If we can drink Oklahoma wines, we certainly can drink Egyptian wines.
Never drank an Egyptian wine myself.

QOTD: My favorite T-shirt is black, has an outline of a cat in white, and says: Veni-Vidi-Nappi; I came-I saw-I napped.

    Could it be Igor?

Since you already were told that kasha was buckwheat (how could you not know that?!), I’ll add that it is also used to make Japanese soba noodles. Usually finely ground and mixed with some wheat flour as a binder. Served in soup, or sauced lightly…no not tomatoes.
If Egyptians drank more wine, maybe they would demand better wine. Can’t beleive that the production costs come close to the prices charged. Shows how wine prices just get “made up” if the market will pay it. Or maybe not.
Also, cross the Suez canal, and you get many good wines, many are even kosher.

QOTD – Nope. I’m not even sure I’ve had any wines from anywhere other than than North/Central America.

Favorite T-Shirt – American Eagle made a T-shirt a few years ago that says “Nice Assets”. I have my BS in Accounting and work for a CPA firm, just graduated last May. I wore this shirt to almost every accounting test I had in college. It was my lucky accounting shirt.

GV – Hey! Thanks to you and your staff for the schwag! QOTD – I’ve not had an Egyptian wine. Also – my favorite shirt is from a bar in Washington Island, WI (The Sailor’s Pub). The smart people of Wash. Is. convinced authorities during Prohibition that Bitters was integral to their health and it stayed legal. Now-a-days – most pubs here serve bitters and often give out T-shirts if you quaff your fair share.

Mama’s Fishhouse is the most scenic restaurant on Maui with food and wine to match and the t-shirt is a must have. Tried the Koehler Reserve Chard and it was outstanding, just as you said, very much like Ramey with 10% less of everything, not such a bad thing. King Tut would have been a welcome prop. Great wines and show.

I can’t believe that I leave comments on EVERY episode and this one time, because I didn’t get a chance to watch until late that night, I lose my opportunity for SCHWAG!!! WTF Gary!

Just kidding, I’ll get over it, just wanted to finally rock a wristband!!!

Great show, never really thought too much about Egypt and wine from that region, but I’ll have to scope it out a bit more.

I’ve never even seen an Egyptian wine, but it’s always fun to try new things. I just had some Chokecherry Wine in North Dakota this weekend and tried Mogan David for the first time. It’s fun to taste those cheep wines once in a while too :) Thanks for all you do Gary!

Went to Egypt in March 07. Worst wines of my life. Hands down. Not a single one was drinkable (out of a sample size of roughly 20). Still a good trip, but be sure to BYO.

Thanks for the schwag Gary, keep on rockin!

Interesting show… Never had Egyptian wine, though I’d be really interested in trying. I have had a lot of Turkish wine, and some of it seems very basic as well, though their whites are very reminiscent of muscadet and some other loire whites. Love them in the summer for sure, and definitely with oysters.

Fav tshirt is the Updog shirt… no “in action” pic, but:

QOTD: I can’t find my favorite shirt anymore. I got it at a con a long time ago, and have never been able to find it since. I recently wore it to Dragon*Con and a friend of mine got a picture of it here. http://www.flickr.com/photos/stevesaylor/2825495777/

It’s an obscure reference to and organization in an anime called Evangelion called NERV.

    Thank you for the schwag.

500,000 gallons, that’s only 200,000 cases of wine, not much for a whole country (Gallo with all its brands makes 62 million cases as a comparison). Now granted they are 90% Muslism (at least according to the CIA Factbook website) leaving about 8 millions coptic christians (which presumably drink some wine). That is about 0.02 liters/capita (for the christian population), way below the US consumption (and we only have 20 millions folks drinking on a regular basis, ie more than once a month).

QOTD: I wear the tee shirt I get from work. They are great and the price is right (Riesling Rules tee shirt)

Thanks for the schwag, Gary. Side Q: Pretty sure I’ve never had an Egyptian wine.

QOTD: Favorite tee is a goof on the Life is Good series. There’s a little sign that says OUT OF WINE and underneath it, Life is Crap. Will send photo later. I wear it so often, it’s presently in the dirty laundry.

Never had Egyptian wine. T-shirt? All mine these days are plain, although I do have a Redsand shirt that is now sleeveless and relegated to lawn-mowing and exercising.

No, I have never had an Egyptian wine. But, coincidentially, in the play by Bernard Shaw, “Caesar and Cleopatra”, which I saw last night (which my boyfriend is in ;) ) there is a scene in which they are trying to decide which wine to drink at dinner, Greek or Roman. (Yes, it takes place in Egypt…. was wine not being made there at the time?!) In the scene, Caesar would rather drink barley water, but the young and impetuous Cleopatra insists they enjoy extravagancies and luxuries worthy of their majesty. Anyway, very cool episode. I haven’t been able to watch for a few weeks, and now I am revived!
QOTD: My favorite tee wasn’t on PleaseDressMe, but I like this one:

QOTD: “Support wild life; Throw a Party” by A&F, I wear it always.

I have not experienced Egyptian wine, but I have had several Jordanian wines. The “popular” blend is cab sauv + pinot. Weird, no? But anyways, good fruit + flinty/metallic vino. Worth having a few bottles for the price. Love the winemakers in the Mideast. Keep it up gents, and please support them consumers.

I dig all of the Russian culinary references you use: from red radishes to baked apples to kasha. It’s fascinating how wine palettes can be expanded by experiencing foreign cuisine. We immigrants have a leg up on the average Joe :D
Much respect from one little Russian boy to another.

1st QOTD: Seems like the Egyptian wine industry’s gonna have to work real hard in the 11 short months left before I can legally try their wine.
2nd QOTD: I apologize in advance for this Threadless t-shirt photo:

Side question: I’ve never had Egyptian wine but I’ve had Thai wine. A local gourmet store sold white and red Thai wines and although I didn’t buy any bottles, I tasted them on site and my first impression was that they were not that bad, too tanic and slow for my taste but if someone gave me one as a gift I would drink the red one chilled with enchiladas no problem, and at $20.usd I thought they were a bit on the expensive side as well.

Shirt, I meant shirt. In my defense, it’s 02.19 in the morning. If you could see me, you would be looking at a face gone rouge.
