QOTD: I was trying to give gamay another chance so I tried a Morgon at about £10, it was thin and had that Beaujolais Nouveau fake taste. Luckily I then tried the Foillard 3.14 (with pi symbol) Morgon which was like red burgundy but with that characteristic Gamay taste, excellent.

0-3 on Favre wines? awwww, Typical Brett :) It gave me great pleasure to watch him crash and burn this season. Ive never liked the guy. His prima donna attitude the last few years set in stone my belief that he’s a jerk. Time to retire!!!! QOTD: Cant remember the name of it ( of course :| ) but a German bubbly a friend gave us for Christmas. Had a bitterness to it and not much else. Yawnsville.

You should’ve found a wine that was $254 to represent what his consecutive games played streak will reach when he first suits up for the JETS! Hopefully that one would’ve fared a little better!

QOTD: 2005 Hartford Court Pinot Noir Land’s Edge Vineyards – it was on WE’s top 100 list so I bought three bottles and the first one was just totally flat and uninteresting. Hopefully the next two are better!

Line of the Day: “I can put the bucket on my face. I love this!”

QOTD update……, I agree with Nik, the 2003 Escudo Rojo was a disappointment.

A bit of a MEH show for me, but then again I don’t do NFL, even for the Jets!

QOTD – Not really had any complete disappointments for a while, maybe the most recent was my first Aussie Sparkling Shiraz, just didn’t do it for me.

I apologise in advance for the next section, but JUDEMURPHY -what Fascist State are you trying to set up? Foie Gras may be a controversial subject, but IT’S A MATTER OF PERSONAL CHOICE! Calling someone out the way you just did is arrogant and ignorant for something that is neither illegal nor, in the grand scheme of things, immoral – not considering the amount of people dying around the world.

Gary. You’re a F***ing D*** for eating foie gras. That’s my biggest disappointment. Overall.
The coolest people always turn out to do stupid things like that.
Get your facts straight. It’s a product of evil. It’s really really not cool.
Come on, man- you seem like such a good guy apart from that!

Not a big fan of the Brett, although his talent is very real.
QOTD – I purchased a Minervois while travleing and it cost ~$30 and it was a very dull effort – I think you say “meh”.

Nice, but weird, theme show, Gary. But let’s think about Brett Favre for a little bit. Let’s see, the last time you had a 40+ year old QB it was Vinny I think. Hmmm. OK, Brett will make the Jets a better team, but he won’t make them a good team. And he’s older than you, dude.

QOTD: I had my first Sancerre: Lucien Crochet! My wife and I adored it!

    Like the new spitter!

QOTD: A bit generic, but I had a cab recently that had ZERO flavor…it was so bad I forgot where it was from.

The Foppiano petit syrah was supposed to be the best but I thought it was dull.Spicy and flat for the reputation it has I would have rated it 70 points.A Few wines I am impressed with are Stratten Lummis Cab and Ghost Block

QOTD: A couple of ‘value’ wines from the Baron Philippe de Rothschild brand – the ‘Escudo Rojo’ was recommended by the usually excellent Matt Skinner books, but this was absolutely awful, and the basic French chardonnay is equally poor.

This guy needs to be eliminated. What an embarrassment to the Jets, the tri-state area, and males everywhere!

Interesting show once again! I was really hoping the Green and Red zinfandel would bring a little thunder since I am such a nasty zinner…..

QOTD – the last wine that really disappointed me (us) was the 2003 Stags Leap Wine Cellars SLV Merlot, a special wine club offering. It was somewhat thin, bitter, and in a blind tasting, regardless of the price point, I’ll bet way more people would prefer a Columbia Crest Grand Estates merlot for $11 than this wine (I think it was about $50). Before that, the wine that disappointed me the most was a 2000 Stags Leap Wine Cellars Fay Vineyards Cab. Yup… another SLWC wine. Come to think of it, we had about 6 Stags Leap wines in a row from the cellar that rarely rose above average. We actually moved a bunch of them into our “daily drinkers” rack because it was obvious that they were going nowhere fast. And at $40 to $100 a pop, that caused a major disturbance in my dome. I will say, however, that at our wedding reception a few weeks back, we used a 1998 SLWC SLV cab for our toast, and it completely rocked!!! I think Stags Leap went through a funk for several years. Hopefully their new owners, Chateau Ste. Michelle Wine Estates and the Antinori’s will get them back on track. Cheers!

QOTD: Yamhill Valley Pinot Blanc. It had noxious fumes that had to blow off first and after an hour or so it almost smelled like it had gone bad. One taste and it was clear it was just awful wine. I don’t plan on finding out whether it was just my bottle or if that’s just what they call wine.

    QOTD: Big House Red.

QOTD: 2006 Domaine Diochon Moulin-à-Vent Vieilles Vignes, I expected more but actually liked the 2007 Domaine Dupeuble Pere et Fils Beaujolais a lot more.

Also, the 2004 Sella & Mosca Cannonau di Sardegna Riserva. Popped and poured at a restaurant and drank it out of tiny glasses. Ick! It needed at least two hours decanting for all of the funk to blow off, too bad the restaurant said they had broken all of their decanters. They gave us better glasses when we ordered the 2000 Parusso Langhe Bricco Rovella, which gave us some time to let the Grenache breathe a little.

QOTD: the FADO red. I didnt know what it wanted to do. the fizzyness threw me off, and it was just awkward. was expecting something alittle more fruity and spanish wine esk i guess.

QOTD: Casanova di Neri 2006 rosso di montalcino! I never expected it but the wine was thin and tart. Maybe I just found it in a dumb period.

QOTD : LaTaste Bordeaux Merlot – synthetic cork stank – wine was undrinkable

    Gary,

I finally stopped lurking, your QOTD got me. The 2006 Campus Oaks Old Vine Zinfandel. Like everyone, I enjoy finding a good wine for a good value and the 05 was very good for under $15.00. The 06 tastes too much like sugary strawberry candy, but in a bad way. I hope they’ll get the flavor back for next year’s release. Other than that, I don’t think I’ve ever been disappointed with a good wine.

    Keep up the great work!

    Gary
