I haven’t tried a Petite Syrah yet. I’m going out tonight to find one for tomorrow evening (wine Friday). I gotta stop watching WLTV because you always give me ideas on wines I need to try. Unfortunately my wine refrigerators (I have two and that’s a story in itself) are getting so full there’s no room for new. More drinking, less buying!

QOTD: really, really in Southern France, Rhone (especially), Languedoc & Roussillon. Who would have guessed that the Languedoc-Roussillon region is the largest area of wine production in the world. Some decent bargains even with the Euro trashing the dollar.

Summertime is great for a nice crisp rose, and I’ve run across 2 great roses. One is called Sola Rosa and the other is from Alexander Valley Vineyards. Also been drinking a very nice Pinot Gris from Elk Cove Vineyards in Oregon. As for Petit Sirah, I have enjoyed the Foppiano as well as Petit Sirahs from Bogle and Concannon.

Gary, Gary, Gary, I think you have missed the boat on this one. My wife and I purchased the 2006 Rosemblum and tasted it along with you. We both immediately tasted bing cherries that our moms bottled when we were little. Give it another shot and see what you think. We can discuss it on the cruise. Ken & Sheila

I remember having at least one Petite Syrah (yes with a ‘y’), it was the L.A. Cetto from Baja California…Good stuff: dark berries and leather…a little young maybe, but still pretty good.

    Good show! (as usual)

QOTD: I’ve been enjoying Portuguese wines a lot. My favs are Marques de Marialva and tonight’s : Marques de Borba.

    Hey Vay-Ner-Chuk,

I, with help from Mrs. thefaamakesmedrink, am polishing off quite a bit of Gavi and Gruner Veltliner. Kudos to you, our Russian friend. Keep up the good work.

    Regards,

    diggin the show.
qotd- i have been drinking lots of stuff. new stuff all the time. 2 wines that i picked up on that i liked and bought a few bottles of are Domaine Gonon from the rhone. they make a st joseph and a bottle called les iles feray. the iles is rockin my world. at 13 bucks it is what i like. it is like a lean horse. lots of stable, bright fruit and lean… kinda mean too. not for everyone. the other is an italian white from fasoli gino from the veneto. it is a 2000 bianco veronese…. garganega. love it! at 15 bucks… so good. i shared with some friends over lobsters in the cape…….damn it was good

The question was, what are you drinking today. I have been drinking “Yellow Tail Shiraz or Merlot. I know I need to expand my palette, but this is what I can afford. I will drink the best withing my price range.

    Great show!

Finally a wine that I’ve had before you did a show on it, Rosenblum Petite Sirah. A local wine store owner recommended it. Might just have to take a few more of his recommendations.

QOTD: Anything and everything within my price range, $10-$30.

Gary V., I have the first-generation wristband. Last year I sent you a pic of me wearing it in my wine cellar, but it wasn’t included in the New Year’s photo montage. Twenty dogs, but not me! Oh well; I hope you didn’t find me less photogenic than a beagle.

As for Petite Sirahs, I really like the ‘05 Bogle, which you carry. I think it’s a good value at $9. Have you had it?

I have been dabbling with South African blends for something completely different. Nice show. A short time ago I tried my first petite sirah; a 1998 Chiarello Roux Old Vine which was really nice but quite a bit more expensive than those of today’s show. I am excited to give the Lot 205 and Rosenblum a try. I love a great QPR especially when the P is undervalued.

Great show, I think petite syrah is a great alternative to the ubiquitous cabs and merlots out there. QOTD: burgundy, particularly vosne.
