  • It must have been a LOT of work for you and a team to put together an epic wine cruise. I hope all goes well with it.

QOTD: Peyton. The SNL short with the kids ftw!

For those that don’t agree with his athleticism, at least recognize that he does some good things off the field. He has been doing some great philanthropy in the city of Indianapolis – the Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital.

QOTD: Definitely Eli b/c that’s my 4 year old’s name. In fact, I picked the Giants to win the SB last year for the same reason. I have a history of picking winners when I use stupid logic. For example, the only two times I’ve ever won our NFL weekly pool were the time I did the WHOLE thing based upon which city I’d rather live in (for each matchup) and the time I picked which uniforms I liked better. Every time I actually try to use knowledge for my picks, I land on my butt. Too funny. 🙂

  • Eric S.

Definitely the older brother, don’t like Eli cause I hate the giants, they beat my pats and not a big payton fan, again because i like the pats.

As for the wine, your experience with Ohio reds was similar to my experiences with wines outside the big four states, the reds are just not that good.

While I respect giving attention to the other 46, let’s get back to some serious wine!
QOTD – I am not really a fan of any of them. However, I would say that Archie is the patriarch and had a career of adversity with a lousy team. Therefore, I will vote for the dad!

I was thinking about your statement that you expect to see great wine from all 50 states while watching the Israeli wine episode. Israel is blessed with zero rain (and few clouds) from April until October (it was considered a curse from God when it rained before the end of the holiday of Sukkot) which gives the grapes plenty of time to ripen and mature. One of the main problems facing Israeli winemakers is keeping the brix in check, and not allowing the grapes to be too ripe and fruity.
Growing up in Michigan, I imagine Ohio winemakers have some different issues. Massive thunderstorms dominate August, followed by more rain, wind and clouds through September and October. How do you expect winemakers to compete with, say California, given such a huge handicap?

  • For Harry. From Nancy, Kinkead Ridge. Having also grown Pinot Noir in Oregon, I’ve learned every viticultural area has its own problems. Even California… Pierce’s disease, etc. France… occasional hail. South Africa… baboons. Northern Ohio… Asian lady beetles. Actually in SOUTHERN Ohio the biggest issue is frost, especially in the spring. Our ripening season in mid-September to late October is fantastic for our varietals. There’s a reason there’s only one “vintage of the century”; despite the fact France would like you to think there are more. I respect winemakers, like chefs, who can make the best out of any given vintage year (or disasters in a kitchen).
