QOTD: I like Castano’s (Yecla, Spain) Hecula. It’s mostly Monastrell. Should be in the $12-13 range. Good “pop and pour” but can be held 2-4 yrs.

You know, the 06 PillarBox is not as bright and balanced.. the 05 was fresher tasting..

as to the best 13 dollar wine.. it is Glatzer Gruner Veltliner.. awesome..

I’ve had numerous bottles of the Pillar Box Red, Each bottle is different. Sometimes average-sometimes outstanding.

QOTD: Dr Loosen’s Dr L is a great entry level riesling that everyone knows and that I keep coming back to, amazing QPR at only £6.50 in Sainsburys. Had a 2001 Lealtanza Rioja Crianza recently for £9 from Averys (probably retails for around $13 in the states, I don’t know) that was delicious, not too heavy, tons of sour cherries, a little wood smoke, coffee, earth and smoooooooth. Drank it with a bunch of people, some of whom didn’t like it so much. I tend to avoid numerical ratings, but I guess it’s an 89+ for me, just not quite interesting enough to hit that 90.

    Edmeades Zinfandel Mendicino County 2006

    Fontanafredda Barbera Piemonte “Briccotondo” 2006

Patrick Lesec Bouquet Cotes Du Rhone 2005

And the last one, but this is $14, but I scored it a 92

Chat.st Michelle Indian Wells Riesling 2006 at $11 is really very good- a combination of luscious green apples, cream and peaches. The label says cantelope but I.m not getting it. Nevertheless, really not just very good.

QOTD: a friend brought over a $10 bottle of wine recently, and I was pleasantly surprised. 2001 Bodegas Saenz de Santamaria Rioja Rondan Crianza, http://www.cellartracker.com/wine.asp?iWine=230300

Fun episode, GaryV, and quite timely for me. One of my friends is having a $15-and-under wine party soon, as a way to find good wines that fit her budget. I’m looking forward to it!

Oak monster was “flaming” in more ways than one.

Good show in an attempt for good “house” wines. I like it.

QOTD: I’m guessing here since mine was cut short but I’ll go with the Steenbur SB from SA you reviewed last week. Also, 5 is my fav number. Brooks Robinson

Thank you for bringing value, though most wines today didn’t bring ‘the thunder’.

    Good stuff!

What a great episode for Mott– face time and the big zoom. Way to go, Mott!!

QOTD: 2007 Leonard Kreusch Spatlese Riesling. 9 bucks and some change at my local shop. This was my first German Riesling so I don’t have a comparison, but I really liked it. I have a newbie palate, but I really enjoyed the flavor– like the syrup from canned peaches. I’ve been craving it since.
