Yet another good and informative show. My mouth is literally watering for a Pomerol and a RDD right now…..which leads into the QOTD: Because of how it makes me feel. I get excited over wine plain and simple.

Nice job, JoeG! Great shirt, too.
I think if you and I could both co-host on the same episode, it would be such a mojorific show: A perfect balance of actual knowledge and pure camerahogette. :)
    See you Friday!!!!

QOTD- I drink wine for myself. I know that sounds selfish, and it is ironic in a way because I share and literally give away bottles like I was born with them, but I drink it for myself. One of the few totally selfish things I do, and it feels so good (with apologies to Paramore). Cheers!

    Great Show!!!

    Badass guest.

QOTD: Probably one of the better questions asked. Reason I’m into wine is due to how cool it is…haha. Its freakin’ fermented grape juice yet there is so much more to it. And in the end…it just tastes really great.

Just finshed a wine class on Spain. Riber del Duero was just awarded DOCa status in 2008. And yes the weather was wild- too wet during the summer and frost at harvest so most if not all of the vintage was lost.

if the guest host, joe, is a fan, i think the next fan on the show should know nothing about wine – like me;)

QOTD: discovering the mystery of what it will taste like

QOTD: I drink wine for its elegence, and how much you can learn about a place when you taste what can be produced from it (whether its wine or food). As Galileo puts it well, “wine is sunlight held together by water”.

    Great episode!

Joe was a great guest. Very knowledgable. Not sure about his ratings though, I don’t see such a gaping difference between 92 and 93. In fact, I only rate wines on even numbers, understanding that the rating has a + or – 1 margin. Also, I would’nt rate a wine below 50. So actually I use a 25 point scale. That is how many levels of significant difference my palate can detect in wine.
QOTD: The answer must have the complexity of fine wine. Wine is an experience and a lifestyle, not just a beverage. I see wine as a bit of elegance in an otherwise often mundane world. The ancient knowledge of the quality of this drink becomes apparent to anyone who gets seriously into wine. There is such variety amoung wines, tasting and evaluting wines is alot of fun. I could go on, but I’d rather just have another glass! Cheers

    Great Show!!!

QOTD- I enjoy wine because it is a new art to learn and appreciate. Food is just food unless it is created and enjoyed. That is what it is all about wine kicks up the experience and enjoyment. Also why not expand your knowledge and pal at the same time.

I drink wine because it’s such a simple way of having a really enjoyable and thought provoking experience!
It’s like staring up into the clouds to see what you can see in them.

Great Show, Joe knows his wine. I agree with him about wines from
    from Ribera Del Duero.
QOTD: Every bottle is a new journey.

Good show … cool wines (upper class)… wine-knowledable guest (good to see)

Glad Gary let him speak to us about the different wines.

Why the dis on Ohio? Where’d that come from. It seemed to come from the clear blue.

QTD – I enjoy wine as a meal enhancer – it completes the meal. I especially enjoy those special (epipany moments) times when a wine is exceptional and makes the whole evening memorable.

LISA: “Do you have any fruit?”
HOMER (holding up a jelly donut): “This one’s got purple in it. Purple’s a fruit. Mmmmmh….purrrrple.”

QOTD: Because it never tastes the same twice.

Good strong show! Guest was Sundance Kid next to Butch (you). ha.

    Ya bustin on Ohio? ghez.

    Come to Raleigh!

QOTD: why? Taste. I enjoy seeking the nose and whirl and finding parts of my mouth that experiences pleasure from a wine. Tasting wines is like dating women, each are different, yet each has unique qualities that can not be found elsewhere. I will never find a perfect woman (nor one find perfection in me), nor a perfect bottle of wine. Yet I find joy and pleasure in a few. That’s why I keep seeking out new wines. It is not the destination, but the journey of wine tasting that is wonderful.

    Ghez, I should copyright THAT!

Great guest. Joe was knowledgeable, concise, honest, and held his own with you, GV.

QOTD: Wine makes everything just a little brighter. Food tastes better, friends laugh more, family comes together, and it makes me a better dancer. My wife cooks, I pair the wines and cocktails. It’s what we do as a family to entertain our friends and family. And it satisfies my collecting itch, and if the market falls out, I can just drink it.

    QOTD: Quote from Robert Parker:
“I can taste perfectly in a crowded room. It’s like tunnel vision, the flavors leap out at me in 3 dimensions.”
Have I experienced that yet? not quite. I came pretty close with a La mouline. I want to be able to taste and understand the wine. Not just say whether I like it or dislike it. I want to taste everything in the wine, and understand why every taste is there.

Gary, informative show. Joe Knows wine.
QotD: I started drinking wine as a business social element and became very interested in the complexity of flavors and aromas. I took it seriously and earn an Advanced Cert in Wine and Spirits from WSET. Joe nailed it, it takes you places. For me a rurual kid I have first hand experience to compare to the Barnyard aroma in Burgundy and the smell freshly mowed hay feild in a NZ Sauv. Blanc. Have to tell you while attending WSET training I had a top Barolo during an evening class that kept me awake until 2 am one night thinking about the great flavors and that classic Tar in fininsh. Crazy, but it is time travel, truely a journey. GV thanks for all you do to spread the word!. Proud to say I have been here from the very begining and the very first show.

    Excellent show and guest.

QOTD – for me it is the learning curve that is so steep right now and the mastery of the subject.

  21. October 14, 2008

    manonthemoon

Great show, wish I could of made the open house.

QOTD: Too many reasons to pick just one, but mainly because it is something that mirrors life.

  22. October 14, 2008

    sam

Wow, I wish I was there…Good show, wine-smart guest. Good wines.

QOTD: I drink wines ’cause I love it. However, there is so much to each experience beyond the sensorial. Each wine has a story, a history. It makes me travel. Drinking Bordeaux or any other region, takes me there. Kinda like reading about it, but more. It’s like tasting it. Now, if I could only see it. But yeah, wine enhances the experience of a geographical area, almost like living there. So in short, wine is a voyage of discovery for the soul.

    Great guest, BTW.

Great show ! Cool guest ! Best QOTD in WLTV History !

QOTD: that s a very good question. Wine is something that I enjoy on so many levels. The colour, the smell, the taste and all the sensations and memories that it detonates. Every wine is different and each year brings something new.

It s perfect to have with friends, on it s own or with food and the fact that it is made just about everywhere in the world in different styles is just fascinating.

In short: I drink it coz I love it !

Great job Joe! Way to break down the regions. I think that’s the most airtime a guest has ever been given…in terms of actually participating in a discussion. Sometimes Gary can’t help taking over. NTTAWTT
