degree that:
1.) my wife is irritated with my near constant watching of episodes, but more by my near constant impressions of Gary.
2.) I spent more than I should at the local wine purveyor. Thusly, irritating my wife more. (Side note: Only narrowly avoided trying to impress the purveyor with my new knowledge).
3.) I have sent links, entire episodes, and even the spoofs to friends, colleagues, and near strangers to expand “the nation”
4..) I have changed plans on an upcoming guys only weekend to include a wine festival instead of seeing a second Brewers game.
5.) I contacted Wisconsin legislators about reciprocity with new Jersey in wine sales.
6.) I’ve checked my calendar for the reminder of the third Thursdays in 2008.
7.) Gave 100 bones to a friend traveling to France next week in the hopes he won’t completely screw that up (written instructions provided).
8.) and lastly, I’ve considered wearing a wrist band in public.

These are not small things Gary. These things are making others around me worry.

QOTD: I recently learned of the drinking game “Bunnies” Episode #24 on Tiki Bar TV. http://www.tikibartv.com

I think Vayniacs might call our version “Squirrels.” Don’t know why, just seems cosmically proper.

Never tried a Gigondas, I’ll get on that.

    Gary,

After lurking for about 100+ episodes, I’m finally commenting… I have been in search of a good wine store that carries some of the wines you review, but unfortunately most of Pittsburgh’s wine stores are not up to par. Finally I have found a good one, where I purchased the 2004 Montirius Gigondas ($24.99). I have yet to try it, but can’t wait for when I do. I’ll re-post my thoughts on the wine. I also picked up 2 bottles of the 2005 Two Brothers Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve.

    Cheers,
    Joe

I’m too late also, but I just wanted to say that #1 was the Shizzle! When it comes to true spoofs, #1 brought the thunder–it was hilarious! The other two fizzled in comparison.

Too late but, all good, really! #3 gets my nod due to his yapping ability. #2 was scary good with the mannerisms, #1 was great with the spoof on the outside wine tasting. Gary watch out.

Can’t get into a drinking game too much.

    da Korkmiester

All of ‘m were outstanding – really creative & funny as all spit out!!! :D
I’m gonna say #3 had all the GaryV quirks, well done!
    Cheers!

King of Kong was awesome indeed Gary.

I don’t know about a whole drinking game, but if you say “cat pee” that should = drinking the bottle :)
