Too bad those of us in Stupid-shipping-laws-achussts can’t get your house label. QOTD – Opened some nice Bordx this past weekend – the highlight being Ch. Bonalgue – oh my!

Nice to see Bobby and Brandon (I get enough e-mails from Brandon that I think I’m related to him). :-)

QOTD: We didn’t do too much for a change on the long weekend. Went to the Tribe game on Saturday (no wine), went to dinner on Sunday with my sister to Bravo! (chain Italian restaurant) and had a 2006 bottle of a Montepulciano d’Abruzzo which was actually pretty good with the Italian fare. Monday we went to see “Bottle Shock” and for dinner opened a bottle of 2005 Valderiz red that was pretty darn good with the Mexican BBQ ribs that we made.

    the devil's in the details

Hey you wine buffs great show so upbeat and very interesting … Ive been a fan of red wines for years now and always side stepped white wines simple because they seemed to effect my stomach like as in acid stomach so my style was to get over this girlie kinda mind-set so I set about beating the obvious by treating my wine habit like a true boozer

I started to buy white wines chardonnay and sauvignon blanc and the likes but I also had a bottle of white dessert wine and then ad a little to the chardonnay and the others slowly adding less once I got the taste and my stomach was used to the cold tangy flavorer’s now I can drink red and white straight with no sider effects except for the rewards wine gives all who understand the true value classy wines bring to the table of good taste … thanks for sharing your knowledge lads …

Grrrrreat show be back soon hic hic

All my best to you and your wine tastings

QOTD: Had a great holiday weekend tasting Santa Rita Hills, Santa Ynez, and Santa Maria wines. Decided to stop being a lurker to give a shout-out to La Vie vineyards, had some excellent Pinot Noirs. Would love to see a Lompoc “wine ghetto” battle royal (perhaps Sea Smoke, Fiddlehead, La Vie?) to show off what cooperative/innovative winemaking can do.

Craziest(good) taste of the weekend: Kenneth Volk Cabernet Pfeffer.

GREAT show. Was fun to hear stories, and they explain even more why I dig Gary.

QOTD: We spent our weekend in The Yakima Valley (WA State) celebrating our Grandfather’s 99th birthday – amazing man, still works out in his Cherry, Pear/ Apple orchard every day! We Drank all WA state wines…99 Eaton Hill Cab Sav (which seriously rocked), 2002 Eaton Hill Gewürztraminer Late Harvest, Cougar Crest 2006 Viognier, 2004 Canoe Ridge Cab Sav, 06 Latah Creek winemaker’s Reserve Red Petite Verdot, Latah Creek Huckleberry D’Latah (non vintage wine mixing Huckleberries with their excellent riesling, yum!), 06 Silver Lake Roza Riesling, 04 Silver Lake Reserve Merlot, and the 04 Silver Lake Syrah, and the Horizon’s Edge Chocolate Port. Was a hell of a party, but it’s not everyday someone in your family turns 99!

What a great show. You can tell the genuine friendship and care you all have for each other.

QOTD – Finishing some sauvignon blancs from New Zealand and California.

Spent the weekend in Madison, Ohio on the lake, which gave me an opportunity to try a few Ohio wines. I tasted the “dry” flight (4 reds and 4 whites) at Ferrante Winery and was totally disappointed, as I have been with every Pennsylvania red I’ve tasted so far. Blah! Also tried a Chambourcin at Lakehouse Winery … very sour. This is wine?

However, I was most interested in visiting Laurello because of their claim to be making a “Super Tuscan” (in Ohio? yea, right). I ended up buying 6 bottles, 4 of them their Super Tuscan blends. I’m finishing up my Labor Day with a pleasing glass of their Rodavi (50% Merlot, 33% Sangiovese, 17% Cabernet Sauvignon). I understand they get their Sangiovese and Merlot grapes from California. Really very nice!!

This made me miss my old college friends that are scattered around the globe.

QOTD: Pretty much a wine free weekend. I did enjoy a house Rosato at an Italian restaurant Friday night and it was deeeeeeeeeelish!

I don’t even know what “labor day” is!
We don’t have that in Ireland.
I did drink a rather nice Bordeaux called Chat. Pays La Tour, though, and had an absolutely awful, cheap Australian shiraz, which for some very odd reason I thoroughly enjoyed anyway!

We had a Chaucer Raspberry dessert wine, which was entirely delicious, a German Riesling, which I didn’t like because it tasted like beer, too grainy.
