Grizzly nails? What the heck are grizzly nails? ;-)
I look forward to seeing the 48 hour decanted wine tasting to see if you can erase that question mark.

QOTD: My favorite wine drinking partner is my lovely wife, Jane. My second favorite is any of my friends or family that enjoy drinking wine and are interested in learning more by tasting new things. Oh, yeah, I think you might make the list Gary if I actually ever got to drink wine with you.

I’ve had cheap wine that’s near undrinkable, but never anything that expensive. That would be a fun wine to try.

AWESOME! so happy not only an 05 burg show, but one on pommard. i have a few bottles of pommard in my cellar including 02 pousse ‘dor and an 05 potel les vignots. i opened a 2000 maillard aloxe corton last new years and it was goooood. it had plenty of structure and a good dose of smoke. i wish i had a few more.
QOTD _ my friend tots cause he gets it and always appreciates a good bottle and shares them too. also, just friends. i love to open a bottle from the year we met or things like that. they act as time capsules. also i love to drink with people who are just getting into it and are really discovering.

again, great show gary. way to start the week

    Hi Gary,

    Several comments here:

    1. I think we should trade the little ponies for the guy who was elastic; remember that toy? Real heavy and if you ripped it it had this funny liquid inside that smelled weird.
    2. Interesting on wine #2, I will give it a try and buy a couple of bottles.
    3. I do have the old school bug for Burgundian wine, and wish you did more shows on it if only to help us steer clear of the $100 busts…
    4. QOTD: my sons would be the answer, but they are only 12 and 10 so can’t wait for them to turn 18!! (our local legal age) Currently: my wife and my dad.
    5. How can anybody, really, hate Billy Joel? what is this world coming to…

FINAL THOUGHT: I love it when you drop the “whether they like it or not” bit from your finale… it is too defensive and frankly you don’t need to explain yourself to anyone.

    Nice show.
I still got that wristband :-)
QOTD: all time fave was my late friend Bruce Liebowitz who died of cancer a couple of years ago – he took me around Sonama and Napa in 97.
Now, its with my friends Jean-Paul, Stelios and Christos.
Best “friends” to drink with though is my wife and brother

Great show Gary… I have had a lot of similar experiences with 05 Burgundy, some just not being able to open up yet. QOTD- I have a friend back home in Richmond VA who I love to taste and drink with. He is the sommelier at my restaurant back home and I moved out to be the somm at our location in Chicago. It’s really interesting and entertaining to compare thoughts on wine

Hey, FINALLY a true 2005 red burgundy episode. Took you long enough! I’ve been playing heavily in 2005 Burgundy and finding, as you did today, that many of them are just too locked down… in a “dumb phase,” as is talked about. You can tell there’s huge structure there, but with this vintage especially, some of these wines are going to truly need 15 years to be drinkable… you mentioned this is the problem with Burgundy, because you can drop $100 bones and get utter crap.. but there’s a huge difference here between utter crap and a wine that’s closed down. I don’t think many people are dropping $100 on 2005 Red Burgundy and expecting to drink it tomorrow. These wines need time but they WILL come around. Sure, you can still spend $100 and get crap, but just because it’s shut down today that doesn’t make it crap. Glad you scored that one a question mark instead of judging it how it’s showing today; I’m surprised the middle one was even showing well at all even. I have roughly 60 bottles of 2005 Red Burgundy in the cellar, and I’m not planning on touching a single one for at least 5 years from now.

Wristband QOTD: The only one I DON’T have is the sniffy sniff one, because you only sent that to people who bought your book on father’s day or bought something else. I bought two books earlier, and you said you’d send the wristband to people who sent the email to book@winelirary or whatever, but I never got one anyway. :-(

QOTD: My friend Ken. One of the only friends who really gets it.

You brought it to Seth Petruzelli to the table… YES!!!!!

Can’t wait for the Croatian wines. You want to talk about MMA, Cro Cop wines! Although he’s been getting his ass kicked lately.

My favorite fellow wino is probably my sister who has a lot of similar tastes as me along with my girlfriend who really enjoys Pinot Noir and Vionger
