I’m really impressed that he doesn’t have a chard by the glass on there. Good for him.

Think about buying a light tripod, the shakycam handheld is really hard to watch, my wife who gets motion sick couldn’t watch at all. The whip pans are also really hard on the eyes. Menu shots not in focus, probably should be shot separately and cut in, also they were at a weird angle. Probably also should be a little farther back with the camera, would help with the pans also.

Good Idea like the show concept and generally liked the show, but the visual manicness made it easier to listen to than watch.

    Hopefully constructive not nasty criticism.

    Cheers

Great episode especially for those currently in the restaurant business and future sommeliers. Many people may not appreciate the difficulty of offering a balanced list that matches the theme of a restaurant’s cuisine, while keeping within the budget of the business and the customer. Most challenging may be the glass selections where QPR is the name of the game. It takes real effort to stay in the $6-$12 range and still offer quality!

QOTD: How about a shout out to Gary V with Xarel-lo…non-sparkling from Catalunya, Spain.

GREAT episode- I love the wine list review idea!

QOTD: Perhaps Australian Semillon? Catalunian Xarello? OR maybe Chenin Blanc and Sauvignon blanc from lesser known Loire appellations such as Ruilly?

Great new addition to the show. Haven’t been watching too long got hooked on the Cramer show. Not sure you’ll review a wine list down here in Alabama but keep up the great work.

I wouldnâ??t want to see too many of these type shows clustered together, but Iâ??ll cut you some slack. I like it when you mix things up and give us some diversity.

Kudos to Jesse and Public. The Siefert wines are a touch understated, but therin lies their elegance, but not timidity.
QOTD – The Vayniacs are showing their relative sophistication, by not only their taste, but the logic from which they base their choices. As lovers of all wines for what they relatively have to offer, we’ve seen that a recent, relative unknown like Gruner can become the wine world’s darling, but it’s important to remember, that the past limitations imposed by “drink youngest available” status were further hindered by poor/careless overseas shipping conditions, etc. With the globalization of world markets, those conditions are no longer necessarily the rule. I’d first encountered Gruner a number of years ago, and like many a frail, exotic white, they sucked. They were prob. fine-to-great in Austria, but not here. I think the Spanish whites have long ago landed, and made their mark, for their improvements are by now, long enjoyed. Let’s definetly make way for the Torrontes, the Grillo, the Moschofilero of the world, and eventually, hopefully the great Basque whites, too.

GREAT idea to do wine lists. Interesting aspects I hadn’t considered. MAN ON THE STREET style video was very fun. Jesse was a natural, almost stole your thunder! smile. I think we’ve seen him in a couple 8 MM movies… no? haha.
Good aspect to see mix of geo’s – hadn’t thought of that. hmm.

    Chenin Blanc!

Not for every day, but this was a good style show. Maybe review 3 wines with one food, and give your thoughts on how each type of wine compliments. I mean, you know more than one wine works with each food? right? smile.

    QOTD: Chenin Blanc

Great show Gary and great concept! Jesse was an strong first guest.

I’d agree with many of the comments re: not being able to see the wine list on the camera. How about scanning the list to PDF or similar and linking it up and mentioning it right towards the start of the show so that viewers can have it open in a separate window while they watch the show? This will remove the need to pan to the list back and forth and just keep it focused on yourself, the guest and the restaurant.

    Keep up the great work!

    PS: Go you ANZACS!

Rocker of dudes, AWESOME idea. Wine lists, and in partiucular by the glass, are just brutal sometimes. On your travels this can really make a difference if you are brutally honest. Getting a good glass of grape by the glass in middle America can be a challenge outside of the major cities. YOU are making a difference, maybe with a little bit ame with the encouragement.

Bring the Thunder to the wine lists.

QOTD: Macabeo, Parellada or Xarel-lo have a shot at the next hot white wine — or as a blend.

    Really good show!
I like the idea of reviewing wine lists.
Good guest also – seemed very in tune.

QOTD – GV, you are trying to get Albarino on the scene – I am a big fan of this.

QOTD: I’m also going with Albarino – terrific grape, and good value, as is common with Spanish wines.

Really liked this idea Gary; yet another innovation on WLTV. One thing I’ve found since watching your show is I find wine lists much less intimidating because I know about the wines, and more fun because I can even spot values I might not have before. QOTD: No idea really…probably whatever GV decides it will be 🙂 I had a Verdicchio not too long ago that really impressed me…let’s go with that!

Solid score for a resty wine list. I usually want to pull my hair out looking at the mark-up.

Great idea Gary. You should turn your aim on some of the steakhouses in NYC and shame them into lowering their prices! It would be a great idea to do this for a while and then compile your favortie lists in NYC, San Fran when you get out, etc.
