Thanks for the rare Italian wines–now just make them (or any other Italian wines) free shippers!

Great Show GV ! Had I known that Italian vino makes you shake it like a Hoochie – I’d started drinking them years ago !
QOTD – I can’t remember the name , but it was great.

    Thanks for showcasing new wines!!

QOTD: Last I tried an Italian wine was blind with 4 other frineds the 2001 Pian Delle Vigne (Antinori) Brunello di Montalcino (60$; WS90) along with 2004 Chatueau St-Thomas from Lebanon (Cab Sauv, Merlot, Syrah blend, 26$). Both were good, but the Ch. St-Thomas unanimously won the better vote…take about QPR

Good to see Mott on another episode (even if it was only briefly). I feel like he should make cameos more regularly! :-)

QOTD: Wish I drank more Italian wine, but I’ll definitely try the second of these now.

QOTD: Tonight – Terredora Dipaolo Fiano di Avellino Terre de Dora. Notes from CT: 90 points. Pretty golden color; aromas and flavors of smoky peat (which diminishes with time), pineapples, and bananas, with lemon zest and minerals; great acidity, long, zesty finish. Very tasty. The fiano de avellino is a grape from Campania.

So much still to discover from Italy.

QOTD: As I recall a recent bottle of Luciano Sandrone Dolcetto was pretty faboo. Not typical dolcetto style in my mind, but with a great silkiness or more density.

I think the butt wiggle and the Beat Army -shirt fall into the same category. I would lose them both.

Decent show, the shakin might be a “low”-light GV.

QOTD: None…..I tend to shy away from triple digit and decade long cellaring wines from Italy.

    Hm… I like learning about ‘new’ regions…

QOTD – Italy was probably the first wine region I really dove into when I started drinking wine. I tried many of the reds and also Soave and Pinot. Recently, I have had some other whites that I really enjoyed. I can’t remember specific names, but there was a Greco and Verdiccio in my new finds…

QOTD….I had a Sicilian Nero d’Avola (Donnafugata) a couple months ago that was very serviceable. Probably a 88 or 89 pointer in my book with a retail of roughly 15 bones.

BEAT NAVY. Gary, I served in both the Army and the Air Force. Your t-shirt was offensive. Please burn the shirt and take a shower ASAP. I can’t believe you would let a rag like that touch your skin!!!

QOTD: Recently had some nice Gavi’s. Feel like they offer a nice alternative to the typical pinot grigio’s that are mass-marketed out of Italy.

I tried a sfursat wine for the first time about 6 weeks ago and really fell in love with it (Nino Negri Valtellina Sfursat). Nebbiolo grapes done amarone style — what’s not to like?! :)

QOTD: I recently tried my first aglianico and was absolutely blown away. I seem to be wanting mouth-shredding dry wines lately, and this one didn’t disappoint. 2005 Casa Vinicola Michele Alois Taurasi Campole

QOTD – I’ve only had one Italian wine, and I loved it! It was a 2006 Shiraz Nero d’Avola from Boccantino. Very dry, with great earthy tones and wonderful fruit. I got it for about $11, and it was WELL worth every penny.

Also, since we’re talking cheese, I’m going to suggest that EVERYONE go out there and try red elderberry wine cheddar. I had some from England, though there are some producers in North America as well. It’s an amazing cheese, very sharp, with a bright fruit finish.

QOTD – had a bottle of this winery (and ths is a pathetic way to remember it) that was partially owned by mario batali. A red blend i think, and it was a knockout for around $15. His name wasn’t on the bottle or label at all, he co-owns the vineyard I guess – wish i had more info. went to get more and it was all gone.

for something you can find in the supermarket (couldn’t believe it) i just had a Tomoresca chard that was impressive for $10 (unoaked) and I’ve had a red blend they make, in a restaurant recently, that I thought was a pretty nice QPR.
