Sound of Silence – my dad really liked that song. Malbec’s have been hit or miss for me, but tend to bring a little more value for the price than Napa cabs

Malbec Rocks, nice show, but dont think I will be running out to try any 10 dollar malbecs.

QOTD: I think of weak 70’s music, not my type of folk

Good Luck with the Supertasting! Sad that I couldn’t make it, but I did see Charles Smith’s favorite band, last night, the former members of Dead Moon, now called Pierced /Arrows.

In keeping w/ the sports talk requirements on a wine web site, may I say “YEA, GO BROWNS!!!”?
Ten million acres of Cahors to make 30 million bottles? Ten million, Gary? Really? That’s, ahem, 3 bottles per acre (times ten million). That’s an area 2 and a half times all the corn acreage in Ohio. Just a minor point. Otherwise, the various continental styles of Malbec, as other varietals, ranges from the true and honest, firm, dryish style of real wine made in Cahors, to the fruit driven, yet flabby if poorly executed, as practiced in America by agri-industrial practitioners. There IS good Malbec made in America, but I wouldn’t bother thinking you’ll find any for under $10, or even a little more. I would definately look for a known and respected producer/winery, and skip the wines w/ the kitschy/cutesy marketed names. Argentina, with high, thin air, and more old world influence in farming practices, combined with more modern production methods produces the best of both worlds.

I am a HUGE Malbec fan…from Septima…to NIcolas Catena Zapata(and the Susana Balbo’s and Luigi Basco’s in between)….will try to find a Malbec from Cahor(hopefully this one) to try…

Great malbec show and the last two wines appear to be excellent QPRs as well.

QOTD: Simon & Garfunkel? Great harmonies, brilliant song writing. Classic. “I’d rather be a hammer than a nail” :-)

BTW, Browns kicked Giants butt – what happened Mott?

Great episode on the malbecs. I’ve only had one cahors, and to be honest, they have slipped my mind for quite a while. Time to try some more!!!!!

Great show Gary! One of my good buddies lives in Maryland, but used to live here in New Mexico…he wants to move back, and plant a small vineyard in a specific place, about 5000 feet of malbec, make wine, love and harmony with it.

QOTD: I think of “The Graduate” specifically that little “eep” sound that Hoffman makes.

Good to see some malbecs! We had a Reininger Walla Walla Valley malbec last weekend, and it rocked. Gotta get a bottle of the Gaudou – that sounds right up my alley.

QOTD – Simon and Garfunkel? Bad hair and several nauseating songs, rather self-important and reaching for the grandiose…. not a fan, and I love a lot of the 60’s stuff. However, I really like a lot of Paul Simon’s later stuff. We have worn out his Concert In Central Park cd’s – love the Afro influences, the percussion, and the spirit of those discs.

Ballads with harmonies that give you chills with their poetic beauty. They are of course Icons from my generation….

The Black wines of Cahors should make a comeback after this episode. I have been bombarded with recommendations lately for 2006 Trumpeter Malbec from Mendoza by Rutini wines. I succumbed to curiousity and tried it and found it a little green and diluted for a Malbec. This bottle came in at $10 here in DC. I also picked up their Malbec/Syrah blend which is in a Burgundy/Cotes du Rhone shaped bottle for the same price and WOW! What a difference. I heartily recommend this blend and thanks to Kens wine review for mentioning it. Vintages in the Southern hemisphere are released first so the 2007’s share the shelves already. I prefer the 2006’s in the $10-$15 range but they are selling quickly and being replaced by the ’07’s. “Trust your palate.”

Eli and the Giants made as many miscues as my Sons of Washington did and as misery loves company isn’t it too bad about Romo’s pinky? I must say Chad is playing well down in Miami. Brett will keep the Jets in the hunt as your division is as unpredictable now as ours.

QOTD: I think of soft melodic songs, kinda sad but they make you feel good none the less. I also think of a cat I used to have named Garfunkle. That was his name at the shelter and we decided to keep it. Seemed to fit him.
